Lebanon's army said Tuesday it has arrested a suspected agent of Israel's spy agency Mossad over a failed bid to assassinate a Hamas official in the south of the country. In January 2018, Mohammed Hamdan, a security official with the Lebanese branch of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, was wounded in the leg in a car bomb blast in the southern Lebanese port city of Sidon. Lebanon and Hamas blamed Israel for the attack, and days after the January 14 blast Beirut authorities said they had arrested a man suspected of involvement in the car bombing. A statement at the time said he was "one of the main perpetrators of the crime, who confessed to being tasked by Israeli intelligence". On Tuesday the Lebanese army said in a statement a second male suspect "who carried out surveillance" before last year's bombing had also been arrested. The second suspect "has admitted to being a Mossad agent since 2014", it said, without specifying his nationality. Video of employees from a Chinese company specializing in beauty products who were forced by their bosses to crawl a long distance on a busy street went viral last week, sparking global outrage at the appalling display, which further happened to involve a nearly all female staff. The workers were literally forced to crawl on all fours after reportedly failing to reach their annual sales targets in the busy traffic of Tengzhou — a city in Shandong province in the country's east. The group was filmed being driven on by a male supervisor bearing a flag with the name of the firm, which reportedly disrupted traffic. Onlookers called the police, which soon arrived on the scene and warned the boss it must cease the punishment, as China has laws forbidding corporal punishment or acts of intentional public humiliation for workers; however, in recent years there's been an observable trend that companies are increasing such bizarre tactics, which has involved everything from whipping to forced worm eating to caning. A company in China forced its employees to crawl on the street as a punishment... because they couldn't meet year-end targets. pic.twitter.com/Pjo8SMEDrC — DW News (@dwnews) January 17, 2019 Examples chronicled by the Daily Mail include the following: Last month, workers at a Chinese hair salon were forced to slap themselves in the face 100 times, eat raw chillies and run 10km because their work performance hadn't reached their boss's expectation. In November, employees at a home improvement firm in Zunyi, Guizhou province, were whipped with belts, forced to drink urine and eat insects after failing to reach their targets. But few such shocking acts have been filmed (with some notable exceptions), which has led some skeptics online to suggest this week's forced crawling spectacle could have been a PR stunt. But if so it appears to have backfired as the company has reportedly been temporarily shut down.

In the America of today social justice warriors virtue signaling their tolerance for others have been repeatedly and quite often exposed for the bigots, sexists, and racists that they really are. Take, for example, the following video provided by Brandon Farley via his Twitter page, in which a food cart lady parked at the PDX Women’s March in the hyper-tolerant city of Portland this past weekend refused service to an individual requesting a meal reportedly based on the fact that he is a male. Tolerance at its finest. You won’t see this one in the mainstream media because it doesn’t fit the narrative. Misandrists – or man haters – are not vilified or abhorred like a teenage kid with a red hat smiling during the drumming of a traditional Native America tune, but rather, are defended and raised to 15-minute celebrity status among the very peers who call for death sentences against anyone who disagrees with their oft extreme and skewed personal belief systems. This, right here, is the hypocrisy of the modern day social justice warrior, and though we don’t see the complete incident because the preceding moments have not been made available, it sure does appear to be a case of refusal of service based on a bias on the part of the lady working the cart: Man Denied Food Cart Service During PDX Women's March🗣🧔🚲 pic.twitter.com/EQSWXRFRnD — Brandon Farley (@FarleyFilms) January 22, 2019 If we’re not mistaken, it is against Federal Law to discriminate against a person because of their race or sex.

