Article used the word "permit" (or a form of it) 10 times. That is disturbing. Wonder if I should contact that news outlet and give them my standard line about "permits." The government does not permit anything. They can only restrict. Also, government does not grant rights. They can call it whatever they like, but that does not mean it is technically accurate. Vocabulary and words are influential, which is why government uses the word "permit." "When words lose their meaning, people will lose their liberty." -- Confucius

Hughes was originally planning to conduct his experiment over Amboy, a ghost town situated along Route 66 in California, that has a population of 4. However, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) reportedly informed him that he cannot launch his scrap metal rocket on public land. According to Hughes, the federal agency told him his experiment was a no-go, but Samantha Storms, BLM spokeswoman, said she was unaware of any communication between the self-taught rocket scientist and the agency. "Someone from our local office reached out to him after seeing some of these news articles , because that was news to them," Storms told The Washington Post. “It's still happening. We're just moving it three miles down the road,” Hughes said. “This is what happens anytime you have to deal with any kind of government agency.” More at:

There is no such thing as "cyberbullying." There used to be this saying that went, "Sticks and stones might break my bones, but words can never hurt me." It means you have no control over a propelled rock breaking your arm. You do have control over how to respond to someone's verbal barrage. Bullying involves an element of force. It's a person forcing you to do something so he can have his way. No one can force you to do anything over a computer. You can--on a practical level--just ignore people on the internet. People like this SEEK your attention and your distress. If you respond with distress, then you have lost their little head game. It's like the people who would prank phone call. If they could not get a rise out of you, then they would quickly move on. The other option is to play head games with them. Most people who frequently play head games are not very good at it. They are often insecure. Playing your own head games will turn the tables. People today have thin skin. You can't control what people think of you. There is always someone who is going to have something to say about you. Who gives a f*ck. Be your own person.

President Donald Trump wants to put his stamp on the welfare system, apparently in favor of a more restrictive policy. He says “people are taking advantage of the system.” Trump, who has been signaling interest in the issue for some time, said this past week that he wants to tackle the issue after the tax overhaul he is seeking by the end of the year. He said changes were “desperately needed in our country” and that his administration would soon offer plans. More at:

The EU pledged to deepen ties with six former Soviet states Friday, as part of efforts to counter Russian influence, but warned them they had no chance of joining the bloc any time soon.EU leaders agreed a package of 20 "deliverables" with Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus to help them tackle corruption, improve the rule of law and modernise their economies. Brussels insists its so-called Eastern Partnership with the six states is "not aimed at any country" and a joint declaration issued after the summit scrupulously avoided any mention of Russia. As she arrived for the summit British Prime Minister Theresa May warned that Europe needed to be on guard against "the actions of hostile states like Russia which... attempt to tear our collective strength apart". EU President Donald Tusk fired a broadside at the Kremlin, condemning "Russia's aggression" in Ukraine after five soldiers were killed there and demanding vigilance agains hybrid threats in Europe. He warned "we have to be very, very cautious, vigilant and also honest -- if you want to protect ourselves, if you want to help our partners from Eastern Partnership, we have to first of all be aware of threats inside the EU." Yeah, that's a great one. Writer of the song, Peter Sinfield, said of the song, "Oh. Just one more thing. Some dimwit has written ‘a piece’ on Wikipedia claiming the song Ho! Ho! Ho! is about the commercialism of Xmas. I almost wish it were the irony would be a hoot, but its not. It is in general about loss of innocence and in particular it pictures the last real happy christmas I spent in 1950 with my mother, our house keeping ex high wire walker Maria & a candle of hairdressers. PjS 2009."

Moldova is seeking to establish closer links with the U.S. and NATO, with the announcement of a new security cooperation center opening in the former Soviet republic. The agreement was inked on Thursday, in a move that saw Moldova’s Prime Minister Pavel Filip stressing the country’s wish to strengthen ties with NATO following a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. Speaking to reporters in Brussels, Stoltenberg said the move was intended to: “support dialogue and cooperation between NATO and Moldova,” adding that the NATO alliance would “fully respect” the neutrality of Moldova. U.S. President Donald Trump has designated White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau until a permanent director is nominated and confirmed, the White House said on Friday. The action came hours after Richard Cordray submitted his formal resignation and named a deputy director as his replacement, setting the stage for a political and legal battle over the regulator's leadership. "The president looks forward to seeing Director Mulvaney take a common sense approach to leading the CFPB’s dedicated staff, an approach that will empower consumers to make their own financial decisions and facilitate investment in our communities," the White House said in its statement. Democratic lawmakers are eager to preserve the regulator for as long as possible while Republicans want to put in place new leadership to chart a drastically different course. The succession plan has never been tested, with Cordray as its first and only full-time director. Cordray had previously announced plans to resign by the end of November. In a statement to staff, he said that Leandra English, the CFPB's chief of staff, had been named deputy director and would take over as acting director of the agency upon his exit.

President Trump's much-derided Asian tour earlier in the month received widespread criticism in the mainstream media. What they won't report is that, like it or not, his visit is already paying dividends. Actually, despite the media snark, the trip was a big success from Trump's perspective, especially on trade. While Trump was conferring with Chinese President Xi Jinping, U.S. companies announced some $250 billion in deals with China — a clear sign China wants to open its markets even more. A more recent example was China's decision, announced on Thanksgiving, to slash import taxes on some 187 consumer goods. As Bloomberg News correctly noted, this move "promises to boost the prospects of multinationals in the Chinese market," in particular big U.S. consumer multinationals like Procter & Gamble Co. and medicine-maker Pfizer. Coming just weeks after his Asian trip finished, it counts as a major victory for Trump on trade. Indeed, Trump has loudly and consistently criticized China and others for not living up to their agreements to lower trade barriers. Last year, China's trade deficit with the U.S. stood at $347 billion. It has become a chronic sore spot in economic relations between the two countries. Nor are these just-announced tariff cuts small. When the cuts kick in on Dec. 1, they'll be sliced from an average of 17.3% to an average of 7.7%. More at:

“The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
