Here's a deep-dive on this paper for people who are interested. While Aschenbrenner is mostly just playing into the hype, he does raise a few valid points. Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that a lot more people need to start thinking about this issue a lot more. The public sadly confuses actual-AI with Hollywood-AI. Actual-AI is not Hollywood-AI (nor on a credible trajectory to it, yet) but that doesn't mean it's not dangerous. AIs don't think like us. If nation-states have already built strategic-scale AIs (and there is no reason to believe they haven't), the threats we are facing from AI are not like Skynet... they're a lot weirder than that. Already 4 years old, but everybody should watch this: Could Clown World be a symptom of a rogue AI, gone out-of-control? :frog:

This is why I don't like to debate "can anarchy work?" We already live under anarchy, doofus!! In fact, tyranny just is the failure mode of chaotic anarchy! Duh! The people who have hijacked the DC government are pirates. They are loyal to no flag (not even the rainbow flag). They are beholden to no law. They know no rules whatsoever. They are animals in human-suits, whether literally or metaphorically, it makes no practical difference. They might as well be lizard-people for all the difference it would make to their actual behavior. The first error in war is to not know who is friend and who is foe. The entire country has drunk the "DC is our friend" Kool-Aid, when it could not be made any more obvious that DC is a hostile, occupying power! The enemy is not "over there", the enemy is right here, on our turf. No, that is not code-speak for "Democrats". I have many relatives who are Democrats. They post the dumbest imaginable stuff on their Facebook feeds but they don't hate America. They're not very smart, and they're completely ignorant of all history before roughly 1980 or so (and even most of that seems to be a blur for them). So no, Democrats-as-Democrats are not the enemy and saying that just trivializes the actual enemy. The actual enemy truly hates America. The rah-rah-Republcans think of the US presidential election as though this is just a 4-year-cycle football game where we gotta psych ourselves up for "war". You're going out for "war", but the real enemy has a baseball bat and your name is Nancy Kerrigan. You're thinking "war"; they're doing actual war. WAKE UP!

All I can say is that you grossly misunderstood 90+% of what I wrote. The name Jesus of Nazareth -- the name of that specific, historic person!! -- is the offense of the Gospel. I thought that was completely clear from what I wrote but I can see from your response that I'm going to have to make my phrasing even more absolutely water-tight against any possible misconstrual. The Hebrew name Yeshua, etc. is not, in itself, the offense. There is an entire book of the Hebrew Bible about someone of that name. The point is that we (Christians) are not talking about some mystical, generic "Christ", as in the phrase "Christ-consciousness". No, we are specifically talking about the historical person (by name!), Jesus of Nazareth. It is he, in particular, that we proclaim Lord. We proclaim the Gospel which is that he is Lord of all, including the Jews. That is offensive to them, because they crucified him, see Peter's sermon in Acts 2, especially Acts 2:36. The name of Jesus is, indeed, holy.

I'm about 2 months late on this particular social media blow-up, but I thought I'd add some additional theological clarity on the issue. Bishop Barron gives a good introduction to the topic on Megyn Kelly's show: The purpose of this post is to address a subtler and more insidious dynamic that can slip past our notice if we are not paying particular attention to it: the phrase "Christ is King" simply means "Messiah is King". Note that any Jew can say this, because this is a core belief of Judaism: the Messiah (when he comes at some future time) is the (one and only) King. That a Jew can say "Christ is King" should alert us that something fishy is going on when Jews are also being very offended by this supposedly "anti-semitic" phrase. One phrase that secular or non-messianic Jews definitely can't say is this: Jesus is Lord. The New Testament clearly explains that the coming conflict at the end of the Age is going to be fought not over "the Messiah" but, rather, over the name of Jesus. It is the specificity of Jesus of Nazareth that is the kernel of offense to unbelieving Jews. As a lover of God and his people, I have no desire to amplify that offense but neither am I at liberty to minimize it. The offense of the name of Jesus of Nazareth, specifically, is the core offense of the Gospel to the Jews, because it is he they crucified, not merely a generic "Christ". I don't mean to say that "Christ is King" is intentional weasel-wording, it's not, but the devil's weasels know how to twist even our best intentions around upon themselves. It is important that we be completely specific and explicit: Yes, Christ is King, that is, Jesus is Lord! One of the key reasons the offense of the Gospel to the Jews is so critical is that there is coming a false-messiah -- many of them, in fact. This was prophesied 2,000 years ago by Jesus himself. Terms like "Christ-consciousness" might seem to a Christian to be talking about Jesus but, in fact, they are not. They are talking about a mysterious, unspecified, New Age consciousness or "presence", which they call the Christ-consciousness. It would be better termed AntiChrist-consciousness because it is blatantly opposed to the Gospel. The phrase, "Christ is King" is true, but let's not substitute "Christ is King" for "Jesus is Lord". They are both equally true, and affirming the one requires affirming the other. Either both are true, or both must be renounced. You can't have Jesus and "Christ-consciousness". You can't serve two masters.

Sure. But none of this is a surprise to us. Scripture prophesied from the very beginning that the church would be apostate, 2 Thess. 2:3. When I read this passage, it "seems" to indicate the church would have solidarity and unity until the very end, and then an apostasy would occur all at once. It appears from history that Paul actually meant that the church would be continually apostasizing, and there is also coming a Great Apostasy at the very end. This actually makes sense when you look at the history of Israel, which was continually idolatrous, right from day one, and was finally led off to the Babylonian captivity. Absolutely, the mere existence of the papacy is antichrist on its face. This can be seen from Matt. 23:9, "And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven." Protestants avoid calling anyone father, based on this verse, but I think that is a matter of conscience. The contrast being drawn here is not between a priest and the heavenly Father, rather, it is between a one-and-only "father" on earth, aka "The Father", aka "The Pope". So, it is the college of cardinals (and the rest of the Roman clergy) who are in error in giving the appellation to one, unique man, THE Father, on earth. Jesus told us we already have a Father, and he is in heaven. He is a spirit, John 4:24, not a human. I'm not going to fight you (generic) if you refer to your priest as father (spiritually), but to call one man, globally, THE Father, is blatant disobedience to the Lord's own command in Matthew 23:9. And no, the college of cardinals is not merely referring to the Pope as "father" (spiritually) in the way that a layman refers to their priest as father; rather, they are explicitly designating this one man as THE Father of the whole worldwide church, and they are emphatic that, from this title, he derives his imagined "authority" over the church. The entire construct is manifestly repugnant to the text of Scripture which is why Rome fought so hard to keep the Bible in Latin where only a very small minority of the population could read it, and that very small minority could be controlled from Rome by threats, bribes and, if necessary, murder. After the Bible became widely published in the vulgar tongues of Europe, the Reformation ensued immediately because any villager with the ability to sound out words off the page could directly see from the text that the papacy is apostate and antichrist. As for the "f*ggotry" quote, this is just a lame attempt to divert attention away from the blessing of gay-marriages. The Vatican is trying to spin around the Catholic conservatives with propaganda... "Well, I guess if the Pope talks like that behind closed doors, then he must not really be in favor of blessing gay marriages" even though that's exactly what he's in favor of, as proved by the letter permitting the blessing of gay marriages! It's really juvenile stuff, and quite transparent.
