I agree. At some point the political pressure to stop inflation will outweigh the pressure to give out free stuff. Like I said before hopefully the inflation will increase slowly. My fear is that we get some sort of crazy hyper-hyperinflation due to the fact that it's so easy to unload your dollars electronically. For example if the dollar started dropping large holders of dollars, like the Chinese, might try to unload their dollars and buy assets like the stock market. I'm not predicting it but it makes me wonder if it's possible.

I agree. Printing money is the path of least resistance. They'll keep printing until the dollar fails. The best case scenario is that the dollar doesn't collapse too fast and the federal reserve has time to tighten. That'll put us in a depression but it's better than hyperinflation.

Where does North Korea get the money to afford those missiles? Maybe they'll go broke firing off test missiles.

We need to "ask" the "most fortunate" to pay their "fair share". Translated: We're going to force at gunpoint, the hardest working and most productive, to fork over almost the entire tax burden at much higher rates than the average citizen pays. Can you imagine if we had "special" laws for other minorities like we do for the most productive? What if white men had a 15% tax rate but black women had to pay 40%? How would that go over?

Growing up as a Catholic (then later converting to Christianity) in suburban Middle America I was raised to believe that the United States was founded as a Christian nation. I recall my Baptist pastor once preaching that the United States was getting less and less Christian and as a result of no longer following Christian values (he brought up how Founding Fathers such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson adhered to them) this country was on a decline. He went on to preach that the strong endorsement of Christianity was preserved by elected Presidents (bringing up FDR and Reagan as examples of "Great Christian Presidents" since they openly endorsed Christianity and did not acknowledge Bush 41, Clinton, Bush 43, nor Obama because they weren't "Christian enough" I reckon) and that this country is declining and headed towards a collapse due to society and elected officials no longer adhering to the Christian values that previous generations in America did. That said, I do have a quote from Founding Father John Adams from Article 11 in the Treaty of Tripoli that says otherwise: “As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen (Muslims); and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan (Mohammedan) nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.” http://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/bar1796t.asp However, here is a quote from Supreme Court Justice Joseph back in 1892:

I hear many contradicting opinions in regards to this issue. Jefferson himself wrote the "Jeffersonian Bible". An edited version of The New Testament in which he removed the parts that he believed were superstition but still seemed to believe in the Christian doctrine, no? https://www.pbs.org/godinamerica/people/thomas-jefferson.html From the article: “Years later, Jefferson drew from the New Testaments in Greek, Latin, French and English to create The Life and Morals of Jesus, commonly known as the "Jefferson Bible." Based on this work, he acknowledged to a close friend, "I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus." For Jefferson, it was the moral message of Jesus, not claims of his birth, death and resurrection, that lay at the center of the Christian faith.” My philosophy professor brought up as an objection to one of my arguments that Thomas Jefferson probably wasn't a Christian. I argued that he was.

The Keys will get obliterated. But if the eye crosses into the everglades I'll bet you it's not as bad as Andrew, at least as far as catastrophic damage and deaths go. The total damage for Irma will be much higher because it will cover more area, and more "stuff", and prices are more inflated.

I lived in Orlando for 25 years and I always said if I had to move back to FL, it would be to the coast. By the way from what I remember when Andrew hit, it took most people by surprise. I think it strengthened rapidly and even then it "pulsed" as it hit land. I seem to remember they thought it was a cat 4 as it was hitting land but later they upgraded it to a cat 5. That was the worst wind damage I've seen from a hurricane.

It just seems to me that it's pretty rare for the wind damage from a hurricane to be a major problem. It's usually has to be a direct hit, close to the eye, from a category 5 for the wind damage to really wipe everyone out. Usually the problem is with flooding. If it hits the everglades I think the really intense, tornado like damage, might be limited. But then again, I didn't stay in a holiday inn express last night either.

Maybe it will cross the Keys and then hit the Everglades. That would seem to limit the damage, wouldn't it?

I agree at least for the complicated conspiracy angle. But what about the actual case on a very basic level? The video, even shown on CNN, show the driver's car being struck and it appears to almost certainly be before he hit the gas. I'm not saying he's innocent or guilty but to any unbiased observer it sure looks like there're questions about his guilt.

It really annoys me to read articles by "experts" who say the debt ceiling is a bad thing because it causes a crisis every time we hit it. What they fail to realize is that those crisis are miniscule compared to the ultimate crisis that the debt ceiling is designed to prevent. The true debt crisis is when we have too much debt, not when we fail to increase it. Anyway it appears that they raised it officially. Now I can start watching the debt grow again, yay! It'll probably be about 300 billion a month. I'm guessing they can't borrow it all back at once without breaking the bond market.

If the new debt ceiling expires Dec 15 I'm assuming they won't have to make a deal until 3-5 months later. This last debt ceiling suspension expired in mar so they made it about 6 months before running out of funds. I'm assuming 3 months is not enough time to replenish all the cash they used so it won't be as long this time around before they run out. I'm still confused about this. All the articles make it sound like a done deal, but it sounds to me like nothing is official yet. Can't the republicans turn around and offer Trump a better deal?

Just to set the record straight I think the idea that this was a big setup conspiracy is a bunch of silly crap. However, the actual murder case is very interesting to me. The amazing thing to me is that the initial hearing for the trial got delayed until Dec. 15 and even that information was almost impossible for me to find. I had to search the local Charlottesville news to find it. So the driver is stuck in jail, basically a political prisoner, until the trial, which appears to be at least 5 or 6 months away.

Thread needs more David Fincher fans. :) That said, I reckon that the primary reason why feature films in Hollywood are on a decline (domestically) is due to inflation. The rising costs of movie tickets (plus the foods, drinks, popcorn, and other snacks) are driving customers to cheaper alternatives such as Netflix, Redbox, and Amazon Prime. In addition, said examples of alternatives continue to refine (exclusivity such as Netflix-only movies like Will Smith's/David Ayer's Bright coming out - http://variety.com/2017/film/news/david-ayer-will-smith-netflix-bright-1202501947/) This is actually driving the corporation Disney into pulling their movies from Netflix in order to provide their own streaming services in the future - https://www.cnbc.com/2017/08/08/disney-will-pull-its-movies-from-netflix-and-start-its-own-streaming-services.html *HBO has done likewise. Moreover, I don't think that the quality of movies is actually an issue (at least a major one for casual viewers). Superhero movies are WAY better than they used to be IMO (Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, Russo Brothers MCU movies, and we now have crossovers which have been a dream come true for many superhero comic book fans) and although I'm not a fan of them it seems that top tier (in the eyes of many viewers) animated films are released every year (ex: Frozen, Zooptopia, Finding Dory, Minions, Inside Out, etc.). The horror movie "Get out" was widely praised when it released this year. Moreover, the horror movie "It" is supposed to be great. I'm personally not really into the horror genre myself but I am interested in reading Stephen King's novel that the movie is based on. I'll probably see the movie too.
