Swordsmyth replied to a thread Mattis out! in U.S. Political News
Former Defense Secretary General James Mattis and some White House employees were directly aware of and monitoring a team working to launch a Mattis Republican primary campaign against President Donald Trump in the 2020 election, according to documents obtained by Big League Politics and statements from the organizers who put the team together. “My job was to see what his pathway to the White House would look like,” Travis Snyder told Big League Politics in a series of interviews, referring to General Mattis. “There was a very small team.” Snyder, a twenty-five year-old Indiana-based political consultant whom insiders say is close to Vice President Mike Pence, ran point on the operation, which Mattis and others were keeping track of. Snyder also confirmed that the group polled Mike Pence’s chances to run against Trump, and found that Pence had no chance. “I oversaw early states polling, putting together possible running mates,” Snyder said. “I did not work with the fundraising team. I solely looked at what his path to the nomination would look like, and then his pathway to the White House,” Snyder said, declining to name the donors to the effort or the main person organizing it. Running mate prospects included Nikki Haley and Dan Crenshaw. “Nikki Haley was polled. Jackie Walorski, Mitch Daniels. There were regional smaller named people like Staff Sergeant Johnny Joe Jones” but Jones did not have the name ID, Snyder said.

Libertarian National Committee Chair Nicholas Sarwark opposes Alabama’s latest pro-life bill. In a statement on Facebook, Sarwark said, “The Libertarian Party calls for an end to government persecution and prosecution of the women who choose abortions and of the medical personnel who assist them.” Renowned libertarians like former Congressman Ron Paul maintain pro-life stances, given their belief that governments exist to protect life from external aggression. Since the 2016 presidential elections, when the Libertarian Party nominated Gary Johnson and Bill Weld as their presidential ticket, the party has taken a leftward, politically correct turn. This has concerned long-time libertarians and has even caused more traditionalist libertarians like Tom Woods to join the party in their efforts to reform it. Sarwark’s latest statement only confirms this trend. More at: https://bigleaguepolitics.com/libertarian-party-chair-rejects-liberty-for-unborn-babies-supports-legalized-murder/

The DeVos family, the rich conservatives who are a mainstay of west Michigan GOP politics, have announced that they no longer support Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) following his public endorsement for impeachment of President Donald Trump this weekend. DeVos family spokesman Nick Wasmiller told the Detroit News that they have not contributed to Amash during this political cycle and “they have no plans to do so.” He says they came to this decision before Amash announced his belief that Trump was guilty of “impeachable conduct,” as they had noticed a decided shift from the Congressman. “Family members have expressed increasing concerns about a lack of representation for their district, the 3rd Congressional, and I would say an inability to advance efforts connected to important policy matters,” Wasmiller said. Despite losing the support of the DeVos family, Amash still arrogantly dismisses primary challengers who have announced their opposition to him. “It’s not serious,” Amash said today of his announced opponents, Michigan House Rep. Jim Lower and veterans rights advocate Tom Norton. The DeVos family is currently undecided on whether they plan to support one of Amash’s announced opponents, or perhaps a future one as the Grand Rapids Congressman has become a lightning rod within Michigan conservative politics. “I don’t think they’ve considered that up until this point,” Wasmiller said. “I think those folks have announced fairly recently, and (the family will) go through their standard review process to determine if they will support someone, and if so, who that is.”

The Turkish Lira tumbled as much as 1% against the dollar, leading a decline across emerging markets... ... while Turkish stock market losses accelerated as the Borsa Istanbul 100 Index falls 1.5%, declining for a 6th day and 13 of the past 14, to touch the lowest level since January 2017, effectively entering a bear market, having tumbled 20% from the March highs. While there wasn't a specific event behind today's mauling of Turkey, which to many investors has become the canary in the emerging markets coalmine, the selling picked up after Turkey said soldiers had been dispatched for training in Russia ahead of the delivery of the S-400 missile-defense system. As Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said additionally, as the deadline of S-400 system delivery looms, Turkey will send more personnel for training in the coming months. The United States Navy wants to archive 350 billion social media posts in order to conduct “research.” What exactly does the military want to study? “Modes of collective expression.” The Department of the Navy has posted a solicitation asking contractors to bid on a project that would amass a staggering 350 billion social media posts dating from 2014 through 2016. The data will be taken from a single social media platform – but the solicitation does not specify which one. -RT “We seek to acquire a large-scale global historical archive of social media data, providing the full text of all public social media posts, across all countries and languages covered by the social media platform,” the contract synopsis reads. The Navy said that the archive would be used in “ongoing research efforts” into “the evolution of linguistic communities” and “emerging modes of collective expression, over time and across countries.” This is simply spying and the research will be used for propaganda purposes, and that is blatantly obvious at this point. The intentions are far from benign. The archive will draw from publicly available social media posts and “no private communications or private user data” will be included in the database. However, all records must include the time and date at which each message was sent and the public user handle associated with the message. Additionally, each record in the archive must include all publicly available meta-data, including country, language, hashtags, location, handle, timestamp, and URLs, that were associated with the original posting. -RT So basically, most of your information is going to be stored by the U.S. military. The data must be collected from at least 200 million unique users in at least 100 countries, with no single country accounting for more than 30 percent of users, according to the contract. Iraq will raise the oil production from its giant West Qurna 1 field by as much as 50,000 bpd in the next few days, a senior industry official told Reuters on Wednesday, days after the oil field developer ExxonMobil evacuated all its foreign staff from the field amid security concerns. Currently, the West Qurna 1 oil field pumps around 440,000 bpd, while Iraq’s intention is to increase that production to 490,000 bpd within days, Basra Oil Company chief Ihsan Abdul Jabbar told Reuters. Earlier this month, Iraq was close to signing a mega US$53-billion deal with Exxon and PetroChina to develop oil fields in the south. The deal was “very close” but has been slowed by Exxon’s departure from Iraq, Ghadhban said this weekend. Ben Carson’s Department of Housing and Urban Development has decided to restore single-sex spaces for women in homeless shelters amid growing Democratic pressure for women to share their sleeping and bathroom spaces with men who say they have the “gender identity” of women. Carson’s restoration of women’s rights prompted immediate criticism from progressive groups that said the policy would unfairly impact the very small share of Americans who say they are transgender. The policy, according to the Washington Post, would “weaken Obama-era protections for homeless transgender people, allowing federally funded shelters to deny people admission on religious grounds or force transgender women to share bathrooms and sleeping quarters with men.” Fifty-one percent of Americans are women. Less than one percent of Americans say they are transgender. The vast majority of men who say they are transgender are also biologically intact, and many seek to sleep with women. Transgender groups denounced Carson’s restored protections for battered and homeless women that were gradually stripped from women in 2012, 2014 and 2015 by officials working for former President Barack Obama. “Secretary Carson’s actions are contrary to the mission of his Department and yet another example of tragic cruelty of this administration,” said a statement from the National Center for Transgender Equity, which spotlighted broad claims of alleged mistreatment by shelter operators. In general, transgender organizations say the federal government should force Americans to accept claims by people who say they are transgender members of the opposite sex. But the Trump administration — and some GOP legislators — are restoring the “bright line of biology” when recording each person’s legal sex. Democrats have become so 'progressive' they're ditching women in favor of transgender voters, who comprise maybe 0.3 percent of voters. So now GOP leaders get an opportunity to show they are defending rights & status for actual women. Will they use it? https://t.co/EeRq3hsFlt — Neil Munro (@NeilMunroDC) May 18, 2019 Carson’s proposed rule says taxpayer-funded shelters will have the freedom to provide accommodation suited to transgender people who say their “gender identity” is different from their sex and biology. For example, a shelter could place two transgender people in the same room. But the key language in the HUD statement says shelter operators also have the freedom to consider a person’s sex when deciding what rooms and bathrooms they can or cannot use.

