This is probably going to be an unpopular take, but I feel for this young man. Of course I feel for his victims more, and abhor what he did. But for whatever reason, he did what he did and now his life is over, too. I think we have a tendency to imagine these guys as blood-thirsty demons who sit in prison and giggle about what they did for the rest of their years. Maybe in a case or two, that's accurate. But I think most of them are horribly troubled, and in one way or another had their minds destroyed or damaged, and in most cases through no fault of their own. What they did is horrible, but I don't believe this kid was born a demon. I think he was made into one, and I doubt he embraces it. I pray for his victims and for him.

I don't think YouTube will have to go quite that far. That functionality already exists on a per-video basis. (The White House, Disney and others already disable comments altogether on some of their videos.) Then again, they could have allowed disabling the publicly visible dislike count on a per-video basis, too. But instead, they made it universal and non-optional. Obviously, that's because disabling the dislike count on individual videos would just draw attention to the fact that the dislike count was being hidden. By forcing it on everyone, they provide cover to the ones who actually want to conceal how much their content is disliked. On the bright side, by doing this they are just applying hermetic sealant to the cracks in their echo-chamber bubbles. As a result, they'll just make themselves even more obliviously lacking in self-awareness than they already are - and that isn't going to end well for them. New metrics may also evolve. For example, a high subscriber count with a low view count is often used to indicate mockworthy content. Perhaps a low like-to-subscriber or like-to-view ratio will serve the same purpose.

Videos and GIFs of cute animals — usually cats — have gone viral online for almost as long as the internet has been around. Many of the animals became famous: There’s Keyboard Cat, Grumpy Cat, Lil Bub and Nyan Cat. Now, it is becoming increasingly clear how widely the old-school internet trick is being used by people and organizations peddling false information online, misinformation researchers say.

Official: Michigan boy discussed killing students in video https://apnews.com/article/shootings-michigan-4e1a14622ed8c5a6bcc7e8da88e3c33d Corey Williams & Ed White (01 December 2021) OXFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a 15-year-old boy charged in a shooting at a Michigan high school recorded video night before violence in which he discussed killing students. The revelation was made by Oakland County Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Willis during a court hearing for Ethan Crumbley. Crumbley is accused of killing four students and injuring seven others Tuesday at Oxford High School. He’s charged as an adult with murder, attempted murder and terrorism causing death. Willis made the comments shortly before Crumbley was to be arraigned.

Speaking of which, check this out: https://twitter.com/ColumbiaSIPA/status/1464265198269775876 1464265198269775876 Harris and Buttigieg were among the first to drop out of the 2020 primary (in fact, Harris was the first), due to their utter lack of: (1) charisma (a tatty, soggy dishrag has more), and (2) support from Democrat primary voters. I don't see how these two clowns end up as the 2024 Democrat ticket, especially given (the reasons for) the debacle the Democrats seem to be headed for in the 2022 midterms. But if they somehow do, then apart from serious shenanigans, I don't see how they fail to get absolutely pasted by Trump or DeSantis or whomever the Republicans run.

To me, this is just the grifters getting pissed off that someone else is dipping their bill. Yeah, the guy is a crook. But it's funny to me that the state is offended by his crookery.

Just to be clear, my own remark had nothing at all to do with any supposed "fraud" related to taxes & taxation (though I confess I am not much inclined to argue with anyone who wants to put that particular spin on the issue). Regardless of what one may think of the propriety of taxes & taxation, the "COVID relief" system is fraudulent in and of itself. It's a scam, a con-game set up and operated by politicians. bureaucrats, and their assorted cronies. There would be no need for any such "relief" if those same politicians, bureaucrats, et al. had not inflicted and enforced a system of various lockdowns, mandates, etc., for the sake of enriching themselves and acquiring yet more power and control over others - and this "COVID relief" angle is just one part of the larger scam of the whole COVID regime that has been erected to the same effect and for the same purposes. It's a classic case of the government breaking peoples' legs, then giving them crutches and declaring, "See? If it wasn't for us, you wouldn't be able to walk! Now give us some more money so we can help you with your other leg ..." If that's not a confidence game, then nothing is. So, yeah. Regardless of whether one thinks taxes are "legitimate" or not, all those responsible for giving this guy all that "COVID relief" money should, at the very least, share cells adjacent to his - and for the same reasons.

The Woke Defense Contractor Raytheon adopts critical race theory and tells employees to acknowledge their “privilege.” https://www.city-journal.org/raytheon-adopts-critical-race-theory Christopher F. Rufo (06 July 2021) Raytheon Technologies Corporation, the nation’s second-largest defense contractor, has launched an “anti-racism” program that promotes critical race theory, rejects the principle of “equality,” and instructs employees to “identify privilege”—or else. Beginning last summer, the program, called Stronger Together, encourages employees to “becom an anti-racist today.” Raytheon CEO Greg Hayes supported the campaign by signing an Action for Diversity & Inclusion statement, promising to “promote diversity” and “cultivate meaningful change for our society,” then asking all Raytheon employees to sign the pledge and “check own biases.” Beneath the platitudinous public statements, however, the Stronger Together program relies heavily on critical race theory and manipulative pedagogical techniques.

The Woke-Industrial Complex Lockheed, the nation’s largest defense contractor, sends key executives on a mission to deconstruct their “white male privilege.” https://www.city-journal.org/lockheed-martins-woke-industrial-complex Christopher F. Rufo (26 May 2021) Last year, Lockheed Martin Corporation, the nation’s largest defense contractor, sent white male executives to a three-day diversity-training program aimed at deconstructing their “white male culture” and encouraging them to atone for their “white male privilege,” according to documents I have obtained. The program, hosted on Zoom for a cohort of 13 Lockheed employees, was led by the diversity-consulting firm White Men As Full Diversity Partners, which specializes in helping white males “awaken together.” The Lockheed employees, all senior leaders in the company, included Aaron Huckaby, director of global supply chain operations; retired Air Force lieutenant colonel David Starr, director of the Hercules C-130 military transport program; retired Air Force lieutenant general Bruce Litchfield, vice president of sustainment operations; and Glenn Woods, vice president of production for the Air Force’s $1.7 trillion F-35 fighter jet program. (Lockheed Martin did not return request for comment.) At the beginning of the program, the diversity trainers led a “free association” exercise, asking the Lockheed employees to list connotations for the term “white men.” The trainers wrote down “old,” “racist,” “privileged,” “anti-women,” “angry,” “Aryan Nation,” “KKK,” “Founding fathers,” “guns,” “guilty,” and “can’t jump.” According to the participants, these perceptions have led to “assumptions about white men and diversity,” with many employees believing that white men “don’t care about diversity,” “have a classical perspective on history and colonialism,” and “don’t want to give away our power.”
