Yesterday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to enforce the Hyde Amendment, reinforcing the prohibition of federal funds for elective abortions. This action underscores the administration’s commitment to preventing taxpayer dollars from being used to fund killing babies in abortions. The Hyde Amendment, first enacted in 1976, has been a longstanding policy barring the use of federal funds for abortions, except in very rare emergency cases. Trump’s executive order not only reaffirms this policy but also revokes previous executive orders that sought to protect access to abortion, thereby reversing this part of Joe Biden’s radical abortion agenda. In conjunction with enforcing the Hyde Amendment, President Trump reinstated the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits federal funding for international organizations that perform or promote abortions, like Planned Parenthood. First there were the Biden family pardons, then the pardons of the J6 political prisoners. Joining the latter now, though, may be another case where the unjustly convicted would be absolved from guilt. It’s high time, too, as this convicted party has spent almost a generation in the pokey of public opinion and pseudo-science. His name? Carbon dioxide — CO2 for short. The gas’ savior may be President Donald Trump, who has decided that CO2’s case deserves another look. At issue is a 2009 “endangerment finding,” in which the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), under Barack Obama, unilaterally decided the gas was a “pollutant.” (Never mind that it’s necessary for life’s existence.) But now Trump has ordered that this finding be revisited. More at: https://thenewamerican.com/features/following-the-science-trump-moves-to-pardon-co2/ Remember when the usual suspects told us Trump was going to institute Carbon trading? I remember.

President Donald Trump’s deputies are shutting down a semi-secret federal program that moves wage-cutting labor from Central and South America into American and European workplaces. The Safe Mobility Initiative sought to create many Safe Mobility Offices in foreign countries where low-wage foreigners could apply for visas to live and work in the United States and Europe. CBS News reported on January 23: The Trump administration is shutting down processing offices in Latin America that the Biden administration set up to give migrants legal immigration options and dissuade them from crossing the southern border illegally, according to internal government documents obtained by CBS News. The offices, established in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Guatemala, had allowed certain migrants living in or passing through those countries to apply for programs that would allow them to enter the U.S. legally. “The internal State Department documents said the Trump administration is ceasing operations … as part of a “broader effort to assess how the United States manages migration processes to serve U.S. national interests,” the report added. More than 30,000 migrants have been moved through the pipeline since 2024, via a variety of legal and quasi-legal routes, such as H-2A and H-2B work visas, parole loopholes, and asylum claims. The plan was the brainchild of President Joe Biden’s zealously pro-migration border czar, Alejandro Mayorkas, and Biden’s pro-migration Secretary of State, Antony Blinken. And that's when Richmond, a city whose metropolitan area has a population of about 1.3M people, ran dry. During the first snowstorm of 2025. Granted, Richmond is considered to be a subtropical region with generally mild winters, so 'snow' comes rarely , but outbreaks of frozen precipitation aren't completely unknown. But like most city residents, you expect utilities to be available. The water suddenly stopped running for many residents in the greater Richmond area on 6 January.

Guess again: Secretary of State Marco Rubio halted spending Friday on most existing foreign aid grants for 90 days. The order, which shocked State Department officials, appears to apply to funding for military assistance to Ukraine. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/01/24/state-department-foreign-aid-pause-00200510

I'm getting a vibe, and that's all it is, but I'm getting the sense that the people just aren't buying that shit anymore. Now, granted, your average American is as unyielding as a lasagna noodle and has the attention span of a gnat. We'll see, but so far, I'll happily eat crow on my comments in this thread and say I am pleasantly and unexpectedly surprised and pleased, so far.

The Trump administration has appointed a new Middle East policy chief in the Pentagon who believes the US should scale down its military presence in the region. Michael DiMino, a former CIA analyst, was sworn in early this week as the deputy assistant secretary of defense for the Middle East. Before taking the job, DiMino was a fellow at Defense Priorities, a think tank that calls itself the "hub of realism and restraint" and advocates for a less interventionist foreign policy. Jewish Insider reported that DiMino’s appointment has alarmed pro-Israel Republicans due to his views on the region. The report cited comments DiMino made during a webinar last year where he said the Middle East does "not really matter" for US interests. "Vital or existential US interests in the Middle East are best characterized as minimal to non-existent. And I think if you look at America’s experience as the primary security broker for the region… it has not rendered any lasting political, economic, or security benefits in service of US interests or the American people," he said. DiMino has opposed attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities and war with Iran in general and has repeatedly called for the withdrawal of US troops in Iraq and Syria, citing their vulnerability to attacks. When President Biden launched a bombing campaign against Yemen’s Houthis in January 2024, DiMino opposed it and suggested the US should consider putting pressure on Israel to improve conditions in Gaza since the Israeli onslaught was the reason for the Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping. "Any multi-billion-dollar effort to fight a war in Yemen would render no political, economic, or security benefits to the United States. Strategies like ‘buck passing’ and diplomatic engagement are perfectly viable, would do the US no harm, and could resolve the crisis. Continued military action in Yemen, by contrast, presents dubious prospects for success," DiMino wrote in Responsible Statecraft. Trump's newest pick in the Pentagon, Michael P. DiMino (@mpdimino) as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Middle East), might not be a household name to many (he was, after all, a former CIA analyst, so in the shadows by design, lol), but he is one of the most solid officials… pic.twitter.com/PNscwfnGN2

In a sweeping move that halts billions in spending, President Trump’s administration has frozen the Department of Energy's (DOE) activities pending a comprehensive review of its alignment with his priorities. According to a memo from acting Energy Secretary Ingrid Kolb, the freeze affects grants, loans, procurement, studies, and even personnel decisions, effectively bringing the agency’s $50 billion budget to a standstill. Beyond bureaucratic tinkering, the halt is a direct shot at dismantling Biden-era climate policies. The DOE’s Loan Programs Office, holding $41.2 billion in conditional commitments to energy technology companies, now finds its purse strings tightly cinched. Other critical missions, like nuclear waste cleanup and maintenance of emergency crude reserves, are similarly on pause. The order mirrors an earlier Trump directive freezing funds tied to Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act and a bipartisan infrastructure law, both of which allocated billions for clean energy initiatives. Trump, who has championed fossil fuels as a cornerstone of his energy policy, has made it clear that climate-focused spending is no longer a federal priority. The Interior Department issued a similar freeze on wind and solar project leases on federal lands and waters.