Authorities in the northern Chinese province of Hebei have rolled out an app over WeChat which can tell people if they're walking near someone in debt, according to China Daily. The program, aptly named "map of deadbeat debtors," flashes a warning if someone in debt is within a 500-meter radius - showing their exact location according to a screenshot of the app. Whether the app reveals the debtors' names or photos is unknown, nor does China Daily mention how much money is owed or to whom - but according to paper the app allows people to "whistle-blow on debtors capable of paying their debts." "It's a part of our measures to enforce our rulings and create a socially credible environment," said a spokesman for the Higher People's Court of Hebei - which is behind the app. The "map of deadbeat debtors" is yet the latest in China's push towards a shame-based "social credit score" system which has already been deployed in several parts of the country. According to a November report, Beijing has an ambitious plan to control China's citizens through a system of social scoring that punishes behavior it does not approve. A special payment channel between Bern and Tehran to facilitate transactions for humanitarian-related trade is now ready to operate, but it does not yet contain any Iranian funds, the president of the Iran-Switzerland Joint Chamber of Commerce said Jan. 22. Switzerland is Iran's largest trading partner for pharmaceutical equipment, but Swiss companies will not be able to export to the Islamic republic if Iranian capital is unavailable to facilitate the trade. Since Tehran has almost no ability to generate cash by exporting to Switzerland, it will be required to transfer currencies into the Swiss banking system, which has proven to be problematic in the past due to U.S. sanctions on Iran and several banks' unwillingness to allow such transactions. The U.S. Treasury Department has previously allowed Iran to transfer cash during a 24-hour window, although it is not clear if the U.S. Treasury Department would permit such a transfer again. A prominent American priest has dissed the Washington March for Life as “repulsive and futile,” denouncing the pro-life event as “basically a gathering for many right-wing anti-abortion hardliners.” Franciscan friar Father Daniel Horan, a pro-LGBT priest and professor who will be speaking at the upcoming Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, took to Twitter this weekend to bash the March for Life and condemn without trial a group of white Catholic high school boys as “racists” for supposedly “taunting” a Native American man beating a drum. Father Horan was one of the many voices from the Catholic Left who joined the mainstream media lynching of students from Covington Catholic High School this weekend, rashly judging them as racists without bothering to ascertain what actually happened, simply because some of the boys were wearing MAGA hats. While the Jesuit-run America magazine claimed that a small group of Native American demonstrators had been “surrounded by a much larger band of teenagers” and that the boys had “heckled” and “mocked” elder Nathan Phillips, video footage told a different story. Videos show the Native Americans approaching and confronting the youths, and Mr. Phillips himself begins playing his drum just inches from the face of one of the boys, who simply smiles at him. One of the boys later wrote that they had been confused by the behavior of the Native Americans and realized only later that they had been set up for a “publicity stunt.” The perfect storm of white Catholic males wearing Make America Great Again hats and attending the March for Life to protest abortion was just too tempting for the mainstream media to pass up, even if the narrative was completely false. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, whoever “even tacitly, assumes as true, without sufficient foundation, the moral fault of a neighbor” is guilty of rash judgment, and whoever, “by remarks contrary to the truth, harms the reputation of others and gives occasion for false judgments concerning them” is guilty of calumny. Like many others on the left, Father Horan seemed convinced that the school boys must be racists because they were white and wore MAGA hats, and so the facts of the encounter were basically irrelevant. The March for Life is just “a GOP rally,” he tweeted, which “includes parade of GOP political-speakers and racist high-school students in MAGA hats taunting Native Americans.”

