Yeah, an auto disconnect wired up to the crash sensors would be a leap forward, like you said, battery to vehicle and then from module to module in the battery. Well, you ought to. ;) I'm not trying to "harsh" your enthusiasm of what is most likely the future. Gotta hand it to the high end EV guys, their shit is fast.

This is the Florida we know and love,” Judd outlined while showing local residents enjoying Walt Disney World and the beach before moving on to explain why political leadership is important to guarantee the basic rights to be enjoyed by all citizens.

Be nice if they mounted an easily accessible shut off switch to at least disconnect the car from the battery, like semis, heavy equipment and boats have.

The lithium in a lithium ion rechargeable battery is not in it's metallic form, and a fire can be fought with water.

The first commercially viable Lithium ion batteries were introduced by Sony in 1991. I had a half a pallet of the damn things fall off another pallet inside a half size shipping container. They were adopted early by the oilfield industry for remote and emergency backups for all manner of system controls. This was back in 2006 or 2007, I'd have to look at my logs to know for sure, happened right around new year's day...so "give or take" 15 years. One of them fell onto a sharp pipework guard of other piece of cargo, pierced the case and started a thermal runaway fire that was contained ultimately by snagging the container sling and having the crane operator pick it off the deck and submerge it into the ocean until cooled. No, of course not, Tesla...all EVs in fact, have much larger batteries with thousands of cells. Here is a small cross section of a Tesla battery pack.

The full question is if they said "Drop the gun and show me your hands?" Yes you would drop the gun. Some have suggested if he dropped the gun, but didn't turn around, he'd be alive. And yes I know that if he wasn't out at 2:30 am he'd still be alive. And if he wasn't hanging with a gang banger he'd still be alive. I've said that....repeatedly. I don't know if you have really followed what I've said on the subject, but I've been harsh on his mom who didn't know where he was for 72 hours (though I get the explaination that she might have been afraid to call the police) and the gang banger he was with. I'm not sure what the "community" in general has to do with it. But maybe I'm missing something.

Okay. Your decision pal. Now say if, for whatever reason, you found yourself in the kid's position. No I'm sure you wouldn't have been out at 2:30 AM hanging with a gang banger. But you heard the shot, went out with your gun to investigate like you said, and you heard behind you "Drop the gun and show me your hands."

I'd be looking at a Halon 1211 (yeah yeah yeah I know...or a suitable "green" equivalent) foam system combined with a liquefied refrigerant. Cooling is essential and absolutely key to knocking one of these battery fires down. That's why they keep re-igniting. You think you got it knocked down, overhauled and out, meanwhile the shorted plates are still there, still discharging rapidly and creating fresh heat. Maybe a portable fire tent as well. Cover the vehicle with the tarp or tent, secure it as best as possible and flood the now enclosed space with 1211 Halon foam and liquid R426 or something similar.

Pete, here's the problem with the damn things. It's not the arc or an external short causing the fire, it's an internal runaway reaction that cannot be stopped without massive amounts of cooling water. The plates contain energy, the electrolyte allows energy to drain or charge the battery by allowing ionic flow through it from plate to plate. If that plate separation is compromised, and they make contact in a short circuit, or the electrolyte is lost and they heat up and melt together, a fire is inevitable as all the energy contained in the plates is now rapidly released at the short circuit, and expands as the area gets hotter, the components melt together and the electrolyte gasses off. Which leaves the only way it can be put out is to drown it with water to cool the components below explosion, BLEVE or LEL limits.

A "B" class extinguisher could be used to knock down visible flames long enough to extract or rescue occupants, but without massive amounts of water to cool and stop a thermal runaway, your only other choice is to retreat, isolate and let it burn. Apparently these batteries are not too different from lead acid batteries, in that they have plates, screens and spacers all wrapped around one another and submerged in an electrolyte solution. Rupture and short circuiting of these plates during charging or in crash, causes electrolyte boiling, offgassing then explosion and fire.

