I am against a draft or a "limited military draft". Here is why.
The military is already over manned. Most of the mos, afsc, and ratings are total bs. I actually have respect for people who have a job that is combat related, but most are not required and can be contracted out. As for support jobs keep the bare minimum of people that might be required at a down range location.
From my experience in the military which was over 20 years ago most people don't do anything. I was in the USAF and most people who were worth a sh!t got out after their first enlistment. Career airmen were the worst, people are just trying to make it to 20 years to get a pension. Once someone put on E-5 game over. I remember a few times I worked on NCO heavy shifts. Terrible experiences the NCOs did nothing which sucked because on paper we had more manning. The workload then fell to everyone e-4 and below. I ran sh!t as a Senior Airman did the job plus paperwork then all of the sudden a Staff comes to shift and they just hide in the office. Maybe when a NCO comes to shift more paperwork is generated?
So yeah the military is over staffed. It should be more difficult to reenlist. The military needs people who are actually good at their job not people trying to make it to 20 years. Maybe someone has an answer for this, but what percentage of the military is on permanent profile and is non deployable?
