Really? What libertarian would support this? This is just a right wing "bake the cake Nazi" bill. The owner has every right to restrict guns and people know the risks of entering a gun free establishment. The culpability lies with the shooter not the business. There is a far more reasonable argument to be made for lawsuits if something happens in a public area that is a gun free zone.

What Sanders' worker said was much worse than the newsletters. Name one campaign worker who endorsed those newsletters in the 2008 or 2012 campaigns.

That "The rich already have socialism" is the bottom barrel talking point of the left. I am all for getting rid of corporate welfare but that amounts to nothing compared to actual welfare spending. They act like we don't have a gigantic welfare state. Entitlements are 70% of the budget. https://www.crfb.org/blogs/does-entitlement-spending-constitute-71-percent-budget And this whole idea that the US is just this austere place and Europe takes care of their people. Here are the facts. Right from the New York Times. We spend more per as a share of GDP than Australia, Canada, Israel and Ireland

That is how the 14th Amendment should be applied. States do not have rights. People have rights. And if a state government violates rights then the federal government should intervene and force those states to not violate rights. For example laws against contraception or sodomy are illegitimate. The 14th Amendment should be used to limit state abuse. And the 14th Amendment was, and should be in the future, used far more expansively than the courts have used it recently. Laws against drugs and prostitution, minimum wage laws, affirmative action, most regulations, and special protections for unions should be dismantled using the 14th Amendment. The 14th Amendment was originally used as an aggressive tool for liberty. New York had a law that limited the hours bakery employees worked. The court ruled in 1905 the New York law violated the freedom of contract implicit in the 14th Amendment. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lochner_v._New_York The right judges should reassert Lochner.

Surprised Rand said that. I followed Rand's 2016 campaign closely and Grenell trashed Rand constantly and viciously. I don't use the word neocon as loosely as most people here but I would have said he falls in the Bill Kristol neocon camp. He's very hawkish anyway you look at it.

There is a pretty good case a recession is in the cards. The yield curve inverted last year. Earnings are probably going to top this quarter. But Ron keeps talking about inflation and the horrible economy. This is the lowest stretch of inflation of Ron's lifetime. This is the best economy of Ron's lifetime. He should just admit that and can still talk about long term policy problems, instead of talking about INFLATION.

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/02/evidence-conservative-students-really-do-self-censor/606559/ Just a reminder, regressives are the real threat in the world today, not the handful of white supremacists who are a small enough group to all fit into one room. The most intolerant people on the planet have always been leftists. They don't believe in the marketplace of ideas. If you don't go along you are threat to the poor, minorities, the environment, people who just don't want to work, science, the whales, gays, transgender, gender neutral, the children, future children, and single women. And don't get them started on the patriarchy. They want to dismantle any semblance of family because Karl Marx said family furthered the patriarchy. And for those threats, they believe you need to be shunned and probably should just be killed if they are being honest.

Umm... Actually I did. It was the only reason I even opened the thread and literally the only post I made in it was about that connection. I mean you responded to the post. I get that what you post is mostly a bunch of crazy insanity about Rothchilds and George Soros and something about banks and the new world order, but I did feel the need to correct the small point because you literally responded to the post where I mentioned Hayek and George Soros.

I like how you make that sound sinister saying he "admitted" it, as if Hayek was hiding some deep dark secret his whole life. He writes this in his books. Like a lot of people, he was a socialist early in life. Then he credits meeting Ludwig von Mises and convincing him of markets. Not really that sinister or conspiratorial. Actually being left wing in youth and knowing better later on is quite common. Though I will credit you with pointing out the Soros was influenced by Hayek. I have posted that before on these forums and was the first thing I thought of when I saw the poll. Soros didn't study Hayek too deeply and had a very superficial understanding of Hayek. But Soros believes economies are too complex to model and believes economics shouldn't be treated like a physical science. Nothing sinister there either.

Growth has picked up under Trump and has been slightly above Obama. Milton Friedman laid out the plucking model of recessions in the 60s that seems to be right. https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2019-11-04/milton-friedman-s-plucking-theory-of-recessions-looks-right He said steep recessions lead to steep recoveries, like pulling on a guitar string to a very stretched point and then releasing. There wasn't a steep recovery under Obama. Some of that was probably the amount of debt homeowners had on their balance sheets. But Obama objectively made a ton of supply side errors. He kept a corporate income tax rate at the highest in the world. He increased regulation (i.e. hiked taxes) dramatically on the environment and business in a time that it made sense to deregulate. And the banking regulations Obama put into place ending up forcing monetary policy to be to tight at a time when it was impossible for the policy to be too loose. From one the most respected economists by people in the real world. https://www.forbes.com/sites/stevehanke/2017/05/31/how-bank-regulations-hinder-the-u-s-recovery/#3a106a0a2528 And if you think Hanke is some random economist to support my view here is his resume. He is Chairman Emeritus of the Friedberg Mercantile Group, Inc. in Toronto, a macro hedge fund that has blown it out of the water for decades. https://www.opalesque.com/47452/Friedberg_Global_Macro_Fund_returns_in452.html Inside the Johns Hopkins finance class that's 'guaranteed' to get you a job on Wall Streethttps://www.businessinsider.com/johns-hopkins-wall-street-guarantee-finance-course-2015-5 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Hanke

That is a good short term solution to get Trump reelected. But the problem is the Democrats will conclude that nominating a "moderate" is the wrong thing to do after Hillary and Bloomberg and the are likely to stay hard left as a party.

If Sanders gets nominated and loses big, the fever will break and the party will start to moderate. I think Sanders getting crushed in a general election will have the same effect on his followers as when Ron lost. I really hope he gets the nomination over Bloomberg so that this madness starts to go away. Remember when people were calling themselves libertarian? After Ron's campaign and Rand's dud campaign that kind of just went away. Now most of those people are back to just being outsiders looking for a cause. I think (hope) the same thing happens but to Bernie cultists.

I think Bloomberg/Klobachar/Biden will get the nomination but I would like to see Bernie win. It makes Trump getting reelected far more likely and if he gets blown out it in the general election itwill cripple the hard left for a generation. It would be great to see him be like McGovern.

I said I think Stone is guilty because a jury convicted him. But nine years???? You think that is even remotely reasonable? If I knew nothing about the people involved or the case, my intuition would be probation or less than a year of jail time. Nine years is so bonkers and draconian that I don't even know how meet someone halfway on this.

This case is a good litmus test to see who has objective views and who is Trump deranged. Stone getting seven years or nine years is beyond ridiculous. Rand Paul's neighbor originally got 30 days for something far worse. Not saying Stone didn't break some laws but this is minor stuff.

That judge us hardly a neutral party. She is a left wing activist Obama appointee. She doubled Paul Manafort's already insane sentence. I watched the American Greed on Paul Manafort. Instead of being disgusted at Manafort, I was disgusted at how the justice system is being used to punish people excessively for their politics. Manafort and Stone's sentences are major civil liberties violations. No right thinking person thinks tax evasion and the bank fraud associated with it deserves eight years. As far as Stone, this stuff seems like maybe a year if not just probation. Seven years is vile. It is amazing how people on the left will pay lip service for criminal justice reform- but only when it applies to their voters.

I read his book a few weeks back. He didn't buy anything. He got fired from his job at an investment bank and went out on his own. And had two major innovations. He provided reliable data on stock prices before the internet and online brokerages to people at home. And developed a platform to disseminate news on stocks that most people on Wall Street still use because it is the best and pay a fortune for it. A lot of people get rich from inheritance or cronyism. Donald Trump is a good example. Michael Bloomberg got no special favors.