I just FINALLY watched a video that had the clip of the officer's instructions and not just the "freeze frame" people keep talking about. Right before the shooting occured the officer said "Show my your f--king hands! Drop it! Drop it!" Yeah, I get that he shouldn't have been out at 2:30 am. I get that he shouldn't have been gang banging. I get that he shouldn't have let that 21 year old who shot the gun hand it to him. Yeah "play stupid games...when stupid prizes." Okay. Got it. High stress situation. Got it. The kid shouldn't have turned around? If someone told me to put my hands in the air okay. But if someone told me to "Show me your hands" my first thought is you want to see the PALMS of my hands. It's possible to hold something in the palm of your hand even if your hand is outstretched. Even a gun. Yeah...^that gun is an antique and maybe there is no modern equivalent. Regardless, that is not an uncommon instruction for police to give. A quick google search and I found this article. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/crime/article229407089.html

I know it's fallen out of favor amongst the leftarians, the "Let's all hold hands and sing Kum-bye-Ya" crowd and Christian New World Order folks, but I still maintain that the level of courage shown by those men 246 years ago is stunning, heroic and worthy of honor and celebration and the nation they created worthy of defense and re-invigoration. In the face of tyranny, and in armed opposition to the largest and most powerful army in the world at that time, while in the midst of a smallpox epidemic that killed one out three who caught it, brought about a nation with a guiding principle so radical that to this day, it's not fully understood: The idea that government exists for only one reason: to protect the rights of the individual. The concept that government can only exercise the power to protect those rights with the consent of the governed. And that when government becomes destructive and hostile to those prime directives, the people have the right to alter, separate from or abolish that government, using whatever force is needed to accomplish that goal.

music director at the Catholic Church I went to removed all references to God as he and used gender neutral terms instead. Two priest did nothing about it. In the Orthodox Churches that I've gone to not just the priest and bishops would not have put up with that, but neither would the congregation. The reason the Orthodox is Orthodox world wide despite separation by land, language and nationalities is that the congregation wants to be Orthodox.

BTW, these are some generalities. I've been to some good Catholic Churches and luke warm Orthodox Churches but I've found Orthodoxy a lot more consistent but oddly, less rigid at the same time.

I found there is less of a tendency for people to ask favors in prayer and more to accept God's will and his mercies.

From my understanding, the roots of the schism go back to Augustine. He was a Latin speaking lawyer who didn’t read the Greek of the Desert Fathers. Luther and many other reformers were heavily influenced by his writings as well as Thomas Aquinas.

Also when refering to the teachings of The Church, Catholics tend to see them as coming from the Pope and Cardinals. The Orthodox see The Church as a consensus of everyone from the Fathers to all the Orthodox today led by the Holy Spirit of course. One thing that led me away from the RCC was the

2 Peter 1:1-11 is our view of Salvation. Yes we are predestined and were are also told to make every effort to confirm our election, so I see it as a mix of Calvinism and RCC. After the schism the Western Churches got hung up on different on bits and pieces of scripture and couldn’t focus on the whole of it. Hell’s Unicorn described Orthodoxy view on soteriology as “primitive.” I couldn’t argue with that. The icons are our family album. The Orthodox way of venerating them is no different than the way we greet each other at Church because we are made in His image. Sometimes I think Orthodox tend to argue too much like Catholics, IMO.

I found there is less of a tendency for people to ask favors in prayer and more to accept God's will and his mercies.

Here's a quick rundown: This is my understanding of the differences between RCs and EOCs. The EOC’s interpretations of scripture takes its roots from the Desert Fathers from the 1st few centuries. There is less of a legalistic and more mystical take. God is not narrowed down to judge, brother, creator etc. He is all that at once. John the Evangelist who reclined his head on Jesus’ chest at the Last Supper, fell to his face in awe and worship in his vision in the Book of Revelation.

Fasting and works are not to fulfil a penance, it is to be closer to God (Actually your questioning about fasting led me to Orthodoxy from the RCC) My understanding of salvation is that I am saved, and my works are to unite me with God-- more to bend my will towards God's.

I was an atheist, then RC, and now EOC. The discussions here helped lead me to the EOC. My first intro to Faith Alone was fellow Marines who had sex with anything and said they were save by FA. That's how I argued it. I think what finally got to me was when some RCs were trying to say the good thief was saved by an act of faith because they didn't want to say he was saved by faith. It wasgrace through faith, and that would have saved me hundred of argumentative posts.

I'm Done

by Christian Liberty on 07-27-2013 at 06:53 PM
I'm so sick of seeing "Support our troops" or even worse "Fighting for our freedoms."

During a trip to Word of Life for a week of camp I saw a bumper sticker that said "God bless our troops, especially our snipers."

Usually, when trying to prove a point about war, I don't discuss the troops. I'll probably continue to do this. One teacher I had was open minded to listening to what I had to say about war, but had a father who had served in
