They don't care - because proof doesn't matter. Power > Proof.
Outside the vacuous homilies of grade-school civics class textbooks, if you don't have the power to force a presentation of proofs, then it doesn't matter what proofs your adversaries do or do not have. But if you do have the power, then things should never have gotten to that point in the first place.
And in any case , politicians (like everyone else) will believe whatever their preferred narratives tell them to believe, regardless of any recitations of facts (or any presentations of proofs erected upon those facts).
Even in those cases where you and your adversaries are more or less equal in power, with neither able to exercise sufficient power to prevent the other from effectively requiring a presentation of proofs.
