@r3volution 3.0, Good eye. I grew up in Nebraska but he draws a blank for me (he wasn't acknowledged very often there, at least in my town). @Swordsmyth, Trump views Zuckerberg as 2020 opponent - Note: I would keep an eye on Chris Kennedy. The whole "Kennedy family" + "businessman" will probably appeal to voters, especially since the former isn't tainted like the Clinton, Bush, and (soon to be) Trump name.

r3volution 3.0, Yes. That said, with Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Mark Zuckerberg, and possibly Chris Kennedy. I reckon that Trump would be the least of his concerns.

Why ii it his job to do another person's work? If you have an argument you do the work to back it up. Otherwise you're just making claims without evidence of any kind- i.e. producing propaganda.

Why is anyone shocked? Trump has been knee deep in swamp mud since he became a public figure. He isn't changing, he is just demonstrating what he always has been- as at home in the swamp as a backwoods Creole cooking gumbo in the Louisiana Bayou.

AntiFa and Alt-Right arguing about who is worse are like twins arguing about who was born first. Also, since no legitimate Ron Paul supporters can be a part of AntiFa or Alt-Right, we should start a movement to piggyback on their popularity. We'll call it AntiFe in honor of Anti Federalist

@1stvermont, Anthony Johnson wasn't actually the first slave owner in America. African slaves were sold in the British colonies during 1634. The Casor lawsuit was in 1655. Another point: Colonist Samuel Maverick was a prominent slaveholder in Massachusetts. He brought slaves over in 1638.

What's the truth? I have a copy of Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs, and Steel" but have not read through it yet. Is his conclusive stance, "geographic luck", the answer? ďIn short, Europeís colonization of Africa had nothing to do with differences between European and African peoples themselves, as white racists assume. Rather, it was due to accidents of geography and biogeographyóin particular, to the continentsí different areas, axes, and suites of wild plant and animal species. That is, the different historical trajectories of Africa and Europe stem ultimately from differences in real estate.Ē - Jared Diamond

08-17-2017, 07:13 PM Chanced upon an article in the Australian Financial Review ("Red Robber Barons Back in the USSR" by Anne Applebaum). It is the same as this book review published in NY Times. The book being reviewed is Karen Dawisha's Putin's Kleptocracy. A talk by Karen about her book, below I also came across Padma Desai's letter to the Financial Timeswhich states clearly. Mr Putin remains an egocentric, authoritarian ruler. In the old days, the tsars ignored the nobility (boyars) at their peril. Leonid Brezhnev, leader from 1964-1982, had to deal with the politburo of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. By contrast, Mr Putin is an absolute ruler. The Russian legislature is his rubber-stamping body. Despite the amnesty measures, Russia remains a police state with widespread controls on internet activity and public meetings all unveiled under presidential executive orders. For some misguided reason I was relatively sanguine about Russia after reading relatively positive articles in newspapers/magazines over the years. Here's one that I randomly picked up from the internet. Moscow is supposedly a modern city. Padma Desai's talk in Melbourne a couple of years ago depicted a modestly positive picture. But after reading this book review, I wrote to her and she responded that she has not read the book yet. But she recommended I read her letter in Financial Times (which I've cited above). Clearly she has changed her stance re: Putin.

Stupidest comment of the day. Also, calling me a Leftist is a joke. I'm farther on the American Right than many on this website. Indeed, wanting to retain someone who you agree with in power -like say a judge- so they can force everyone else to do what you think they should do and enforce your vision of what the country should be- that is the very definition of a Progressive Leftist. Believing such would make you an actual Leftist. Further, ISIS uses political power to force their idea of how things should be on others. This guy wants to do the same. He is more liek ISIS than anyone else.

The dude literally said they were nutcases -like ISIS- and and then say they are the equivalent -as in EQUAL TO- ISIS. He didn't compare them to ISIS, he did saying they were "like ISIS," he said they were equal to ISIS. Let em ask you, if I said you were the equivalent of a Communist, what am I saying? Further, this is the same kind of a-hole who would probably give you 20 years for a joint because its "The Law." Stop trying to apologize for this guy's stupidity. It is embarrassing.

The man said, "The nut cases tearing down monuments are equivalent to ISIS destroying history." Anyone too stupid to realize that comparing anyone to ISIS is going to get his arse in trouble is probably too stupid to be on the bench. He also apparent cannot spell, which is another important aspect of a judge's position i would think: “In Charlottesville everyone is upset over Robert E. Lee statute (sic),” Hinkle’s post said, in part. “It looks like all of the snowflakes have no concept of history. It is what it is. Get over it and move on. Leave history alone - those who ignore history are deemed (sic) to repeat the mistake of the past.” His comments on the Tubman bill have the reek of partisanship if not down right racism on them. The man obviously cares more for his politics than impartiality and it is highly questionable that he would be anything less than another activist judge on the bench using the law to attack those he disagrees with. Stop trying to defend such a stupid person.

Turns out comparing people to ISIS makes it seem like your judicial impartiality is in question. I mean, how would we feel going before a judge who said libertarians are isolationist traitors? Probably like he was too biased to render a fair judgment.

People have the capacity to reason. You don't need to always show them the whole thing. A strong statement telling them that they are wrong is often all you need to do. Then they do the rest, at least when the other person can think.

If they're feeling like idiots, they will feel bad. Feeling bad makes people try to do something different to feel better. So they might just go ahead and think and stop being idiots.

Rand Paul Is not Ron Paul

by PierzStyx on 03-27-2017 at 12:30 PM
Here are some areas where they differ, even if slightly:

Russia: After Russia invaded Ukraine last year, Rand Paul called for sanctions against the invading nation. Ron Paul warned against that, saying it could sink the U.S. dollar.

The NSA: Ron Paul wants the National Security Agency eliminated. Rand Paul says he's more interested in reining it in.

NSA leaker Edward Snowden: Rand Paul thinks Edward Snowden should receive a light punishmentósuch as a