In a rambling column celebrating the controversial North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen said that the alliance's military force was needed for use against opponents of the “rules-based international order.” The bizarre screed comes as more and more people across the Western world and beyond turn against the globalist “world order” that von der Leyen says must be preserved, even by military force if need be. Among the most prominent critics has been the president of the United States of America, Donald Trump, who globalists claim is seeking to blow it all up. The opinion piece, "The World Still Needs NATO" published in the far-left New York Times, offers a great deal of insight into the role globalists hope NATO will play in the emerging “world order” they are seeking to foist on humanity. For instance, NATO is not just a military alliance, but “a political alliance as well,” von der Leyen admitted. But amid historic skepticism about the alliance expressed openly by President Trump and the millions of American voters who elected him, the pro-NATO propaganda smacks of desperation. In short, it seems NATO's future is uncertain at best. And globalists, apparently recognizing the threat to their dangerous agenda, have launched a full-blown public relations campaign to shore up support for the scheme. A “stronger NATO will serve the security interests of all members,” claimed whoever wrote the piece for von der Leyen, probably PR professionals. “Most of all, it will send a clear signal to those opposing the rules-based international order: We trans-Atlantic allies are ready and willing to defend our soil, our people and our freedom.” Did you catch that? A strong NATO is needed to protect against those who oppose the “rules-based international order.” Indeed, she argued that NATO was not just about bases and troops, but about defending the “world order,” a term often used by globalists to refer to the institutions of global governance foisted on humanity — primarily using deception — since the end of World War II. But the German official's message, while veiled, was still easy to discern. Consider, for instance, the examples offered by von der Leyen earlier on in her column about who opposes this “world order.” Among them: The government of Russia's Vladimir Putin, the mass-murdering Communist Chinese dictatorship, the “Islamic State” terror group that even globalists admit was armed and trained by NATO governments, and unspecified “authoritarian regimes developing nuclear weapons.” While the “challenges” are each different, “they have one thread in common: They emanate from actors who oppose the international order,” claimed von der Leyen, adding that these alleged foes seek “to undermine or even change the rules” of the “world order.” In other words, if you oppose the globalist vision of a “rules-based international order” controlled by the globalist elite — complete with the destruction of self-government, individual liberty, and Western Christian civilization — you are the enemy. And you are probably a Russian-backed Islamist terrorist authoritarian of some sort, because who else would oppose the glorious world order of technocracy, open borders, and Big Government? The remedy for such threats to the world order, the German official said, is the unleashing of military force — particularly the globalist-controlled NATO's military force, which according to its own charter has always been under the United Nations. Ironically, though, the reality is that the same globalists who control NATO literally created the very threats that von der Leyen and other globalists now claim justify the existence of NATO. Consider, for example, the regime in Communist China. As this magazine and other sources have documented extensively, the murderous Chinese dictatorship has been aided and abetted at every step of the way...

Three bills presented by Wyoming legislators last week requiring the state’s treasurer to invest in gold and silver are the logical follow-up to the state’s decision last summer to declare gold and silver as legal tender, just like the Constitution demands in Article I, Section 10: “No State shall … make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts.” If signed into law, the three bills would direct the state’s treasurer to invest 10 percent of the funds held in the state’s pension fund, its reserve fund, and its mineral trust fund in gold and silver. Each bill has 15 or more cosponsors, and they are being sold to other legislators as a necessary counterbalance to those funds’ traditional holdings of government bills, notes, bonds, and other investments. This is especially persuasive, as those funds have suffered paper losses of more than $200 million thanks to investments in foreign securities. The bills would also reinforce the state’s decision last summer to allow its residents to use gold and silver alongside Federal Reserve Notes (either paper or digital) in daily transactions, and eliminate any taxes on those transfers. That bill received overwhelming support in both the Wyoming House and Senate, and the bills presented last week are expected to get similar support. Mike Maharrey, communications director for the Tenth Amendment Center, was delighted: “By removing the taxes on the exchange of gold and silver, Wyoming will treat specie as money instead of a commodity. This represents a step toward reestablishing gold and silver as legal tender and breaking down the Fed’s monopoly on money.” Former Congressman Ron Paul, an advocate for constitutional money, added, “It’s just to me sad that we are so far removed from the Constitution. But a little bit here and little bit there there is going to be a revolution in monetary policy.” William Greene, assistant professor of political science at South Texas College and analyst at Mises Institute, explained how important Wyoming’s move back to the Constitution is — it could lead to Gresham’s Law in reverse: Over time, as residents of the state use both Federal Reserve notes and silver and gold coins, the fact that the coins hold their value more than Federal Reserve notes do will lead to a “reverse Gresham’s Law” effect, where good money (gold and silver coins) will drive out bad money (Federal Reserve notes). As this happens, a cascade of events can begin to occur, including the flow of real wealth toward the state’s treasury, an influx of banking business from outside of the state — as people in other states carry out their desire to bank with sound money — and an eventual outcry against the use of Federal Reserve notes for any transactions. Even more importantly, the fraud of paper and digital money would be exposed. Former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan knew about the fraud, and wrote of it in his article “Gold and Economic Freedom” in 1966:

