This is the discussion happening now in the industry. It's nuts. For personal cars, EV's drive about 60% of the miles of an ICE vehicle. (think about that for a minute - it's a 2nd car for most people who own one. They pay full price for 60% of the miles) They're counting that as a benefit, but more and more, they talk openly that "we" need to move around less. More public transportation. More walking and biking. But more importantly, more staying at home. It's for the Earth, y'know!!

(Timestamp is wrong in your typing, but correct if you click the link.) It must be noted that investor-owned utilities have an obligation to serve, regardless of the power requirements. It's just a matter of how long it will take to build. For the case of commercial EV charging depots, the demands are HUGE. So, it will take years of planning, then permitting, then construction. A typical large industrial site could take 3-8 years to get it energized, depending on where it's located on the grid and the available Tx capacity. And that's if the materials for the substations are readily available and there is space. Now, if you have multiple sites in the planning stages simultaneously, they complicate themselves because the planners are not looking at single transmission lines, but rather system-wide impacts. This will take decades. To Elon's point, he's right that the system is built to the peak demand. But he's selling Tesla batteries as the solution. That's even MORE expensive than just increasing the amount of generation. There are lower cost storage solutions (like pumped hydro), but there would still need to be a revolution in grid spending to accomplish this feat. You're talking about doubling or tripling the capacity of a 130-year old machine - the electric grid - in a few years??? Not gonna happen. Patti and I are acquaintances (we connected years ago when she was at Consumers Energy - she had John Mackey's book Conscious Capitalism on her shelf and we struck up a conversation). Remember that her job now is to please the institutional investor community. Her engineers are more reasonable.

Did you know that Argentina is 85% white? My Argentine friend told me that, unlike in America, when the European waves came in they decimated the indigenous population so they wouldn't have to deal with them. The cities and language were established during the time of Spanish conquistadors which is why they still speak Spanish, but the majority of the population originates from Italy, Russia, and yes, Spain. Anyway, I thought it was interesting. (also interesting is that they were also 85% white when they were ruled by socialist dictatorships. Meaning that you can't blame darker complexions for that line of thinking.)

Yeah, I don't get it. We are in a battle of ideas, not personalities. The people of Argentina voted for our ideas over the cronyism of government power. And yet, when our ideas win, they want to change the conversation into a battle of personalities. We have a winning message. There's a lesson there. Regardless of whether or not the messenger is perfect.

Sure thing. My friend has worked in senior positions in the energy industry for decades. Mostly in S. America, but in the US as well. He lives in Florida, but still votes in Argentina. He sees how the US press is calling him "far right" so that was his first remark to me. He said that in the US left and right mean something different. Here, both parties agree with capitalism (lol - yeah right! I didn't correct him) but in his country, there are full on socialists and anyone mentioning the free market is considered far right. The socialists there, according to him, are still opposed to private ownership of property. And anyone who thinks private property should be acceptable is cast as a greedy capitalist pig. He said that Americans have no concept of dictatorship, but his country wasn't able to even vote until he was in his 20's (early 1980's). I should note that my friend is smart and very successful. He knows economics, including Austrian. However, he considers the Austrian model a little too simplistic for the modern world. I didn't spend time discussing that much. We talked about Milei a few months ago when he first popped up on our radar. Back then, he didn't think Milei had a chance (which kinda colored my view on it as well). Now, though, he's hopeful that he's successful. I told him I was shocked that TPTB would allow Milei to win, and he said that Argentina is too small for them to even care about. I told him with their copper, manganese and lithium deposits, they WILL care. We'll see... was a good conversation. I'll check in with him from time to time to check on things.

I talked with my Argentine friend today and got more context. Milei wasn't his first choice, but when the runoff came and his opponent was the sleaziest politician he could imagine, he went for Milei. (Originally, he was concerned that Milei was just a showman and was interested in increasing his celebrity status.) But already, Milei is making big waves. He plans on levelling with the Argentine public in early December to let them know how bad things really are. He's warning everyone that the transition will be swift and painful with no half measures - but when the country emerges out the other side, they will be freer and more prosperous. His plan involves privatizing most of the services being run by the government and selling off the assets to pay down the damage done by previous administrations. Here, the results of his plan to privatize the national oil company: Argentina oil company YPF spikes 40% as investors cheer president-elect Milei's promises to revamp the economy https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/argentina-oil-company-ypf-spikes-40-as-investors-cheer-president-elect-mileis-promises-to-revamp-the-economy/ar-AA1kfAfV

One thing I've noticed in about every one of these vids I've seen is the total lack of any attempt to defend themselves or fight back on the part of the victims. It seems like most of the time they just attempt to back away, go straight down, curl up and take it. Also, the attackers usually come in flailing about like a 3 year old throwing a tantrum, not exactly MMA fighters moving in for the kill. A heel palm to the nose, jab to the throat, thumb to the eye or even a good old fashioned kick in the nuts might be enough to end a lot of these scuffles if the victims would just stand up for themselves. In my experience, nothing ends these things quicker than the attacker winding up in a bloody heap on the floor, preferably with a couple of his buddies going with him. Or maybe I'm just behind the times. Just seems to me to be yet another manifestation of the results of vilifying even the knowledge of self-defense.

The question was not about Ben Shapiro being a libertarian. I don't see anybody saying he is. It's not even about whether he's on the right side most of the time or the wrong side most of the time. It's about this weird mindset of keeping however many degrees of separation from him that you two apparently want to keep. You don't just not support him, you refuse to support anyone he supports, regardless what his reasons for supporting that person may be and regardless what reasons you might have to support this other person. It all boils down to that one litmus test. Nobody with that kind of mindset could possibly have supported Ron Paul for president, given the diverse supporters he had. And that kind of absolutism won't stop there. Now, if some other libertarian runs for something somewhere, if Milei supports them, that will prove to you that they're not really libertarians either, because if Milei supports them, and Shapiro supports Milei, they simply can't be any good. And so on ad infinitum.

Thats great. I hope whatever you two learned sticks forever. We're really struggling financially and of course we have other problems, but we're together, pretty happy and have faith that it will be OK.
I forget where you went. Can you tell me about the place? I also wnt to know (if you want to tell me) where you took her on date night. On our date night we went out to dinner and had some horrible conch fritters. NEVER AGAIN on conch fritters. But then we went out to a bar on the beach, and took a moonlight walk. Wound up nekked making love on the beach and got caught by a couple walking by. Allin all it was a great trip. Our's was in Delray Beach Florida.

I do not think your wife would have any problem finding a nursing job up here. My sister-in-law is going back to school just so she can become a nurse and she plans on moving here from Florida, that was the reason for her career change. They have visiting nurses. There are lots of good hospitals like Dartmouth Hitchcock.
