    Homily from last week- @fisharmor This week, some notes from the homily: -bickering over opinions should be avoided -look for things to fight for instead of about -actively try to serve/love someone daily No major mistakes during chant this week, but my solos weren't nearly as good as I would like them to be. :( I've found that when I assume the role of choral bass section leader during liturgy, my section sounds a lot better-so I'm going to be doing that from now on. :cool: Good thing I always remember my reading glasses nowadays-the sheet music at the chanter stand and at the director's stand in the loft is ridiculously tiny. :P #kurwa Gospel: Luke 1:1-25, 57-68,76,80 Epistle: Romans 13:11-14:4

    So what you're saying is, you support border checks 100 miles away from a border. That's the example I gave when I said unrestricted movement is a human right. You took exception to that, even calling it "babble", and in the process, you came out 100% in favor of these border checks.

    If some group claiming a monopoly on law is going to attempt to lock someone up in a rape cage, or potentially execute him, then yeah, it's kind of on them to make sure that person needs to be raped/executed. The founders weren't stupid. This was written in there because they knew the whole point of having a monopoly legal system is to rape/execute people, plus a bunch of things we today would consider bona fide torture. I think they were generally more morally centered than people today and wrote that in there for no other reason than as a hindrance to torturing/executing people on a whim. And let's stay on target here with rights: It is a human right to serve as an attorney without eight years of education and passing a bar exam. If law as a profession was free, and if people who wanted to be lawyers had rights, then legal fees would be dictated by markets and therefore a fraction of their current cost... which would invalidate much of your concern.

    Unmolested travel is a human right, one that the bulk of this site would disrespect at every turn just to keep the "political culture" which currently believes it's ok to force Christian bakers to provide products they find objectionable, and also currently believes it's perfectly acceptable for people to be executed by the cops for not following orders. Let's forget for a second that this is the exact "political culture" that we're supposed to be preserving, and focus on the fact that few people here have the slightest idea what a right actually is. Rights are inherent to humanity. They are not dependent on location. They are not contingent on what scrap of land you were born on. If you do not support all humans having the same rights at all times and in all locations, you do not support the idea of rights. You are instead supporting the idea of state-distributed privileges. Another right that precious few people here actually believe in is the right to keep and bear arms. Yes, the brown people from down South who don't speak English and clean hotel rooms for a substandard wage have a human right to arms, as well. The governments in their homelands are some of the only entities to have less respect for this right than you do.

    I was refusing to use "impact" long before this "ask" thing showed up. I actually tell members of my team that "impact" is a handy way for people to remain voluntarily ignorant of when to use "affect" vs "effect", and when you use it around me, you are proclaiming this willful ignorance. I haven't figured put how to insult them into not using "ask" as a noun yet.

    Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and we all have free will to live our lives the way we want. However, I have to say, it makes me sad to see so many obese people in the US, who have all sorts of health problems and are taking tons of medication, which profits certain industries who don't care about getting to the root of the problem but only treating the symptoms. Also, if it's true that the epidemic of obesity affects everyone's healthcare costs, then I don't think it's something that should be promoted. I'm not sure why anyone would argue with that. I believe that all people are equally valuable. But obesity is a big problem and since it can lead to many health problems, it's not something that society should treat as normal / healthy, imo.

    Swiss gun ownership: one of the perks of maintaining a healthy, national identity, while remaining cosmopolitan, liberal, and rather open.     HAHA! I just saw your post in another thread (I was catching up on forum drama) about Mr A putting me on a leash. I don't think he would do that to me if he could. Even though he complains about my oversharing sometimes (not on the forum but IRL. I'm not good at filtering), he knows I'm a good girl and despite my outward personality, I'm a surprisingly solid and committed person underneath.