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is building a $99-million supercomputer that will give the agency the “unprecedented ability to track the lives and transactions of tens of millions of American citizens,” tax expert Daniel Pilla reports. The IRS is already dangerous enough, notes Pilla. “The IRS lays claim to your data without court authority more so than any other government agency. And to make matters worse, they share the data with any other federal, state or local government agency claiming an interest, including foreign governments.” The IRS already receives billions of tax documents annually, and the amount of information the agency receives continues to grow. According to the IRS’ 2018 – 2022 Strategic Plan, the agency’s data volume increased a hundredfold between 2007 and 2017, while the number of users with access to that data grew by a factor of 23. But that’s not enough for the IRS, which states in its Strategic Plan that it wants “to increase its access to data, and use that data more effectively to drive its agency-wide decision making, as well as case evaluations and selections for enforcement purposes,” pens Pilla. Thus, the agency is investing $99 million in a contract with Palantir Technologies of Palo Alto, California, to provide hardware, software, and training to “capture, curate, store, search, share, transfer, perform deconfliction, analyze and visualize large amounts of disparate structured and unstructured data.” Specifically, Palantir is tasked with building and training IRS employees to use a supercomputer to “search, analyze, visualize, and interact with a wide variety of disparate data sets so users will be able to leverage the platform to perform advanced analytics, such as link, pattern, statistical, behavioral, and geospatial analysis on an investigative platform that is scalable and interoperable with existing IRS equipment and systems.” Under the terms of the contract, writes Pilla, the system has to meet the following criteria: Allow for the rapid ingestion of massive amounts of data. Users should be able to immediately use the imported data in the imported format to perform queries, analysis and identify links. Allow users to drill down on massive amounts of disparate data to find connections.

Gold output in South Africa fell for the 14th straight month in November. According to Bloomberg, it ranks as the longest streak of monthly declines since 2012. Production fell 14% from a year earlier, Pretoria-based Statistics South Africa said in a statement on its website last week. South Africa once led the world in gold production. The precipitous drop in the country’s mine output over the last few years is expected to continue and could foreshadow a long-term trend of falling gold production globally. According to the Bloomberg report, most of South Africa’s gold mines are unprofitable at current prices. Although South Africa still ranks eighth in the world in gold production, it continues to rapidly fall down the list of leading gold producers. In fact, South Africa may run out of gold within four decades, according to the Environmental Economic Accounts Compendium published by African Statistics Day. Analysts say that at current production levels, South Africa has only 39 years of accessible gold reserves remaining. Large goldfields such as South Africa’s Witwatersrand Basin are nearing the end of their life cycles. More than 40% of all the gold mined in human history came from the Witwatersrand Basin. But annual gold output in South Africa has plummetted. In 1970, South African mines produced 1,000 tons of gold. Since then, production has steadily dropped. The country only produced 139.9 tons in 2017. That represents a better than 86% drop from the 1970 peak.

Two Connecticut Democrats have proposed legislation that could serve as the progressive left’s most effective form of backdoor gun control yet, if implemented. State Senator Will Haskell and State Representative Jillian Gilchrest declared their intentions last week to sponsor a bill that would tax the sale of all forms of ammunition in Connecticut at a whopping 50%. This backdoor gun control measure would serve a de facto purpose of effectively pricing out a great portion of middle and working-class gun owners, leaving Connecticut’s already significantly hollowed-out Second Amendment protections reserved exclusively for the wealthy. The legislation would exempt law enforcement and military from paying the ammunition tax hoisted upon everyday civilians. Ammunition is essentially useless without a firearm, and purchase of it isn’t subject to the same degree of legal scrutiny one would undergo when purchasing a gun. It’s also unclear how the ammunition tax legislation would deal with online ammunition sales in a world where the Second Amendment community increasingly relies on online retailers. If online sales can’t be subjected to the tax, the legislation could have the effect of placing many local Connecticut gun stores and shooting ranges out of business, stripping them of their ability to compete with online retailers for ammunition sales. The state already has both an “assault weapons” ban and a ban on magazines with a capacity to hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition. It’s unclear how a heavy tax on ammunition would make average Connecticuters safer, especially when the state already has enacted severe measures with the intention of discouraging gun ownership among law-abiding citizens. Connecticut had tragically been the site of the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012, which motivated the state legislature to enact some of the aforementioned gun control measures.

