Has anyone read this Sinclair Lewis classic? I highly recommend it. Everyone talks about how 1984 is the instruction manual. But politically, this book is all that and more. Look at the part I bolded. How to destroy a republic? Give publicity to the communists all out of proportion to their numbers, then sell fascism as the only thing ruthless enough to stop it. You have to give up your freedom to save it. It's the stupidest sentence ever formulated in the English language. And here we all are, watching the idiots all swallowing it hook, line and sinker.

I'm sure it works a damned sight better than any new four-wheeler electric sold in the U.S. because legally, it's a motorcycle. Therefore, no air bags, no monster bumpers that absorb jogging-speed impacts, no side door guard beams, no... Well, the list is very long. But those three items have already saved somewhere between 500 and 1000 pounds.

They aren't so great at hauling freight. But I think they should be brought back for passenger service, for the same reason passenger trains were streamlined. No, not because steamers cut through the air better. As an employee of either the Union Pacific or the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy said to someone who was asking about the finer points of slicing through the air in 1934, streamlining wasn't about wind resistance. It was about reducing customer resistance. You aren't the only person who doesn't much ride trains, but just might if there was a steam-hauled sample handy. What this has to do with Dodges I'm sure I don't know. But I like to share that theory.

These apologists don't seem to care about Congress. They don't even adhere to Nixon's, "If the president does it, then it's not illegal.". They figure that does apply, but only to Republican presidents.

No, dannno, I'm not. It's a ridiculous straw man. I'm not questioning whether the president can declassify material, nor whether he (or she) should be able to. I'm merely asking a tree-falls-in-the-woods question. If he declassifies something and doesn't tell anyone, is it declassified? Do you believe in the rule of law or don't you? I hope you don't go around self-identifying as a libertarian, because you love power much too much. Either everyone in government goes on treating it as secret, which is yet another terrible waste of taxpayer money, or they try to guess what he declassified and let him choose who gets prosecuted or not. Why? Because he's the only person in the world who knows what is, and what is not. And what about historic research? Yes, you may research this history, and keep the citizenry informed. Only you can't, because no one knows that, and won't let you see it. There is no other point I can see to secretly making something not secret but to selectively entrap people. None. So, why are you fervently defending Trump's right to engage in entrapment?

Of course, some of us rather like coal-powered vehicles. It's a funny thing that those who despise coal-powered vehicles the most have the least clue if they're riding in one or not.

Oh? So every department with classified materials sent someone to help him pack? They knew what was carted out was declassified, but they knew not what was carried out. Therefore, they didn't know any of the things I suggested they just might need to know. Einstein. You're not even trying to think this through. You're just grasping at excuses for your golden calf.

That depends on your point of view. Is a generator with its shaft connected to the flywheel a real transmission? Most gearheads say no, no. But any real railroader says yes, yes.

That's what you get for promising to drain the swamp, and then going all swampy. He could have released stuff like that. He promised to release stuff like that. Instead, what? He wanted to set up his own blackmail network? He had his chance to cut the puppet strings and put the marionettes in jail, but instead he tried to grab the strings so they'd dance to his tune? The untouchable Alpha Very Stable Genius overreached, and failed. Not a selling point. Someone who couldn't foresee this move isn't even a competent checkers player.

The thing we don't want to be the case any more is the rather obvious fact that even when they lose, they win. I'll let you in on a little secret: I vote a lot. I vote in every Republican primary. And after I've tried and failed to help Republicans put a conservative on the general election ballot, well? At that point, what's the point?

So, let's declassify something and not tell anyone. Let's keep the fact that it's no longer secret a secret. I can't tell you if it's classified or not because whether it's classified is more classified than it is. What possible purpose could that serve but entrapment? That, or getting Chinese spies off the hook. Oh, I like this spy for China, so I'll say that hasn't been secret since I was president. But that one never gave me a bribe Christmas present so the fact that the secrets they gave to China aren't secret will remain my little secret. After all, nothing says Fiscal Responsibility like having thousands of federal employees guarding something they might as well email to Alex Jones. It's asinine.

My personal story (pt2)

by CaptUSA on 02-24-2016 at 09:57 AM
Among my many interests was electricity and I decided that I wanted to change how the industry operates. Understanding the free market as I did, I was pissed that the coolest discovery in the history of mankind was being regulated to death by the government. I wanted to change that.

I found a job as a part-time temporary meter reader. My girlfriend went ballistic that I was quitting a salaried job for a part-time temp job, but I had complete confidence in what I was doing. Meter

My personal story (pt 1)

by CaptUSA on 02-24-2016 at 09:55 AM
I’ve never used this blog feature before, but since people have wondered (and asked) about my personal story, I figured it was best to do it in here rather than the forums.

It may come across as anecdotal, but I assure you that this same type free market story is working itself out all over the country and the globe. Even in the face or increasing government interference.

I was born in Western PA the third of four boys. When I was still a baby, the second child died
