And in the meantime, because water was diverted from agriculture all the farmers are drilling wells. Now the whole Central Valley is is dropping in elevation because of all the wells pulling so much water. There has to be a compromise or they are all done for...

No, I was thinking of specifically what I wrote: Communist revolutions. The French revolution was not Communist, though certainly it did seem to do the trick of killing off the existing elite, too. Various countries have undergone successful Commie revs. Coming to mind are: Russia China Cambodia In each instance, the tactic worked brilliantly: existing ruling class slaughtered. You can just follow the trail of rotted ruler bodies. Proof, meet pudding. Pudding, proof. Communism works.

In seriousness, no it doesn't. Not everyone in Russia died when Communism took over. What did happen? All of the previous elite were killed first. They all died. Well, some escaped to New York. But it was a bloodbath. And then, yeah, things went on from there over the decades. Perhaps we have misunderstood communism and thus missed its potential as a useful tool. Everywhere communism has tried, it has worked brilliantly. It has resulted in the deposement and wholesale slaughter of the country's previous ruling elite. That is the purpose of communism. That is why God gave it to us, as a tool. Communism is not an economic system, it is a tactic. As an economic system, it would be retarded and obviously unworkable. But as a tactic of "how can we get rid of all these horrible disgustoids ruling over us?" it seems to work almost miraculously well. It's never failed. Now the Russian czars and oligarchs were not that bad, it's quite a shame they were slaughtered, and those rulers who replaced them were a decided step down in quality. But our rulers today are an unrelentingly malicious, unmitigated horror of freaks with no virtue, no intelligence, no taste, and no excuse to be allowed to continue living. Whatever rulers replaced them couldn't possibly be worse. If whipping the people up into a communist revolution would be an effective way of exterminating our rulers, it certainly deserves some consideration.

Look, I agree with you 100%. No part. However, what part allows them to tax YouTube? What part allows them to tell me whom to hire, fire, what to charge, how to build my plant, how to build my own private house for that matter? Oh, hmm, I'm having a hard time finding those parts, too. Maybe if I squint? I am all for anarchocapitalism where private businesses do whatever the heck they want, screw society and screw consequences. But howscomesees our Blessed and Holy Opinion Leaders are all for that too.... only on one issue: the ability of private companies to completely negate and destroy free speech? Does that make you think? 'Cause that makes me think. What is the spirit of the 1st Amendment? Isn't it that we, as free men and Americans, are able to discourse with each other freely, spread and evangelize our ideas, learn new ideas, argue with each other, and through all this come a little closer to the truth and thus be able to make better choices as to how to run our society? That is the spirit of it. And so I ask you: what if all the public squares were privately owned, and none of them allowed you to speak non-lying non-propaganda on them?

most of our supporters were totally fucking nuts So I'm nuts for supporting ron Paul? No you are nuts for supporting communist Bernie sanders. If you think that selfishness and cruelty are fantastic personal traits, you might be a libertarian. This is a leftist talking point. There are a lot of libertarians in the Tea Party, but there are also a lot of repugnant, religious nuts and intolerant racists. “Birthers” found a comfy home among 9-11 conspiracy people and other crackpots.

I see relatively few people being organically super-excited about any of those issues. Drug legalization would have the biggest fan base, but it has already largely happened. Now "I will steal money from billlionaires and multinational corporations and give it to you" is a stance that will a get lot more support from broke millennials.

Why call the general condition of virtually all humanity "insane"? People have always been gullible, as far as I can tell. What is insane is the idea of letting the peasants all vote. And then acting upon how that vote comes out. Of course, powerful people would never actually do that. In our system, and all other "democracies," they just pretend to care what that vote is, and actually just do whatever, and the voters have virtually no control at all. Which is also a pretty insane way to do it. Democracy theater is a cruel and evil way to run a country. And insulting to our intelligence!

They both have something in common: they are a wild element the establishment appears to not like. They both appeal to disenchanted/alienated people who feel like the current system is failing. And of course they're totally right: our system of government and society is totally dysfunctional. They both have different prescriptions, but the diagnosis is the same. Or at least same enough: "Horrible mess; huge change needed."

