When listening to Newsweek's 2022 interview of this guy, which can be found here, it just seems really sad. He really honestly seems to believe that, out of the blue, Russia just decided one day to invade Ukraine for no reason other than that the Russians are evil. It reminds me of the Two Minutes of Hate in 1984 where people just hate because they are being told to hate, and they don't look beyond what they are being told.
Our government overthrew the democratically elected government of Ukraine not once, but twice. We install U.S. puppets who then severely oppress ethnic Russians who have lived in the Donbas for centuries. Some ethnic Ukrainians moved to the Donbas in later years for jobs in their industries, however, that land had always been lived on by ethnic Russians. After the U.S. backed 2014 coup, people in the Donbas voted to join Russia. Putin said 'no'. But, with time, as he watched ethnic Russians being harmed in the Donbas, he eventually did ask for a federalized State where the Donbas could have some sort of autonomy within the larger Ukrainian State. And throughout all these years of war, Putin held out an olive branch and called upon the West to end the war and negotiate a peace settlement. Minsk 1 talks, Minsk 2 talks, the Istanbul talks, etc. etc. It was the U.S. and the U.K. that stopped the peace negotiations every single time.
It's sad that this man has gotten it so wrong. He honestly believes the MSM propaganda about this war. And he doesn't realize that we're headed for nuclear war if Washington is not restrained. The Russians know their history. They've been invaded by France once and Germany twice. And they understood the discussion with James Baker after the fall of the Berlin Wall to mean that NATO would not put bases one inch east of Germany if they withdrew troops. Then we immediately betrayed them and began the NATO expansion eastward starting with Bill Clinton. NATO troops are now right on Russia's border. And during the 1990s when Russia was most vulnerable, she was basically raped and taken advantage of by both Oligarchs from Russia as well as the West. The life expectancy of the average Russian during those years decreased dramatically. Bill Clinton had a lot to do with Yeltsin getting in to power.
Mainstream media is incredibly powerful. It's sad it doesn't use that power to actually do honest journalism.
