Brother, I just don’t know. What I DO know is that anyone who truly believes any if this crap are perfect candidates for future Darwin Awards. The society we’ve built has protected them from that eventuality so far, but I believe that if they get the world they think they want that that would change in a damn hurry. Part of the problem is that Officers have two roles: 1) Collect evidence 2) Arrest Take away that 2nd role and these problems go away. Police officers should not have arrest powers. At least not any more than ordinary citizens. An unarmed traffic stop should pretty much never lead to an arrest. This whole idea that people need to be forcefully arrested and carted off to jail every time there's a goddamn misdemeanor has just gotten ridiculously out of hand.

I'm glad the Officer is OK - this could have turned out very differently, if the suspect was armed.

As a certified Level III Compliance Expert, I must admit it would have been difficult to comply in time with the Officers' initial request to "get on the ground". I will consult my peers on this, but I think the "best practice" in this situation is to get on the ground pre-emptively if you see a cop car slowly pass you by.
