I would love for lower performing high school students to have the option to get out of school faster and without advanced courses. They didn't learn how to read, write, or calculate in primary school....what are they supposed to do with Shakespeare, Algebra 2, or Physics?
But yeah this is just another reason why me and mine homeschool.

You're preaching to the choir on this one, brother. It is, as you correctly note a feature, a feature of government at all levels, in fact. Expecting government, at any level, to protect you is hopelessly, childishly naive. It is not intended to do so, nor was it ever. And yet, many people, even around here do expect just that.
The Kiwico STEM subscriptions look pretty cool (for the youngsters). Thinking about doing that for my son. But I'm also the uncle that buys the boys all silver eagles.