China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) has announced major changes aimed to transform itself into a modern fighting force taking its focus away from land-based fighting which has defined much of the 20th century since WWII whiling boosting its navy, air force and new strategic units focused on emerging hi-tech threats such as cyberwarfare. A new report this week in the official Xinhua News Agency has touted the military's "transformational changes" which has seen its infantry and ground operations branch outpaced by the others as part of what's described as a "strategic shift designed to transform the People’s Liberation Army into a comprehensive modern force." The shift is so significant that it's seen the navy, air force, rocket force and a "strategic support force" (responsible for areas like cyberwarefare) climb to over the 50% of total PLA troops, further leaving the total number of officers in the PLA reduced by 30% (as traditionally large ground forces require more officers for those units). Calling the shift "unprecedented," Xinhua described the reorientation in the PLA's priorities a result of President Xi Jinping's 2015 pledge to downsize the number of personnel by 300,000 in order to rapidly bring the armed forces into the modern era, which has largely left massive infantries and "front" warfare behind. But regardless of the huge reduction China still has by far the largest military in the world by sheer numbers, with 2 million active servicemen and women, down from 2013, when a defense white paper puts its combined branches at 2.3 million servicemen, with only 235,000 in the Navy and 398,000 in the Air Force. By comparison, the United States claims nearly 1.3 million total active military personnel and another 800,000 in reserves. With China's army now taking a backseat, Beijing is expected to continue shifting away from mere homeland-based defense to engaging threats by air and sea, increasingly in disputed waters in places like the East and South China China, and in protection of its interests abroad as its "Belt and Road Initiative" continues to take root. Update: Newark airport has been given the green light to resume normal operations following the drone incident. Normal #EWR operations have resumed after arrivals were briefly held by the FAA due to reports of drone activity north of the airport earlier this evening. We’re coordinating with the FAA & fully supporting all federal law enforcement authorities as they investigate this incident — Newark Liberty Airport (@EWRairport) January 23, 2019 *** The Federal Aviation Agency ordered Newark Liberty International Airport to halt flights temporarily after a drone sighting, according to Bloomberg. The civilian drone was spotted just north of the New Jersey hub flying at an altitude of 3,500 feet according to FAA spokesman Greg Martin on Tuesday. The grounding comes one week after the Trump administration announced a long-awaited set of proposals allowing drones to fly at night and over populated areas without a waiver, while also tightening security for industries seeking to expand into robotic aerial deliveries. Under the proposed rule change, the FAA would require drone operators to have "an anti-collision light illuminated and visible for at least 3 statute miles." Those weighing under 0.55 pounds could fly over populated areas without additional restrictions. Manufacturers of drones weighing more than that would have to prove to the FAA that if their product "crashed into a person, the resulting injury would be below a certain severity threshold."

In a week that has been defined by blunders committed by the "Fake News" media, President Trump is taking his bashing of the American press to a whole new level. Following an earlier tweet where he condemned the mainstream media outlets for bashing a teenager at a Catholic high school in Kentucky who was accused of harassing a Native American activist after video footage of the encounter was taken wildly out of context, Trump revealed that he told Press Secretary Sarah Sanders "not to bother" with press conferences because of the unfair and "rude" media coverage she receives. The reason Sarah Sanders does not go to the “podium” much anymore is that the press covers her so rudely & inaccurately, in particular certain members of the press. I told her not to bother, the word gets out anyway! Most will never cover us fairly & hence, the term, Fake News! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 22, 2019 Since almost the beginning of the Trump Administration, the mainstream press has consistently griped that the supposedly "daily" White House press briefings now only happen once in a blue moon. According to an analysis by Quartz, which cited data from the American Presidency Project, in 2018, Sanders "held drastically fewer briefings than her peers, allowed relatively few questions, and engaged in many contentious exchanges." Compared with her 13 most recent predecessors (including Sean Spicer), Sanders holds far fewer briefings per month, averaging only 11.5 during her tenure as of September. However, that number is expected to plummet because Sanders has held only 3 briefings since September. And while Trump himself has regularly held press briefings independently of Sanders, he is also holding fewer than most of his recent peers (though he is tied with Obama at 21). Given the direction that coverage of the Trump administration has been trending, we wouldn't be surprised to see that number fall even further. https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-01-22/trump-told-sarah-sanders-not-bother-press-briefings-anymore
