A Dallas man was charged Wednesday with operating a large-scale human trafficking organization. Tremont Blakemore, 40, was charged by criminal complaint with sex trafficking through force, fraud and coercion; he made his initial appearance before Magistrate Judge Rutherford Sept. 11. According to victim statements detailed in the complaint, Blakemore — who goes by the street name “Macknificent” — may have trafficked hundreds of women across the United States between 2011 and 2018. Blakemore allegedly cultivated an “environment of paranoia,” demanding near constant updates from the victims he forced into commercial sex and doling out severe physical punishment from those he believed were “keeping secrets,” according to the criminal complaint. Victims said they were required to alert Blakemore of each illicit encounter as it happened or face grotesque abuse. “I’m going to make an example out of someone soon,” he wrote in a group text message to victims. “I will not continue to tolerate disrespect that’s one of my biggest pet peeves.” Blakemore allegedly set a quota of commercial sex proceeds — generally about $1,000 or more per day — and required victims turn all earnings over to him, either in bulk cash or via money transfers. He set the rates for various commercial sex acts, and occasionally lowered victims’ rates to flood out competition. “We need to be bringing in 100k a week,” he told victims in another text. “Those don’t like working need day jobs.” To enforce the rules, Blakemore allegedly slapped, punched, choked, and kicked his victims, and occasionally burned them with cigarettes.

Mosquitoes are more than just a pest – they can be downright dangerous carriers of disease. One of the most innovative ideas to control populations of the bugs has been to release genetically modified male mosquitoes that produce unviable offspring. But unfortunately a test of this in Brazil appears to have failed, with genes from the mutant mosquitoes now mixing with the native population. The idea sounded solid. Male Aedes aegypti mosquitoes were genetically engineered to have a dominant lethal gene. When they mated with wild female mozzies, this gene would drastically cut down the number of offspring they produced, and the few that were born should be too weak to survive long. Ultimately, this program should cut down the population of mosquitoes in an area – up to 85 percent, in some early tests. This of course means fewer bug-borne diseases, such as dengue, yellow fever, zika, and malaria, in humans. And since the offspring don’t live long enough to breed themselves, genes from the engineered bugs should stay neatly out of the gene pool of the wild population. The only visible effect should be the reduction of mosquito populations. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case. Researchers from Yale University have now examined mosquitoes around the city of Jacobina, Brazil, where the largest test of this technique has taken place over the last few years. Not only did numbers bounce back up in the months after the test, but some of the native bugs, they found, had retained genes from the engineered mosquitoes. “The claim was that genes from the release strain would not get into the general population because offspring would die,’’ says Jeffrey Powell, senior author of a study describing the discovery. “That obviously was not what happened.” The GM mosquito strain was developed by a company called Oxitec, and it had previously been given FDA approval for these kinds of tests. In the Brazilian case, around 450,000 modified males were released in Jacobina every week for 27 months, totaling tens of millions of bugs. To keep tabs on them, the Yale team studied the genomes of both the GM strain and the wild species before the release, then again six, 12 and 27 to 30 months after the release began. Sure enough, by the end of the test there was clear evidence that genes from the transgenic insects had been incorporated into the wild population. Although the GM mosquitoes only produce offspring about three to four percent of the time, it seems that those that are born aren’t as weak as expected. Some appear to make it to adulthood and breed themselves. While populations did drop initially, numbers did bounce back after about 18 months. The researchers suggest that female mosquitoes may have learned and begun avoiding mating with the modified males. Worse still, the genetic experiment may have had the opposite effect and made mosquitoes even more resilient. The bugs in the area are now made up of three strains mixed together: the original Brazilian locals, plus strains from Cuba and Mexico – the two strains crossed to make the GM insects. This wider gene pool could make the mozzies more robust as a whole.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) told a group that he backs a moratorium on all deportations from the U.S., a video surfaced on Saturday revealed. The socialist senator told a group that, under a Sanders administration, the U.S. would cease ICE raids and deportations. “We’re gonna end the ICE raids which are terrorizing communities all across this country,” Sanders said. “We are gonna impose a moratorium on deportations,” he continued. “There are some things that a president can do with executive orders.” ee 30-second attacking me for that,” Sanders warned before adding that he also supports providing illegal aliens with free college. “And then you’ll see another set of 30-second ads because when I say I want to make public colleges and universities tuition-free, that also includes the undocumented,” Sanders continued. “Now I hope that as soon as possible the undocumented will not be undocumented,” he added. “That’s the goal” More at: https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/09/14/bernie-sanders-we-are-going-to-impose-a-moratorium-on-deportations/

He is talking tough but he is deescalating things, notice that he said that verification was needed as opposed to Pompeo just assigning blame to Iran. There will not be a war, just like there wasn't after the drone incident.

No problem at all...I just wanted to weigh in, I thought the comment was too personal and combative, which can happen to all of us, I'm just as guilty. The fact is though, there are not enough of "us" to be at each other's throats.

See, the problem is not who cares about a bump stock, what it is or how it works. The precedent has now been set that, by Executive Action, the president can direct an un-elected and un-accountable regulatory bureaucracy to issue a fatwa that bans a firearm part (or anything else for that matter). President Sanders will come along and use that newly found "power" to "direct" ATF to declare that any magazine over 5 rounds is a "machine gun" part, for example. This will happen, and surely you can see the problem here.

Well, sure, that's part of it, but even as massive as government is now, it ain't a 100 million strong. I suppose we've crossed the Rubicon though, since now over half of all households are on some form of direct government handouts.

That's a fair and reasonable response. I think it is important to get out in front of this "trial balloon" and make it loudly clear that even to consider victim disarmament is failure. This is frustrating of course...there are supposedly 100 million of "us", meaning gun/liberty folks of all stripes. How is it that the Bolsheviks can put a million screaming communists and Jacobins in the streets overnight, and we can't get one tenth of that to show up and raise hell?

I'm sure he does, most all leftists do. It's because of privilege and racism and stacking the deck and keeping everybody else down that you made it. That's unjust. Strange how sticking a government gun in people's faces and robbing them is not unjust however. Hard work and deferred gratification and long range planning is racist.
