Those of us old enough can remember a time when the very question at hand would have been deemed a stupidity only because so many people had the smarts to know how obvious the answer: this is low-rent political drama designed with the intent of frightening some people. The set of tacit assumptions on such matters are broad and deep, all of them carrying the subtext of doom. What appalls me in all this is not even so much the failure of intelligence that this sort of thing represents on the part of the common man, as his revolting timidity and barking cowardice. This could be forgiven in women, again speaking to the mean and not meant to suck in every individual, but that the men manifest such cowardliness is disgusting and pathetic beyond my ability to place words. This is perhaps a penultimate example of how Theye have managed to derail "traditional" (awful term, IMO) male characteristics in favor of supplanted female traits, turning men into what would have once been called "fairies". Progressives will naturally wish and perhaps even call for my head on a platter, as will some who deem themselves "evolved" and/or "modern". So be it. In my opinion, one of the defining characteristics of a "man" is courage. Proper women should also have courage, albeit I find that its expression takes somewhat differing forms. This is why the men I have known, those of my personal circle of which I am perhaps the least example, understand that the female is not to be expected to have the same timbre of courage as themselves, which not only seems well and good, but also satisfies the progressive's obsessive fascination with "diversity". A proper man, in my estimation, faces that which scares him sheet-white in the form of immediate physical threats. That is the very definition of "courage". Yet today we see men cowering like frightened little children right along with the women when subjects such as "government shutdown" arise as real possibilities in the immediate time-frame. It is embarrassing to witness it, so much so that it tends to evoke anger in real men, whose empathy is taxed too far in such cases, so deeply pathetic being the condition beheld. It is much like watching the suffering of a hopelessly injured animal; a proper adult puts such creatures to their rapid and merciful end not only for the sake of the animal's suffering, but to end their own at the hands of their empathy. Both parties feel the relief. When such suffering is prolonged beyond the point of absurdity, anger tends to be one of the common emotional responses precisely because we suffer through our empathic components, often beyond the point of tolerance. So it is I find it with these mangled, maimed examples of the male of the species who have been so horribly reduced that they cannot be rightly called "men" at all. Few things can one find that are as painfully and depressingly sad as this. Today, the nation drowns in them and we get to see just how true this is when the media radiates their tacit messages of pending apocalypse that are threatened with the words "government shutdown". The ignorance that is also represents would be difficult to overstate, as is the various lies that it represents. Were people both courageous and clued, they would yearn for such outcomes, which would likely never come to pass. But were they to, the welcome wagon would be broken out and grand parades held in honor of the miracle that had taken place.

I don't have a problem with mitigating or aggravating factors being considered in sentencing. The violent bigotry exhibited by Lauren Kirk-Coehlo can be considered an aggravating factor. It should not be required to be considered, but it should not be prohibited from being considered, either. The problem I have is that it is not the local community that is deciding whether and how to apply those factors - it is "justice system" apparatchiks and automatons who are making such decisions (such as the "Yolo County probation officials" and their "sentencing reports" mentioned in the OP article).

Hate Crimes are #FakeCrimes. Property crimes are real. But of course, as far as the State is concerned, there are no crimes against persons or property - there are only crimes against the State. Which is exactly why we get bullshit like this: Full restitution and punitive damages would be perfectly adequate. A prison term of any length is entirely uncalled for. But the State doesn't give a damn about making victims whole. It only cares about feeding its own rapacious maw.

Sounds like a special case of the following:"No man's life, liberty or property are safe while the Legislature is in session." -- Gordon J. Tucker The former is what happens in republics. The latter is what happens in empires. Even the Caesars sometimes attended the Senate, if only for the sake of form. I guess we're getting past that point now ...

President’s flexibility on wall funding could ease bipartisan deal on spending bill to avoid a government shutdown later this week (hee hee) By Kristina Peterson and Rebecca Ballhaus Updated April 24, 2017 10:41 p.m. ET WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump is open to waiting until later this year to secure funding for a wall along the border with Mexico, White House officials said Monday night, in a shift that could clear the way for lawmakers to strike a deal to avoid a government shutdown on Saturday. Mr. Trump and top administration officials previously indicated the president wanted to include money to begin building a wall along the southern border in the bill to keep the government running after its current funding expires at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, which is also the president’s 100th day in office. The president addressed the issue at a reception with conservative media at the White House on Monday night. The president’s new flexibility over whether the wall is funded in this spending bill or one that will be needed in late September could remove one of the last remaining hurdles facing congressional Democrats and Republicans hammering out the five-month bill they must pass this week to avoid a partial government shutdown.

Fixed with bold insertions ^^^^^ So get rid of prisons - and the myriad statutory rules and "Propositions" that intentionally feed them (or unintentionally fail to feed them, as the case may be). Then (re)implement restitution, indenturement, weregild, outlawry, citizen-initiated-and-arbitrated indictments, etc. But, no ... if that was done, then there would be little or no role for the State's so-called "justice" system and Prison-Industrial Complex ...

We can't tolerate a ratio of anything less than infinity:0. Cops need to be shooting ALL mundane dogs (and other perps) - not just some of them. Officer safety is too important to do anything less.

More poorly worded attempts at insult...By one who claims qualified to denote insanity by mere proclamation..... Ho-hum... Appearing to a person of your intellect as "insane" or "nuts" surely means I'm on the right track.... After all one needs only look around to see where people of your ilk have gotten society. It has nothing to do with emotion. And it has nothing to do with "the impact of more lives lost" (whatever that is supposed to mean). It is an appeal against hypocrisy. Killers can be punished without killing them. Capital punishment will inevitably result in the killing of innocents. Killing innocents in the name of punishing the killers of innocents is the epitome of hypocritical self-contradiction If anything, yours is the emotional position. You clearly don't give a damn about the wrongly-convicted innocent. I doubt you even give a damn about the rightly-convicted guilty. As I suspect is the case for many "law and order" masturbators, support for capital punishment seems to be little more than a legal way of vicariously getting off on killing other people.

No you imbecile you started with the insults and I'm more than happy to sling 'em right back at your poorly equipped ass... It must be difficult trying to actually state a position on much of anything when you keep finding yourself having to rely on insults... As for this thread and the topic of "The death penalty" ..... I'm all for killing those who need killing but I'm dead set against agents of the state being involved in either the trial or the execution.

I don't know what is wrong with the rep system that you get three neg reps and I'm only allowed to give you one. But Hillary didn't lie about her client nor did she say he was guilty of first degree rape. She said that was the charge. I did watch it and you lied. Further he didn't "get off." He plead guilty to a lesser charge. What Hillary said was "I got him off WITH TIME SERVED." He's still on the sex abuse registry the rest of his life. You have not identified a single legitimate ethical lapse in anything Hillary did or said in that video.