Border officers are returning pregnant migrants to Mexico, according to the Los Angeles Times. Under the headline, “Pregnant women, other vulnerable asylum seekers are returned to Mexico to await hearings,” the Los Angeles Times described how President Donald Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy is reducing the ability of adventurous migrants to give birth in the United States: When Enma Hernandez crossed the Rio Grande here illegally about two weeks ago and approached Border Patrol agents seeking asylum, she told them she was eight months pregnant. Hernandez, 26, said she had fled Guatemala hoping to join her husband and 2-year-old daughter in Miami. Instead, U.S. immigration officials returned her to Ciudad Juarez under the Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” policy. … Hernandez says American officials should let pregnant women remain in the U.S. until their asylum cases are decided. “We should be an exception because we are vulnerable,” she said. “It’s dangerous for us here.” Four other pregnant migrants crossed the bridge on Thursday with her, along with a new mother carrying her 6-day-old daughter. All were in the Remain in Mexico program.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has won resounding support in last week's mid-term elections. Wednesday's official results show his allies now control the senate which so far has served as a check on some of his more controversial policies. The win gives him sweeping power to push his agenda including constitutional changes and reintroducing the death penalty. The election has also cemented his family members in the political elite. Despite criticism from rights groups over his brutal drug war, the president remains hugely popular across the Philippines. More at: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-48277482

Military prosecutors seeking the source of news leaks in the case of a Navy SEAL accused of murder misled a judge to get permission to track emails sent to defense lawyers and a journalist, an attorney said Tuesday after reviewing newly released investigation documents. Navy investigators and the prosecutor didn't get warrants or the necessary approval from higher-ups to investigate civilians, attorney Tim Parlatore told The Associated Press. They also snooped on emails of military lawyers and judges in the case. "Everything I've suspected turned out to be true," Parlatore said. "The prosecutor did participate in the spying on the defense ... the prosecutor did lie to the court." Parlatore, who represents Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher at his court-martial, declined to provide details, saying he would do so Wednesday in a San Diego military courtroom. Gallagher is charged with killing a wounded Islamic State prisoner under his care in Iraq in 2017. Dozens of Republican congressmen have championed Gallagher's cause, claiming he's an innocent war hero being unfairly prosecuted. President Donald Trump got him moved from the brig to better confinement in a military hospital with access to his lawyers and family. Revelations about the extent of the leak probe come amid efforts by defense lawyers to have prosecutors and a judge removed just a week before Gallagher is scheduled to face trial at Naval Base San Diego. The documents — about 180 pages of investigation reports — were turned over to Parlatore in advance of the hearing on whether to put the case on hold while he finds out what prosecutors and the judge knew before allowing the targeting of defense lawyers and Navy Times editor and reporter Carl Prine.

Four high-ranking NYPD cops are suing the city, claiming they were scapegoats forced into retirement to protect Mayor de Blasio and former Police Commissioner Bill Bratton from a federal bribery investigation and denied due process. Former Inspector Peter DeBlasio and ex-Deputy Chiefs Andrew Capul, David Colon and Eric Rodriguez were booted from the department in 2016 after being linked to a bribes-for-favors scandal revolving around mayoral donors Jona Rechnitz and Jeremy Reichberg. “At the end of the day, you always need sacrificial lambs. But we don’t know why. Why us?” Capul told the Daily News. “That job we love so much — they took it away from us. We want someone to step up and tell us why.” “The Police Department would not tell us what we allegedly did wrong,” Capul said.
