Nebraska Republicans lack votes to pass 12-week abortion ban I think what it amounts to is that they don't want a special legislative session this close to the November elections because it would energize Democrats and a high percentage of pro-choice independents.

It's even worse than Democrats spending money to get MAGA-Republicans (what they call the Grand Qanon Party <GQP>) nominated ... there are fringe Democratic groups urging Democrats to just outright vote for the GQP candidates in Republican primaries.

Let's see if wizardwatson can verify this, but I thought Kansas only allows people registered with the two major parties to cast votes for their own party's candidates in the primaries. Minor parties nominate their candidates at conventions. And Independents can only vote for party candidates if they switch their registration from Independent to one of the major parties. My understanding was that this was one of the major reasons that the Republican-majority legislature put this measure on the ballot in the August primary slot - they figured they outnumbered the democrats and that independents wouldn't show up. Botta Bing, Botta Bang, instant passage. Unfortunately for those backing the amendment, Independents showed up big time.

Bicameral legislation introduced by Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and Representative Mike Johnson (R-LA-04). The Unborn Child Support Act, gives mothers the ability to receive child support payments while they are pregnant. Whether a father is involved or not seems to be at the discretion of the mother. What about those fathers who want to be involved but the mother is refusing them that right? But there's also the flip case of fathers that don't want to be involved, and don't want to pay child support - I could envision cases where such fathers might intimidate/threaten mothers into refusing child support.
