The province of Ontario banned private for-profit hospitals in 1973. So there aren't that many of them. Shouldice Hospital was grandfathered in under the law. So it still operates as a private for-profit hospital. As recently as two years ago, when the Shouldice family was attempting to sell the hospital to a corporation, some were arguing to block the sale and turn it into a public hospital. It operates with the single-payer system, but not under it. Foreigners are allowed to pay cash for their care. Bottomline, Shouldice is the exception to the single-payer system. Not the rule. Rand supports tort reform at the state level for medical malpractice. Not tort reform for deliberate violent assaults. Poor strawman argument.

Rand's positions have been very clear for the past several years. 1) He doesn't support intervention in other countries. War without approval from congress, sanctions, foreign aid, etc... 2) He doesn't support socialism. He doesn't approve of Venezuela's economy, but he doesn't support intervention in their affairs either.
