Ron Paul also retired before Trump came into office. Mark Sanford's principled got him booted out of office once he got the ire of Trump. Let's not forget that Ron Paul brought home the pork to his constituents even though he voted against the bills.

If the majority of Americans thought like us, then Ron Paul would have been President.

Don't misunderstand me. I am not disagreeing with his principles. I call him the only good Congressman left for a reason. However, I'm also realistic enough to know that voting against this is potentially political suicide. People are scared. Scared people do not vote rationally and the voters can sometimes have long memories.

Which other "no" vote has he taken that would be comparable to this one?

I don't disagree. However, will his constituents find him brilliant at the ballot box?

Massie is quite possibly committing political suicide by doing this. He will not stop the bill and he will change very few minds. He is the only good Congressman in the House. I hope he knows what he is doing.

There is a distinction. There are entire books written on the subject, including Jack Greene's The Constitutional Origins of the American Revolution. As am I. Everyone quotes the Constitution or uses it to bolster their arguments. I am doing the same by sourcing the history of ratification. Look, I'm an an-cap. All rights are property rights. A property owner gets to set the terms of use of his property. If he allows the free flow of ideas, then he is exercising his property rights. If he disallows the free flow of ideas, then he is also exercising his property rights. That is what I would like to see of society.

Congress does this each and every day. The federal court system protects their unconstitutional actions. In a centralized and nationalistic state, there is no recourse for the people. That's not what the Founders/Framers designed. If you want to stray from their vision, that's a valid argument. There is nothing in the Constitution which prevents them from leaving, I agree.

There is a difference between constitutionalism and The Constitution. The former existed in the colonies since their formation. Self-determination and constitutionalism are still important ideas for Americans. I have little admiration for The Constitution. I'd rather have seen the Articles of Confederation stay intact. However, since we are stuck with it, we ought to be using the arguments and rhetoric of its proponents to inform us on what the Constitution outlines. In that regard, its still relevant to talk about it as something more than a dead letter. Ah, you are arguing against something I've never claimed. At no point have I ever stated that "we can't have free speech." You are being disingenuous. What I have been arguing is that the Constitution does not authorize the general government to regulate speech. That's it.
