I thought your counterpoint was plain and clear, as to a reason why dollar unit use is up. Rising DXY has shown it lately. DXY is merely a measure of supply and demand of a currency. What the chart doesn't account for is that gold is shooting up in tandem with the dollar, which is usually an inverse relationship. So what does Sowdry's chart, along with DXY rising -and- gold rising tell us? It tells us that a dwindling supply of dollars are being used to buy hard assets around the world. Aka dollar dumping.

Seems like markets know SHTF is soon. The DXY is mostly just a measure of supply and demand for the dollar. Lots of demand for dollars in order to convert (dump) them into hard assets like metals and real estate. Seeing them both rise quickly simultaneously is a really bad sign. The friday slam down of metals was entirely because of SLV and GLD going too high for Citadel's max pain options prices to handle. Citadel would have started a gamma squeeze on GLD and SLV if metals kept rising. The rise should resume this coming week and I wouldn't be surprised to see a +$100 on gold and +$2 on silver day to make up for the artificial slam down friday.
