I think a lot of that has much more to do with the facts that:
1) Back then women actually put forth an effort to BE attractive, and
2) Nowadays a great many women try very hard to be UNattractive.
If you add to that the fact that the attitudes and beliefs held by many women today tend to render them unattractive regardless of any pure physical beauty they may possess, and well…
Clearly they lacked sufficient tariffs to protect domestic agricultural producers. Allowing all that free trade was no doubt a major causative factor in the wars with the indiginous peoples that came later. Fortunately we know better nowadays.
In bold. It’s really just that simple. Why so-called “liberty advocates” have so much difficulty with that simple truth, well, it really is discouraging.
Seems like a mix to me.
Some of “them” want to make money off of us.

Some of “them” want both.
Then there are our own “allies” who, in many cases, are no better as they trip all over themselves to aid and abet some or all of the above.
Appears to be following in the footsteps of old J. D. Rockefeller Sr. who often expressed his sentiment that “competition is a sin.”
