To confirm, occupational licensure, even though it's sole purpose is to limit competition and is a drain on the economy, is just great. That isn't an infringement. Also airline unions are wonderful even though they bankrupt almost airline. Those are not tyranny. But paying three dollars a month for a gun license is statist bootlicking?

I mean... The Second Amendment is one sentence and the first for words are... "A well regulated militia.." You didn't have to wait too long. 3 bucks a month is not onerous or prohibitive to anyone wants to own a firearm.

So it costs you $40 a year to legally own guns? Wow. Totalitarian. And having to take a basic gun safety course sounds just like Nazi Germany. It costs $150 a year to legally drive a car plus insurance. Should anyone be able to legally own as much ammonium nitrate or other bomb making material as they want? How about nuclear weapons? There will always be a line on what people can legally own. Fully automatic weapons seems like a reasonable place to draw it.

Not paying taxes hasn't been shown effective to reduce government. It probably increases the size of government because people think they can get a dollar's worth of government for 75 cents. https://www.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/serials/files/cato-journal/2006/11/cj26n3-8.pdf Agorism seems very hippyish and really inefficient. I would rather just pay the sales tax and get what I want at Wal-Mart, instead of having to live on a commune buying and selling tchotchkes from other hippies. I feel like the snowboarding guy in the video is the perfect symbol agorism. Agorist: "I'll show you government. I'll live a subsistence life and make so little money, you'll get nothing. I'll snowboard all day." Government: "Okay. You didn't pay any taxes to begin with. I'll just raise the taxes on Warren Buffett by 1/eight millionth of a percent to make up for all the lost revenue from you hippies."

He is extremely anti-free enterprise as well. The reality is Kamala Harris is a radical leftist. She isn't a Bill Clinton or Larry Summers centrist. The leftists who complain about Kamala Harris are the mirror image of the people here who complain that the NRA is too moderate. Complaining about people not being radical enough is a tried and true tactic to build a loyal audience Sink Wigger does it. Mark Levin does it. Rothbard and Ayn Rand were that way.

There are more guns than people in this country. There basically are no gun restrictions for anyone who isn't a felon despite the constant clamoring for more gun laws. The NRA might the most effective lobbying group in history. Serious question. What freedom would you personally like with guns that isn't currently available?

Exactly my point. The fact that those are the kinds of examples you use shows how the gun debate has been settled by the right.. Those aren't real infringements. Red flags probably make sense if you restrict it to mental illness. A person with Alzheimer's doesn't have the right to own a gun anymore than a blind person has the right to drive. The only reason to oppose them is if you are worried about sticking the camel's nose under the tent and it opening up the debate for real laws that would restrict gun ownership.

Based on what? There hasn't been any real gun control legislation passed in decades. Gun control and tax cuts are basically the two issues Republicans don't compromise ever on. Given that they are the only major gun group with influence in Washington, it seems like they are pretty effective.

Inflation targeting is a terrible idea. There are times when inflation should be higher than 2% (like now because real GDP is falling) and times when inflation should be negative when you have a productivity boom like the 90s. https://www.econlib.org/archives/2014/05/inflation_targe.html

I have the three book set of Human Action. The first 130 pages or so of the first book are unreadable. The actual economic reasoning is extremely impressive. He is very clear and logical. If you took something like equal pay laws or something like what is the role of the entrepreneur Mises is the best at breaking the issue down. I remember being pretty impressed with his reasoning on the gold standard even though I think it probably is isn't possible now. Mises is a very good defender of how capitalism raises standards of living.

You can safely ignore anything Hoppe says on any topic related to anything. As far as the rest, nothing on that list has practical value in how the world works. Rothbard is fine to read. He's like Noam Chomsky. Useful for mental masturbation on the internet. Not so useful for living in the real world. The best thing I have read by Rothbard was his book on the Depression and it was wrong about why there was a depression. Hayek is the most important liberty thinker for political philosophy. He is extremely thoughtful and his ideas are grounded in pragmatism. Constitution of Liberty covers the essentials to a free society. A Hayekian society actually works and prospers. Economics in One Lesson is good to understand microeconomics. Combine that with market monetarism for macro, and you get something that accurately describes reality and works in the real world. The Fountainhead for personal philosophy. I have three or four books by Mises. Human Action was worthwhile. The Law and other Bastiat stuff is good. Anything Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell write are good and usually they apply to current issues. The Economic Way of Thinking is a very good textbook for economics that covers everything fairly and is for non-econ majors.

I just Googled to find out who the shooter was. He posted on Twitter about the need to be armed to protect against protesters. So he might have looked for a confrontation and people are hysterical about that. No one in any major media points out that the guy who was shot said in an interview hours before the shooting that he dared people people to stand up to him while he carrying. Seems like two idiots. But only one of those idiots initiated aggression by blocking the guys car while carrying a rifle. https://www.texastribune.org/2020/07/31/daniel-perry-austin-protest-garrett-foster/

Owning physical metal has been an awful idea forever. You have storage costs and it is a pretty illiquid market that you take a huge hit on buying and selling. If you are bullish on a metal buying the futures or an etf is much better. And if you the world rapidly does go to hell and you think the physical metals are necessary then you can always convert your etf position to metals. Long story short, the physical metals are expensive insurance policy that has been a terrible bet. Dealers like Peter Schiff will thank you for your donation to their nice lifestyles though.

A large percentage of Jews in this country came here after WWII with nothing. The Nazis took their property. And yet Jews are by far the wealthiest. And it isn't like there aren't a ton of anti-Semites. Jews were blackballed from tons of jobs. Yet thrived in the US. Blacks on the other hand have done less well (but have still done very well relative to what they have done in the rest of their world). So why is that? They are only 5% of physicians despite having extremely low academic standards to get into medical school. https://www.aei.org/carpe-diem/new-chart-illustrates-graphically-racial-preferences-for-blacks-and-hispanics-being-admitted-to-us-medical-schools/ I would be less likely to use a black doctor knowing the results of this chart. They are 2% of college engineering students. https://www.post-gazette.com/opinion/2018/03/21/STEM-the-shortage-of-black-engineers/stories/201803210030 They make up a tiny percentage of business owners."whereas only 3.8 percent of black workers are self-employed business owners" http://ftp.iza.org/dp1292.pdf And the ones who are significantly less successful.

First of all, I always thought AK-47s were illegal outside of purchasing them from collectors. I thought they had to be made before 1986 or something like that. Nothing positive comes from carrying something like that to a rio-errrr, protest. Unless the British are trying to quarter soldiers in your town, open carrying an AK-47 is retarded. I watched the video from the dash cam of a car. The streets were filled with people blocking traffic. They weren't obeying walk signs. They were making the flow of traffic very difficult. The shooter turned down a street and he was swarmed by people like locusts pounding on his car. If some guy in a bandana has an AK-47 and is approaching a car in a mob of people, he no longer needs to be living. That is an aggressive action.
