How many engineers did Tupperware lay off in the US? What was the last innovation that Tupperware introduced, and when? Just honest capitalist questions. A patent only lasts for 20 years before it becomes public domain. If US companies don't set up production in Mexico using those expired patents, then China and India will set up production in their own countries (where labor costs are even less dear). What we should have done is set up some US tariffs on Chinese, Indian and Mexican Tupperware-like products. That would have kept Tupperware competitive in a worldwide market ... NOT. Tupperware was introduced in the 1940's. They started branching out to cookware in the 1990's. Nowadays, there's concern about microplastics. If you're concerned about carbon nanotubes in your vaccines, then surely you're concerned about micro-plastics in your cookware and food storage - because there's a lot more evidence for the microplastics than there is for the carbon nanotubes. Maybe US companies ought to be doing some innovation with ceramics instead of plastics. Afterall, innovation is what keeps the US ahead of the rest of the world - not factory production. I guess that makes me a globalist, eh? If you're not innovating, then you're stagnating, and your competitors will surpass you. Also, if you're a worker bee with third world skills, don't expect to be paid first world wages.

Well, of course, unless you're one of those Wednesday and every other weekend kind of fathers ... in which case you're the scourge of society (an emoticon is warranted, but I'll be damned if I know which one to use)

I don't know what the status is, in Ohio, on the bill to allow the Democrats more time to nominate their POTUS and VPOTUS candidates. The deadline for getting ballot access in Ohio is currently 90 days prior to the November election (which would be 07AUG2024); that is two weeks prior to the Democratic Convention. If the Ohio legislature can't agree to a new deadline that follows the Democratic Convention, then the Democrats are preparing to nominate their presidential and vice-presidential candidates via a virtual rollcall vote prior to the convention in order to meet Ohio’s current ballot deadline of 07AUG2024. I would have expected the Democrats to have worked out the process for this virtual nomination by now; but I haven't seen anything concrete on it. The most recent news blurb I have on it is from the Washington Examiner on 28MAY. Regardless, if Creepy Joe is stepping down, it'll have to be prior to the virtual rollcall vote sometime before Ohio's 07AUG dealine.

The information was expensive to come by ... LOL ... When my daughter was in college, I sent her to Paris for a semester and to Arles in the South of France for a summer. These days I'll get a couple of emails a month from her where the subject line is "Because They Are French" (the implied tone being that of Robin Williams)

Why would he? He was elected to his second five-year term as President in 2022. He'll be President until 2027. The snap election is for members of Parliament. Expecting him to step down because his party lost control of Parliament would be like expecting the US president to step down after his party lost control of Congress in a mid-term election.

I think one term presidents for the remainder of my life would probably be the best I could hope for.

So, of the candidates from the two major parties: we have one that's a convicted felon, and another that was born closer to Lincoln's presidency than his own.

But in reality, it’s not an issue at all … for one reason … the people who are doing it aren’t white. I hate to have to be the one to break it to you, kids; but non-white people can do bad things too.

I think they're New York State charges. Trump can't pardon those. He'll have to govern from Rickers Island.

I'm really surprised that SNL, Jon Stewart, Bill Maher or some other comedian didn't seize on a response to that straight line. We're talking about a porn actress here; the judge would need to have some pretty impressive equipment to gag her. But if Stormy was the one posing the question, then she probably already has the inside scoop on that.

In and of itself, that tweet is rather misleading. The jury has to reach unanimous agreement on whether or not Trump falsified business documents to cover up a predicate crime. What the predicate crime was is what Merchan told them they could disagree on, as long as they have unanimous agreement that there was some crime that an attempt was being made to cover up. I tend to disagree with Merchan on that; but I'm not conversant in the law on this. If the law is wishy-washy on whether the jury has to agree on the predicate offense, then I think there would be grounds to appeal a conviction (I can't imagine that the law would delve into jury instruction). It also strikes me that if there were more than a single predicate offense, then separate counts would have been brought against Trump for each of those predicate offenses. === Edited === Sorry; unnecessary post. acptulsa already covered that in his earlier post.

I don't exactly remember. But it wasn't scientific, it was an opinion.