Just understand Discord is an entrapment app. Don't post anything incriminating, because there already have been major leaks ("and otherwise" -- i.e. probably outright sharing data) with life-wrecking consequences for those involved. Telegram or Signal would be two better choices. Signal is encrypted. Someday, of course, we'll have a normie-usable Urbit which will solve all of this.

Uhh, Ok.... I don't know who that is. Well, I'm glad to hear you're still such a genius and Number 1 Fanboy of Liberty, though I don't see how that could be true, if you're now for restricting people's freedom of motion. It's not a valid question. Under a free market there is enough bounty for everyone to go around. There is plenty of raw "space" in the USA for anyone who might want to come -- acres apon acres of empty land. And we could always build vertical, too. With the incredible prosperity that would be unleashed under anarchocapitalism, there's just no practical limit!

Say it isn't so! Well, Old Helmuth, here's the thing: maybe it didn't happen. See, you, like most political thinkers, are far too emotionally-driven for your own good. You cripple your ability to come to good conclusions if you let your emotions climb up out of the back seat and grab the steering wheel. So anyway, you got so triggered you have jumped to this massive, existential conclusion about me and how evil I am without actually having sufficient facts to back it up. Did I say I had abandoned my love of liberty? Did I myself say that I had become a brain-dead chest-thumper?

I prefer Liberty! How about that? Is that allowed? I prefer treating all men with dignity and according all men their equal, God-given rights. Not all this brain-dead, chest-thumping "Us vs. Them" mentality that you're promoting. What happened to you, New Helmuth? How could you forget about liberty and become a barbarian? I love liberty with all my heart. Indeed, it is my only political value. I don't think anything could happen to me that would change that, that would make me betray freedom, which I hold so dear. Nay, never! I am an Eternal Warrior for FREEDOM! You have betrayed the cause of liberty! You have betrayed me, your past self! Is this really the future I have to look forward to? How could this have happened?

The point is thus: You were using Western history to say that the norm was unrestricted migration, and that worked great (see: all the great stuff Western Civilization has done). I am saying: OK, there was less legislation regarding immigration, but that does not mean there was more immigration. Investigating, we find there was, in fact, a great, great deal less immigration going on. It just wasn't a problem. No issue. Half the population of olde Burgundy would never have considered mass-transplanting themselves to olde Cambria, as half of Syria seems to have plunked comfy in Europe.

So, continuing my charming conversation with myself, I will expand on this. In what sense was migration into the USA restricted in the 1800s? I will give you a hint: it was the same sense in which migration into Every Place Everywhere was restricted in the Every Century Ever. Namely: By Reality! In the past, it was extremely difficult to move your residence from one country to another. Abraham did not leave Ur lightly.

CNN)The Nevada caucus is wide open, with Bernie Sanders best positioned to take advantage of a fragmented field and the deep passion of his base. This is setting off rounds of hand-wringing as establishment types in the state and nationally (again) misjudge the mood of an angry electorate.Nevada is a critical benchmark, a diverse and blueing state that has often embraced unconventional politics and people. I've seen many sides of Nevada's political swings, as a delegate to the 2008 GOP state convention for presidential candidate Ron Paul, and eight years later when I caucused for Bernie Sanders in 2016. Edwin Lyngar It might sound odd to support a libertarian like Paul and then go for Bernie just a decade later, but it's much easier than it seems. True libertarians are supportive of LGBTQ rights, drug legalization, criminal justice reform, reproductive rights and a host of progressive social issues. The anti-government side of the libertarian wing is more problematic, and I spent much of my youth bleating about "freedom" while holding rabidly anti-government views, a common stance for naïve white kids. I didn't realize then that government is the only tool available to level the playing field, and by succumbing to the decades-long GOP crusade to vilify our own government and institutions, we end up powerless against business interests, polluters and hucksters determined to loot the country. I grew up in a working-class family in rural Nevada. My father made a living in mining, and we embraced the libertarian ethic of freedom, littering and an overinflated identity of real America. Despite hating the government, I joined the US Coast Guard, earning GI Bill money to pay for college, before making Reno my home. got another job where many anti-government zealots go, right back into government, at the state wildlife department. Government at every level enabled my middle-class existence, but I might have never seen the hypocrisy of government bashing — a central feature of Trumpism — had Nevada not been brought to its knees in the Great Recession.
