You could replace the words 'environmental' and 'healthcare' with 'immigration' and your sentence could read the same.

The end result of immigration restrictions with the people currently in Congress will be mass implementation of TSA screenings on highways, among other atrocities.

It keeps tracking west. If it continues to do so, it may well skirt the Florida mainland as it has Cuba and make landfall further up north.

Has Krugman written anything on this, or has he been continuously masturbating for the last 48 hours?

For those wanting to reach non-libertarian or even left-wingers, Matt Yglesias penned an article during the Sandy relief efforts that take the correct position: http://www.slate.com/articles/business/moneybox/2012/10/sandy_price_gouging_anti_gouging_laws_make_natural_disasters_worse.html

Because devil21 doesn't think that political judo or gloming on to mainstream movements is an effective vehicle for change, especially in the current societal climate, he wants to give up and do nothing? That's an interesting conclusion, and not very different from when leftists claim free marketers want children to buy heroin while working in sweatshops when we oppose . As for the original post, it's interesting that Gary Johnson was castigated for wanting bakers to make cakes against their will by some of the very same people losing their minds over a service declining to provide ad revenue or web services for clients they deem undesirable. Freedom isn't going to come from any political movement, and this is a shining example of why that is. Even libertarians and smaller government advocates carve out exceptions to their stated beliefs, whether from a blind spot or an attempt to shift the cultural milieu in their direction. Libertarians' ad revenue, or protectionism, or immigration restriction is another person's public schooling, minimum wage, or drug laws, or military expansion. And they vastly outnumber us. Christ, there are libertarians protesting price gouging during natural disasters.

The Goldwater movement turned into the Reagan Revolution. The Ron Paul Revolution turned into Donald Trump. It's getting worse with time, and at an accelerated rate. Political judo has been tried and it has failed, multiple times.

The current political narrative and climate won't be changed if Rand reprises his last run. The establishment isn't going to back him unless he fully sells out (and even then, why not just back someone who has been with them for years or decades?), in which case every one of us would be gone, and the anti-establishment isn't going for Rand unless he sheds his whole persona for 2020 - and those who value consistency would be suspicious of such a change, anyway.

Merely being better than Trump isn't going to bring Ron supporters over to Rand. Many of whom were attracted to Ron not because of his libertarianism, but his contrarian, anti-establishment position in the GOP. Those people didn't join up with Rand, and neither did the establishment of the GOP; expecting Rand to do any better against a sitting president in his own party without those types is a fool's errand. If being better than Trump is the standard, you might as well throw your support behind whatever schmuck the Libertarian Party will nominate this cycle.

Yes, he was better than Trump. However, merely being better than Trump isn't reason enough to support him in a primary challenge. He needs to be radically different for enough people to attach themselves to his candidacy.

Not if he's going to support creating new nations and arming other established nations, like last go 'round.

Trump's opposition to Iraq was exposed as wishy-washy at best, non-existent or over a year late at worst during the primary, he raised the 'Iraq is a mess because we left too soon' neocon canard during the debates, and his support for overthrowing Gaddafi resurfaced as well. If Raimondo feels betrayed, he should look in the mirror and point the finger at himself.

I may just be tired. I don't generally care what people think, but being considered crazy by pretty much everyone gets exhausting after awhile.

I'm disappointed WRT your comment in my rep. I didn't know that about Rand. Disappointing. One more reason for me not to be thrilled, I guess. What would Rand's proposal accomplish? I mean, if security procedures were left up to the individual airport that might be a significant improvement (although I think even better would be to leave it to the airlines) but as long as DHS is running it, how is that helping anything?

I wish I could ask Rand Paul that question. I do really want to know what he's thinking.

WRT: Coercion, yeah, I get what you're saying, and technically what you describe would be coercion, but I wasn't really thinking along those lines. I guess "aggression" was the word I was looking for.
  4. your inbox is full....was trying to let you know that I found another source for the Jones story. I have no idea if this site is any more credible, but it does collaborate the story LE posted:

It's from an essay Ron Paul wrote called "The Political Importance of Murray Rothbard"here's a tinyurl to the source on books.google.com. http://tinyurl.com/3le98og
  9. There's often different discussion on the two forums, figured I'd see which took off. My threads don't show up on the home page list, for whatever reason.
