So she thinks that saying there will "never, ever be another financial crisis" is "probably going too far?" The lady doth not protest enough, methinks ... Dj vu all over again?

Maybe. But not necessarily. My mom lives in a small town (less than 2,000 people). They have a "code enforcement" officer who even has a special vehicle clearly labelled "code enforcement." His job is to drive around looking for things to cite, like overgrown lawns. He's issued several warnings to my mom about her lawn. She thinks he's out to "get" her because my sister divorced his brother-in-law, but I think he's just "dong his job" (i.e., finding excuses to extort people). She really does let her lawn grow pretty high before doing anything about it, and I'm sure it really does violate whatever statute the town has for the purpose of generating revenue on that basis ... They also have a little MRAP-like thing - though it would probably be more accurate to call it an upjumped "tactical" jeep.

I think the problem here is that auto insurance is mandated in most (all?) places. The auto insurance companies know that you've got to have it, so they're under that much less competitive pressure. They'd be much more "price conscious" about things like the cost of repairs if they didn't have a guaranteed market. IOW: The problem is not with the insurance per se, but with the mandatory nature of it ...

When Dr.'s and patients get fed up they'll start going after the politicians. Problem is how many must suffer in the mean time? Better 10,000 junkies OD than one grandma suffer needlessly! Get government out of the drug business.

A civil war over painkillers rips apart the medical community and leaves patients in fear https://www.statnews.com/2017/01/17/chronic-pain-management-opioids/ For Thomas P. Yacoe, the word is terrifying. Leah Hemberry describes it as constant fear. For Michael Tausig Jr., the terror is beyond description.

Will People in Pain Suffer Because of FDAs Scary Opioid Warnings? https://www.peoplespharmacy.com/2016/03/24/will-people-in-pain-suffer-because-of-fdas-scary-opioid-warnings/ The FDA has followed the lead of the CDC in cautioning doctors about prescribing opioid pain relievers. Short-acting narcotics will now come with boxed opioid warnings about misuse, abuse, addiction, overdose and death. Longer-acting narcotics already come with such boxed warnings. Short acting or immediate-release opioids include drugs like codeine, hydrocodone (Dolagesic, Lorcet, Lortab, Norco, Vicodin) or oxycodone. These drugs are fast acting and ease pain for four to six hours. Long acting narcotics include methadone, levorphanol and controlled-release formulations of oxycodone (OxyContin), oxymorphone (Opana ER), fentanyl (Duragesic), methadone (Dolophine) and morphine (Avinza). The effects can last from eight to 24 hours or even longer.

http://freedomisobvious.blogspot.com/2017/06/the-method-of-rule.html It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood. ― James Madison My knowledge of history is far from complete, and while I do not know when men began employing the Method of Rule by Policy, I do know that the Romans used it. The Method fell from common use after Rome's fall, but appears to have regained popularity with the rise of the so-called "nation state". The kings of yore were typically ill-educated and generally lacked a sense of long term, all-encompassing strategy to ensure their legacies survived the ages, despite the efforts of some to establish perpetuities. Therefore, their dynasties rarely lasted beyond a very few generations. It was not until the rise of the nation-state, which corporatized governance, that governmental "dynasties" began to stabilize over many generations with the potential to continue in what for all practical purposes is perpetuity. The Roman Church is perhaps the preeminent example of the potential for longevity of well managed corporate governance. The Third Reich is an equally good example of what happens when such governance loses its way, or comes against forces it cannot resist, despite seemingly very promising beginnings. The Soviet Union and Red China are examples of how flagrant tyrannies are able to accomplish endless horrors and maintain themselves for extended periods well beyond the span of an ordinary lifetime. As is typical in basically all cases of political power, governance becomes corrupted in one way and degree, or another. The motives are as numerous as the stars and though we may generously assume the best of intentions, the propriety of the plots driven by such intentions is rarely very good.

The Trump support is very real. Don't listen to some of the idiots in here spreading nonsense and not knowing the dynamics of the game. Trump wins especially if high turnout or comes in a very close second in Iowa. He blows everyone out in NH and SC as of today.

Wish it were so but reality is reality.
