Jury members for a high-profile trial relating to Turkey's evasion of U.S. sanctions on Iran will not be named in court, a federal judge suggested Tuesday. Judge Richard Berman took the unusual step of suggesting concealing jurors' identities after noting that individuals involved in the case have been contacted by "third parties” seeking to interfere with the trial of accused Turkish sanctions violators. "I guess it's hearsay for sure, but I've heard of people involved in this case being approached inappropriately by third parties. And that even includes court interpreters," Berman said, implying that the individuals represented Turkish government interests. He added that he will refer such behavior "to the appropriate authorities" if it continues. More at:

Belgium's Gaming Commission announced last week that the body would be investigating whether or not loot boxes in games like Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Overwatch could be considered a form of gambling. Well the investigation appears to have reached a conclusion. According to VTM News the Commission has ruled yes, loot boxes are a form of gambling. According to a Google translation (via PCGamer), "The mixing of money and addiction is gambling," said Belgium's Gaming Commission. Belgium's Minister of Justice Koen Geens added that "Mixing gambling and gaming, especially at a young age, is dangerous for the mental health of the child." Apparently Geens wants to ban in-game purchases like loot boxes in both Belgium and abroad. He explained that while Belgian officials will have to go to Europe to enforce their findings, the Belgian government "will certainly try to ban it." More at: Words have no meaning anymore. How can it be gambling if you can't cash it out for money?

Belgium's Gaming Commission has already declared loot boxes to be gambling earlier today, but the state of Hawaii has announced that it too will be looking into what they call, "predatory practices in online gaming." Chris Lee, the Democratic State Representative of Hawaii, announced in a press conference that his office will be looking into legislation that could potentially ban games like Star Wars: Battlefront 2, and other games with loot-based systems. He cites the need to protect young children as part of why Hawaii is looking into loot systems in games. If Hawaii is successful, this could lead to a national political tide against loot systems in video games. "This game is a Star Wars-themed online casino," said Lee who specifically cites Star Wars: Battlefront 2 in his press conference. Specifically, Lee announced that Hawaii will look into the "significant financial consequences that on families." Referencing Star Wars' Admiral Akbar, Lee added, "It's a trap." It sounds that Lee plans on pursuing legislation to at least ban these games from underage consumers, though the full extent of the legislation has yet to be seen. More at:

A U.S. court case against a wealthy Turkish gold trader is a "clear plot against Turkey" that lacks any legal basis, Ankara's government spokesman said on Monday, ratcheting up rhetoric ahead of a trial that has strained diplomatic relations.Bekir Bozdag also told a news conference that the U.S. case was aimed at harming economic relations between Turkey, Iran and Russia. He said U.S. authorities were putting pressure on defendants, including the gold trader Reza Zarrab, to make accusations against Turkey. Zarrab, together with alleged co-conspirators, has been charged with handling hundreds of millions of dollars for Iran's government and Iranian entities from 2010 to 2015, in a scheme to avoid U.S. sanctions on Iran. He has pleaded not guilty and is due to go on trial in New York on Nov. 27. More at:

Saad al-Hariri attended independence day celebrations in Beirut on Wednesday after returning to Lebanon for the first time since resigning as prime minister in a broadcast from Saudi Arabia.Hariri, whose sudden resignation on Nov. 4 pitched Lebanon into crisis, flew into Beirut late on Tuesday. He stood alongside President Michel Aoun and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri at a military parade in central Beirut. Lebanese state officials and senior politicians close to Hariri say Riyadh forced him to quit and held him in the kingdom, which Saudi Arabia and Hariri have denied. The resignation took even Hariri's aides by surprise. A long-time Saudi ally, Hariri cited fear of assassination in his resignation speech, and attacked Iran and its powerful Lebanese Shi'ite ally Hezbollah for sowing strife in the Arab world. The resignation thrust Lebanon to the forefront of regional tussle between the Sunni monarchy of Saudi Arabia and Shi'ite Islamist Iran, which backs Hezbollah. Hariri's return to Lebanon followed an intervention by France. It is not yet clear if he will stick by his resignation or rescind it. More at:

Armed men in masks blocked off the center of Ukraine's rebel-controlled city of Luhansk on Tuesday in what the rebel leader said was a revolt by supporters of a sacked regional police chief. The tension in Luhansk did not appear to have any direct connection to the conflict between the rebels and Ukraine's government, but President Petro Poroshenko called a meeting of his security and defense council late on Tuesday. "The Ukrainian armed forces are ready for all developments to ensure the safety of civilians," Poroshenko said in a statement. The LNR's rebel leader, Igor Plotnitsky, blamed disgruntled supporters of Igor Kornet, his chief of police whom he said he had fired on Monday. "The attempts by certain elements in the interior ministry in this way to challenge the decision .... (to remove Kornet) have gone beyond the bounds of what is acceptable," Plotnitsky said in a statement on his administration's web site. "I can say with confidence that the attempts by certain persons to stay in power by destabilizing the situation ... are futile, and in the very near future will be neutralized." But Kornet said he was still in his job, and demanded that senior figures in the region's rebel leadership be prosecuted. "I want to dispel rumors that I've been removed," he said in a video message, clad in field camouflage. "We have the situation completely under control."

Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski said Tuesday she supports the repeal of Obamacare's individual mandate. The Obamacare individual mandate requires nearly all Americans to purchase health insurance or pay a penalty. Republican Senators have considered adding a repeal to this mandate in their tax reform bill. "Repealing the individual mandate simply restores to people the freedom to choose. Nothing else about the structure of the ACA would be changed," Murkowski said in an op-ed to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. "The only difference would be is (sic) if you choose to not buy health insurance, the government would not levy a tax on you." More at:

Thanks to an investigation by third-party researchers into Intel's hidden firmware in certain chips, Intel decided to audit its firmware and on Monday confirmed it had found 11 severe bugs that affect millions of computers and servers. The flaws affect Management Engine (ME), Trusted Execution Engine (TXE), and Server Platform Services (SPS). Intel discovered the bugs after Maxim Goryachy and Mark Ermolov from security firm Positive Technologies found a critical vulnerability in the ME firmware that Intel now says would allow an attacker with local access to execute arbitrary code. The researchers in August published details about a secret avenue that the US government can use to disable ME, which is not available to the public. Intel ME has been a source of concern for security-minded users, in part because only Intel can inspect the firmware, yet many researchers suspected the powerful subsystem had bugs that were ripe for abuse by attackers. Goryachy and Ermolov will present their research on an ME flaw at Blackhat in December, detailing how an attacker can run unsigned code in the microprocessor and remain invisible to the main CPU and any anti-malware software. ME runs on its own microprocessor and, as a Google engineer recently revealed, a modified version of the MINIX operating system.

The FBI is investigating Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Bob Brady for conspiracy, false statements and campaign in relation to payments his campaign allegedly made to 2012 primary opponent Jimmie Moore in order to persuade him to drop out of the race, court documents reviewed by The Daily Caller show. FBI special agent Jonathan R. Szeliga filed a search warrant request on November 1 in the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for all emails associated with Brady’s campaign email, Szeliga asserted he had “probable cause to believe that Kenneth Smukler, Robert Brady, Donald ‘D.A.’ Jones, Jimmie Moore, and Carolyn Cavaness and others known and unknown have committed violations” including charges of conspiracy, false statements, producing false records, causing false campaign contribution reports and violating limits on campaign contributions and expenditures. “The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
