My youngest attends first grade at a Waldorf school. There are lots of things we like, but there are also things that concern us. So we're looking at different options. Please provide any input you can. Option 1: Stay with Waldorf. Of the 3 options, this one is the smallest school. One class per grade. 15 minutes away. Roughly $10K. The teacher moves with the class through 8th grade (similar to homeschooling). It's very art-focused education and the extra-curricular education is impressive. They offer a "loving" environment with plenty of freedom and play. On the down-side, his main teacher is new so she'd be learning the material just ahead of the kids. They don't use textbooks so the material presented is more loose. They accept vouchers which means they get families that don't have to pay - which means they're not as invested in the outcomes of their kids. This means the kids are distracting the class and their parents don't recognize the problem. Also, there's a progressive vibe that runs through the school. Generally, it aligns with libertarianism, but when the parents discuss politics, it's obvious where they stand. Option 2: Catholic school. 2 classes per grade. 2 minutes away. Roughly $5K. It's a standard Catholic education, but reliable. People recognize what a Catholic education means. Catholic school grammar cannot be beaten. But we're not Catholic. I withstood 8 years of Catholic education and while I believe I came out educated beyond my peers, I also hated the religiosity. But saving $5K a year would be nice and it's right around the corner. The education is still above average and this school ranks high. They learned their lesson and no longer accept vouchers. But damn, I'm not sure I want them drilling him every day with their beliefs. I have no problems with him learning it - but I don't want the indoctrination. Option 3: Independent Day School. 3-4 classes per grade. 30 minutes away. Roughly $20K. We visited this school and were beyond impressed. LOTS of extra-curricular activities during and after school. It's well-established as a top-notched school and 96% of their graduates get accepted to their first choice high school. Not to mention the scholarships. It's non-religious and the families are generally well-off. No vouchers. Of the three options, this one encompasses the best of both worlds. Caring teachers in well-maintained state-of-the-art facilities. But at $20K for 2nd grade we'd be really pushing it. Sorry, junior, no you can't spend the summer in Europe with your friends... It also means an hour per day wasted in the car traveling to and fro. We've already eliminated the idea of homeschooling and (of course) government education.

Wow. Last night's double OT game 7 was one for the ages!! Pens vs. Preds. I'll take the Pens in 6. They're beat up and tired, but I think the repeat is in the cards.

The biggest upside? Our government is caught up doing this instead of working together to destroy our liberties. Let the branches fight!! I hope it goes a long time!!

Lol. We're getting it either way in case you haven't noticed. At least this has the potential to slow down their progress.

Maybe, but I'm still rooting for it! I did the same thing during the Clinton administration. Here's the thing: What would you rather have your government and media do? Fight amongst themselves or work together to remove more of your wealth and liberty? I know where I stand. None of them are talking about reducing government - only different ways to manage it. So I'll cheer on the in-fighting all I can instead of letting them "get back to the working on the business of the American people".

Lemme get this straight... Amash has neocon globalist roots, but Trump does not?! I'm really trying to keep up with all this.

Hey, as long as they're fighting amongst themselves... The worst part of this is that the media is going to get even bigger ratings. But at least it's better than getting an "infrastructure" boondoggle through or starting another war. (of course, if Trump learned anything from the Clintons, it's how to wag the dog. So maybe another war is a foregone conclusion at this point.)

Who said that?! Damn, you both are reading what you want to believe instead of what was said. If it's legalized, the same people who are using now, probably would continue. And some new people may try it. Basically, the same situation we're in today with it being illegal. Except minus the loss of liberty and wealth.

    1. What have your laws done to stop heroin use? 2. Trespassing and theft are crimes - you're conflating two different issues. 3. When you make criminals of an activity, only criminals can partake. So in order to use their drug, what do they care about violating liberty?? They're already criminals. 4. Who said I wanted them to have the freedom to pillage?! That's dumb. I suppose in your world, using heroin means you have to steal? 5. Your rights end when you try to force someone else to do something against their will - same place their rights end. Liberty, bro...

Really? You need laws to tell you not to use heroin? That's a pretty bold statement. Especially since heroin is illegal federally and in all 50 states and yet there is an epidemic. Somehow, those "laws" don't seem to be working for some reason. I suppose we just need more government guns, searches, longer sentences and less liberty. THEN, people will finally start listening to the laws. (you do realize they can't even keep drugs out of prisons, right? Where the government has 100% control and liberty does not exist?)

Not complex. You cannot "give" people freedom. You can only take it away. Freedom is the natural state if governance and oppression is removed. And who'd to say they don't take that rope and build themselves an escape ladder? Or maybe a lasso? To paraphrase Jefferson, I'd rather deal with idiots hurting themselves than idiots hurting me!

LOL You're ridiculous. Go away, you globalist troll and race-obsessed collectivist hack.

You're lying again, and your obsession with race is pathological and also boring. Go issue directives to someone else, you globalist troll.

That is a lie, and on Good Friday of all days. Your obsession with dragging race into so many conversations is getting real tired.

erowe1, are you seriously taking the position that cops are "innocent until proven guilty"? Or are you just messing with people here to see if they are parroting what they've been told without thinking about it?

Mind you, I'm not talking about the not-so-subtle "Let's lynch 'em" attitude. I tend to think that's a bad idea, even if I philosophize in weird directions sometimes (its part of my efforts to stay sane while surrounded by statists IRL, give me a break). But, there is a difference between saying "we shouldn't condone harming X for Y or Z reasons" and saying "X is actually innocent."

Note, also by "innocent" I don't even mean morally sinless, I just mean per the NAP. I'd honestly be shocked if there is a single cop who's been on the force for more than a week who isn't an NAP violator. Do you disagree?

I know you said you agreed with me that the sex = marriage argument is wrong, so you might want to get involved in this thread... I could use some help here as I don't know as much about this as I probably should.

I genuinely wonder how that would have gone over in my church. Probably not nearly as well.

Thanks for the sermon. Good stuff. I passed it on to my parents. My dad's a pastor so I'd love to see him converted to the view of Romans 13 that you take or a similar one.

Just out of curiosity, how well received was that message in your church?

Thanks. One of my brothers in Christ who I respect and love told me that a Christian man should spend more time with his brothers than people in the world. I was spending so much time on the forums with these unbelievers, and when he said that, I was extremely convicted. There is nothing like spending time with brothers who build you up in the Lord and sharpen you.

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your insight on topics like we just discussed. (existence, god, reality, etc) You give me much to mull over.
