More than 90% of all meat comes from factory farms, especially chickens and pigs, which is something like 98%. But I'm not even going to argue the health aspect of eating "healthy "meats. If you think it's healthy to eat a dead body, you do you. In my view, it is still merciless, cruel and unnecessary, whether the animal was "free range" or raised in a factory farm. We've been over this before many times, and I really don't have the time right now to go over this in-depth again. Even if the Bible was not tampered with, it is undeniable that God's concession in regard to meat eating was not his original design/ perfect will. Just as divorce, polygamy, and numerous other things that God tolerates in this fallen world were not his original design. Should Christians aim for God's perfect will or God's permissive will? It's not just my opinion that the fallen angels taught mankind to eat animal flesh. A number of early Christian writers talked about that, but as I said earlier, there was a big division in early Christianity, and the carnivore side won out. There are whole books written about this, it is a big topic, not one that we can cover in a few paragraphs on a message board. Also, there are tons of verses that clearly state that God does not like animal sacrifices, including at least one that says he did not require them.

Honestly, this is the first time in my life I've ever wished I could vacation in Hawaii. I'd love to go see what it's like to be on the island when the volcano is erupting. I read an article where an old guy was bemoaning the effect on tourism. He said in the old days, people would fly in just to see it. They'd buy postcards and burn the edges by dipping them in hot lava, then mail them off to friends. Now everybody is afraid.

I dislike Bill Nye, and I don't buy into the global warming hysteria, but I do want to reply to one thing right now, because whoever wrote this article is showing some ignorance. We are artificially breeding them into existence, for the sole purpose of using/eating them. When the demand for animal products decreases, the number of animals brought into existence will decrease too. This won't happen overnight, but it will happen (gradually), it's just basic supply and demand.

^ I think there has been a lot of subtle indoctrination in kids movies and TV shows, for a number of years now. A couple years ago, I was doing some nanny work after school for a friend… and I absolutely could not believe the stuff that was aimed at kids. I think that many parents are simply too busy to even notice that, so kids often end up watching movies or TV shows that are designed to indoctrinate, and some of it is really bad. I also believe that there's a spiritual aspect to this. The enemy targets children, I guess the strategy is getting people when they're young. Maybe it's just getting more blatant and obvious now? When I had that part-time nanny job, I always tried to change the channel or get them to watch something else. That ended up causing problems with the older kid (a girl) who probably thought I was crazy for thinking that the shows she wanted to watch were bad news. It even caused problems with my friend (her mom) who said she trusts my judgment, but since she has different spiritual and political views, she didn't fully agree with my take on it, and probably thought I was overreacting. Maybe if she hears about this movie, I'll be vindicated about what I was telling her a few years ago. I should tell my sister about this too, because evidently it is getting more blatant, and busy parents often are oblivious to this sort of thing.

The other alternative is meta-data analysis, which I remember hearing about in the late '80's. Retailers would analyze the shopping habits of all their customers, and then "guess" what items they would be looking for next and would make suggestions to their catalog customers. I remember being surprised at how random the suggestions seemed. So if you're browsing with cookies and all turned on, and we assume that all our credit/debit purchases are recorded as well, it's possible that the suggestions you see are targeted to you based on what they think you're going to be looking for, even if you don't even know you want it yet.

Well, I think that on paper, it disregards humanity. It assumes that everybody will choose to work for a common good, that the bureaucrats will always make exactly the right decisions for that common good, and that the common good is indeed the greater good. Reality, which capitalism addresses, is that people are greedy. And that what's good for you might be bad for me.

Apparently it is beyond you to distinguish between the government and the people running it. The fact (and it is indeed a fact) that the sanctions were not against the country and/or the populace doesn't mean a damned thing to you. You are now literally hallucinating a fictional reality in order to avoid the truth of the matter, which is that your beloved socialism always ends up with the socialists in charge looting the populace. FFS, Chavez's daughter is now far and away the wealthiest person in the country. Obama put the sanctions into place to try to prevent specific individuals from taking their loot and fleeing to America while avoiding broader sanctions against the country which would harm the populace. This just yet another entirely predictable failure of socialism, and face it: you were wrong again. There were no sanctions against Venezuela. Long paragraphs of speculations won't change that.

And charity should come from individuals, not the CIA. But their leader won't allow that. This is exactly why socialism always fails in reality. On paper, it's a great plan. In reality, the psychopaths have all the power. The allegation that this is a CIA orchestrated failure is as crazy as Firestarter though.

