lol this is too funny. So far the points made have been: No new countries Also no fewer countries (i.e., we've achieved optimal countryness) Only the current number of countries (and especially the US as currently constructed) can sustain RG's pet projects of global security and trade Those who would wish to leave the US must not be allowed to do so and are quite rightly slaves to the rest of the world (one would then assume that in RG's fevered mind, expatriation must not be allowed, either. Thus he implicitly advocates for an American police state with closed borders... or in other words, he wants America to become North Korea)

AGAIN, THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH SECESSION AS A PRINCIPLE. You're making absolutely no sense at all. None of this is any kind of an argument against why secessionism isn't a legitimate goal of the liberty movement. NONE.

Your implication is that if a certain segment of the American population wishes to withdraw from the US government in order to establish a government in closer proximity to their physical being and in closer proximity to their moral center and as a consequence the US government is in some capacity less able to provide all of these ancillary "services" (e.g., "keeping trade going", security, etc.) to a host of non-citizens (all outside of the US government's charter, I might add) that they are acting unjustly somehow. You're relegating those people to a position of slavery. You understand that, don't you?

Just wanted to quickly draw attention to this: So, here's how things went; First Republicans betrayed us by refusing to fight the "Assault Weapons" ban in the first place. Their excuse was that they needed to reserve their political firepower to oppose the Brady Bill, which they knew was coming up.

I hear you, brother. It hasn't gotten any better since then but people still insist on playing the same old political games and hoping against hope for that savior to ride up on his proud white steed and save them. If that doesn't change nothing else will.

Probably Claire Wolfe's most famous essay. Definitely one of her best. https://billstclair.com/lodge/E_LandMines.shtml Later Claire discovered that she'd been in error regarding the health care law and posted this correction:

Apparently, unless you're willing to bend over and TAKE that Hellfire Missile while waving an American flag, singing Lee Greenwood and cheering both Donald Trump and a judicial decision that calls the "state secrets privilege" "absolute," placing it above the fundamental rights of individuals, well then by Tru, er, I mean God you must hate America. Who knew?

AF, brother, I have nothing but respect for you in spite of some serious disagreements on various issues, but please spare me the whole "poor victimized Donald Trump" riff. We see that more than enough around here and it's just as much bullshit coming from you as it is from any of the others. Trump appears to be moving toward pulling out of Syria. Great. Let's hope it's for real. However, consider these facts: Over the past year Trump has said he was pulling us out of Syria 4 times, and promptly failed to do anything of the kind the first 3. And what is he actually doing this 4th time? He's moved troops from one part of Syria to another where he says he intends to leave some at least for the time being. The rest of the troops he says will be withdrawn TO BE REDEPLOYED IN OTHER PARTS OF THE ME. Notice that not a single troop is coming home and mustering out. Not one. It amounts to merely moving pieces around the board so far. At the same time he's sending THOUSANDS OF ADDITIONAL TROOPS to Saudi Arabia. And overall troop numbers throughout the ME have increased by something like 14,000 in recent months. Reagan championed the liberty destroying War on Drugs. Trump has done much to facilitate the expansion of the domestic police/surveillance state, and to aid and abet the efforts of gun grabbers nation wide.

Not to worry. I'm sure that from here on out only the "right" people will be put on "kill lists" for summary execution.

The "state secrets privillege" is absolute. But the fundamental natural rights of individuals, rights. that are supposed to be beyond the law-making power of government, are not. I woke up on Bizarro World today, didn't I?

So I'm not sure what should have happened, then... seems like there were 3-1/2 obvious choices: 1. Leave 50 +/- soldiers there to end up in the middle of an invasion from a NATO ally 2. Reinforce them with more troops to quote-unquote discourage an invasion by a NATO ally (which also puts the US in the position of potentially finding themselves in a conflict with said ally) 3. Move the 50 +/- soldiers out of the way of an invasion, but still in the neighborhood 3.5. Move them the hell out of their and back home with their families

Oohkay... that's a no, then. Sorry I wasted your and my time. Moving on... So again I reiterate that secessionism seems like a very open piece of intellectual territory for this movement to take.

Public education. Just like the rest of the country. The State has taken control of educating the young and moved the Overton Window consistently to "the left". Also, California, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Illinois... these states have one thing in common in particular that have caused them to shift further to the left than most of the rest of the country, and it isn't immigration. It's large massive urban centers that dominate their political dynamic. Large urban centers tend left because of 2 reasons - 1., high concentrations of people tend to result in lots of rules and regulations and, 2., "educated" people tend to seek the jobs that are available in those places, which brings us back to the original point: public/government funded education.
