I've come to the conclusion that the alt right, and Trump supporters in general, are more driven by fear and desperation than actual hate. Probably the worst states from which to make decisions that could affect the lives of hundreds of millions of innocent people, but they don't seem to be too concerned about that, as long as they can feel that false sense of safety and security.
Both sad and pathetic.
I also remember reading about it in one of James Bovard's books, but don't remember which one and am not inclined to look. Believe whatever you want. An armed population ONLY acts to deter tyranny if it is combined with the WILL to use those arms if necessary. Don't see a lot of that kind of will among modern Americans.
I got an interesting call this morning from a group soliciting my signature on a petition to, in their exact words, "prevent the state legislature from overriding the Governor's veto of a dangerous gun bill that would allow anyone to SHOOT TO KILL in public places." (Emphasis mine)
According to the NRA, the bill:
The bill doesn't go nearly far enough in the direction of liberty, but those lying sacks of shit are still making it sound like an apocalypse in the making, as usual.
Iraq, under Saddam Hussein, was among the countries with the highest civilian gun ownership in the world. Something like #7 if memory serves. High civilian gun ownership doesn't even come close to guaranteeing that a brutal dictator won't seize control and keep it.
Still not worried?
Sorry but this is just bullshit. I live in a small city of over 200,000 people. We currently have 3 competing waste disposal companies. Rates are very low, service is excellent, and there are never any strikes or other problems that are routine in areas where the government handles waste disposal. As usual, the market provides necessary services that are cheaper and of much higher quality than government ever could.
You'd think. But then, considerig what's been going on around here and in the country at large lately, I'm thinking that very few people give a flying fuck about liberty, or justice, or even simple decency toward others. How fucking depressing is that?
"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Anti Federalist again."
Sorry Bro, but I can't +rep you again yet. I heartily agree with both you and tod evans on this. If we're going to have voting, tax ticks should not be allowed to vote. Ever.
Just the state performing one of the functions it was designed to perform, namely, plundering the many for the benefit of an elite few. And, as usual, since they're easier targets because they're less able to defend themselves, it's the it's the weakest and most vulnerable who suffer the most.
But hey, we really need the state because ... muh roads.
"All initiation of force is a violation of someone else's rights, whether initiated by an individual or the state, for the benefit of an individual or group of individuals, even if it's supposed to be for the benefit of another individual or group of individuals."