You know, I was going to write out a reply to this, but there's just way too much to get into. Whole books have been written on this topic, so it's not something that we can adequately cover in a few paragraphs. I mentioned this before, but I'll say it again. There was a big division in early Christianity, between vegetarians and meat eaters. There is plenty of very compelling evidence that Jesus' brother James and a number of the disciples were vegetarian. Since the student can't be greater than the master, I think it would be very odd if Jesus was not a vegetarian, and I believe that for a number of reasons. You may think this is crazy, but it is argued that certain passages were inserted in order to portray Jesus as carnivorous. That wouldn't surprise me at all, especially when the Bible itself states that lying scribes changed things. And when you consider that the heart of God – a heart of love, mercy and compassion – does not go along with putting ones tastebuds first, above the life of an animal who wants to live. But again, there's way too much to this topic, and we are already way way way off the original topic.

Swordsmyth, you're much smarter than this. Let's make this as simple as possible. Which one of these is more demonic: a) exploitation, violence, torture and killing, for selfish reasons… Or b) loving, valuing, and protecting all life? Please answer honestly.

Swordsmyth, I've noticed that you are either ignoring or quickly glossing over numerous points I've brought up, but then you keep throwing up the same handful of scriptures that meat eaters always use. If you're not going to take much time to address the things I've said, then I'm not going to take the time to go over each of these points you brought up. There are certain things that are undeniable. God commands us to be merciful. God commands us to love and treat others the way we want to be treated. You can argue that he meant that only for humans… But God created the animals too, they live here with us. We treat our dogs and cats like members of our family, we love and cherish them. Why would you apply love, kindness and the golden rule to your beloved dog, but not to another animal who is equally as intelligent and emotional? The Bible states that God's mercy extends to all creation. So why do we limit our mercy only to cats and dogs?

I'm sure you know that it's logical fallacy to dismiss a claim based on a person who states it. And that was just one example, the article talks about a number of early Christians who wrote the same thing, including Josephus and others. Not to get too off topic here, but many people do not know that there was a big division in early Christianity, between vegetarians and meat eaters. We know who won out. But again, we're getting into other topics… And since this originally was a thread on eggs, I'm not going to get into all that here and now.

We're really not though. In fact, that may the reason (or one of the reasons) that after the flood, the lifespan of man went down from several hundreds of years, to only 120 years, and then down from there. And now, things like cancer, heart disease and other illnesses are near epidemics… We are clearly not living the way we should be living. Perhaps we should go back to how God originally designed us? Also, here's a video to watch:

Do you really believe that God would endorse killing and meat-eating shortly after saying the exact opposite? God does not change, if He designed us to live in peace and harmony and nonviolence… Why assume that all the sudden he did a complete turnaround? First of all, it was an offering or gift, not quite the same thing as the animal sacrifices you have mind. Secondly, the word that you are hinging your entire argument on, the word translated as "fat", does not automatically mean what you (and many others who grew up eating meat) assume it means. I'm going to post an excerpt from an article on this passage, and I will bold some of the pertinent parts. However, some early Christians such as the Montanists apparently thought Abel offered the dairy products of his flock: In the second century the African Montanists were sometimes called the "Artotyrites" because they added cheese, instead of wine, to the bread in the Eucharist on the ground that the Aquarii, and first men offered the fruits both of the earth and of their flocks (Gen. iv. 3, 4). http://www.wpl.lib.oh.us/AntiSaloon/print/wine.html

That is one study, I could show you hundreds of studies that show meat is linked to numerous health problems. Also keep in mind that many of those "studies" which say animal products are healthy are funded by those very industries. Also, it should be pointed out that the protein or other nutrients that you can get from animal flesh you can also get from much healthier, cruelty-free plant-based foods. In fact, that is where the dead animal got his protein from… Plants. So you're getting those nutrients second-hand. Why not just cut out the middleman and go straight to the original source? I know the answer to that. :) Because we all grew up eating hamburgers, steaks, etc.… And we love those things, and it is extremely hard – incomprehensible, even – to consider giving those things up. But actually, it is not hard at all when you have that lightbulb "aha" moment after seeing the reality of what the animals go through. The horror of it, to the point of it being almost diabolical. And what for? Not for survival, but to satisfy our selfish personal desires.
