It's pretty wild reading through comments on sites like RPF, ZH and YT vids about the "ban on Chinese/CCP owned Tiktok". Tiktok in the US is owned by Bytedance US, which is owned by WALL STREET private equity firms. Bytedance US, parent of Tiktok US, is not Chinese controlled and never has been. But, of course, people don't bother to verify who actually owns and operates Bytedance US. Simply throw out the foreign boogeyman and watch everyone clutch their pearls and go along with whatever the agenda is. My guess is that it's to set legislative and court precedent on much more than Tiktok, like the OP describes (social media Patriot Act), while facilitating the "sale" of Tiktok to Elon for integration in the X superapp in development by Elon's H1B staff. It's quite brilliant actually, because plenty of "conservative" women love their Tiktok and if/when it becomes part of the X superapp, they'll quickly migrate over and also force their "conservative" husbands, bfs and beta simps to do the same. I’m just spitballin’ here so bear with me but I’d guess the facts that they’ve been allowed to grow way too big (or exist at all, but that’s another thread) and they spend more than they actually take in might, just maybe, have something to do with it. Just a thought.
