Individual Liberty should never be spoken or written absent the word Responsibility. Individual Liberty-Responsibility.

Not sure if anyone has stayed up to date with regard to protest permits (lol) at certain historic venues but the permitting system has become rather elaborate. It's especially difficult to land a permit to protest near historic monuments and parks. So keep an eye on any future venues where protests are taking place. Take note of the ease in landing permits versus the difficulty for some others to receive them. Monitor who's involved in those protests. Monitor police maneuvering. Monitor dialogue between media and elected representatives after the fact. I think that the repeated permit commentary in the video is likely the most important bit. Additionally the fact that it was acknowledged that there were some people who were not there to cause violence. Yet the stormtroopers (who were proudly displaying their military swat gear and strategic crowd containment maneuvering ability again tee hee hee hee hee) did herd them all together. There's more to say about it. I don't really feel like it, though. Here's what a free speech zone looks like these days...

Well, we all understand that the right to property is the principal support for the very rights to Individual Life and Liberty. Or we should. The problem I have with the author is that he seems to be defining Man himself as his own primary foundation for moral code. Of course, we know that Man's nature is a mixture of good and evil and not perfectible in that regard. Given that Man's weakness in his nature is not perfectible, it must be recognized that the need for safeguards must exist. There's much to say about that. Government will always exist in some form as a consequence. And subsequently aggression. It's late, though. Perhaps tomorrow.

History is a great indicator. We need only reference our history books to bear witness to the many civilizations which have been burned to the ground by some government tyrant in the name of some God. Neither government tyrants or religious tyrants are mutually exclusive in that regard. They require one another in order to establish and maintain control over people. If anyone wants to dispute it, I'll be in the neighborhood.

Yeah, that, too. In fact, I got a message just yesterday from a guy asking me if I'd ship my vintage Breitling Chrono to Portugal. I just responded that I don't ship Internationally. The guy didn't have any buyer/seller feedback either.

Yeah, me, too. I have a sock around here some place. Hehehehe. I always go to Ron when I'm looking for an answer to something. He rarely fails me. Not to bring her back into it but lily promotes veganism from a biblical perspective. I've never heard an actual practicing Monk discuss his reasoning for a plant based lifestyle, though. I'd be interested in making the comparison with the case that some Christians make in its support. If for no other reason than purely educational material.

There was actually some industry penned legislation that specifically said that people had no right to know what was in their food. And it went further to say that the States didn't have the right to protect it's citizens right to know. I posted it around here some place. That kind of thing fundamentally takes away one's freedom of choice. Which is fundamental to Individual Liberty. That was actually a 'conservative' bit of tomscrewery. That wasn't about meat, or vegetables particularly. It was everything. I think they're still trying to get it into law.

Yes, I know. I agree that the vast majority of them would. I was just putting it out there that not all of them are like that. That's all I was saying. I'm a big fan of leave me the heck alone. People are free to make rules for themselves so long as I'm not forced to equally do the same. It's a good rule to live by.

Gotta do whatcha gotta do in a situation like that. I'd venture to say it's likely more than a billion and a half dollars a year loss. They used to tear up my dad's garden when we lived down on the old home place. They're dirty, too. And mean. Pig feces is the worst. You dont want that near your spring. My dad used to pop em off at night. Eventually they stopped coming around. But that just means they went some place else and tore somebody elses garden up. Down south, family gardens for personal use are pretty big. Sometimes an acre or two. If there's nothing left alive, then there's nothing left to can for the winter.

The one thing that I've always disagreed with rev about is his trust in anarcho-monarchism. Perhaps I have my isms confused and I don't really understand what he's actually promoting. I dunno. But that's really the only thing I disagree with him about. The guy knows his history. I can tell that he does because he equates things in his writings that one really wouldn't know that he's equating unless they, too, knew their history. He equated Nationalism to Socialism. So if we look at history, we know that war and socialism have always been the mechanism of the Nationalist's economic control. If I were a clever nationalist (or one who hasn't really studied geopolitical history), I'd promote precisely what the guy in the op promoted. I would promote the idea of collectively organizing to defend society (again, regardless of whether we even knew them) from an international invasion of people looking to take our property. Nationalism is based on a national economy and the idea that a nation can only grow economically at the expense of the rest of the world. That's why he brought up the bit about an invading nation. And his solution was historically no different than any other nation in history which have used war and socialism to support nationalism. Anyway. It's early, O. I'll probably look at this later and retype it. I can't eventhink straight this early.

A lot of the new breed of ''Mises'' writers and politicos have no business even being associated with the name Mises. So a separation must be made in order to acknowledge that reality. The person in the op, while he does get some fundamental things right, is one of those people. I can explain why the combined influence of war and socialism has historically existed as an international movement of the working class. And I can explain that war and Socialism have both historically served as the Nationalist's means of economic control. I touched on it in my previous post. But I can't make you put two and two to gether, Suz. You're a hard head. It's okay. I love you all the same. :) You're doing the right thing by introducing your children to the Mises eductational material. That's something else entirely.

War and Socialism come from Nationalism. And while Nationalism is ancient, the only thing that has changed is its form. From ancient Egypt to the Roman Empire to 17th century Mercantilism, the result has always been the same. A planned economy. And again, by way of war and socialism. That's likely where Rev's coming from with it. It's certainly where I'm coming from with it. But we could go much deeper from a historica lperspective. I don't really feel like it, but we can, I suppose. And reading through the thoughts there in the op, it really is reflective of the Nationalist history and form of planned economies which leads us to to war and Socialism. I think that the person in the op just hasn't thought that all the way through. An example of the writer's shortcoming in understanding the process I've just kind of touched on would be this single line....

The comical thing about some of the comments in this thread is the collectivist mindset to view people as members of groups rather than as Individuals. Being a vegan doesn't automatically make one a liberal just because a collectivist says so.

Well. What's a little humorous is that the op itself is an excellent demonstration of that political mindset. It's unfortunate. I'm mixed about the Mises Institute these days. If they stuck with the Mises economic platform, that's one thing. But Rev's right when he says it's been about a 30 year transition toward the political entity that they've become. Their politics are fudged up.
