Yeah, that's not a bad example of how they work the propaganda. Humans are mostly herd animals, and propagandists are sheep dogs. Divide and conquer. College graduates buy the bull, and you want to appear educated, right? Democrats buy the bull, and you don't want to sound like a Republican, right? Dubya couldn't even put together a coherent sentence, remember? You don't want to sound like him, so buy the bull. Now we'll lop off the outliers and look at the data again. Lone wolves may be the only ones who know the truth, but isn't sticking with the herd more important? So we'll just say lopping them off the edges improves the data. Here's a fine example of the 'Safety In Numbers' propaganda the populace is bombarded with daily: A classic example. It all seems like such a reasonable little piece of sarcasm to hear thirty-six times a day, seven days a week. Be effective! Stick to your half of the herd! Don't be a voice calling in the wilderness! That's frustrating and depressing! Of course, it could also be rephrased as follows:

You're going to call a Senator and tell her to vote for an amendment to a House bill? Or you're going to tell a Senator to vote for a House bill because of an amendment that hasn't been added to it yet, without telling her to ensure it gets added first, and ensure the Senate version includes it too? Even though House members are obviously easier to persuade, because you're clearly a larger percentage if his or her constituency than a senator of an overpopulated state? Do you even know who your Rep is? Good, dannno. *pats head* Your value as an activist is on par with your ability to spot--or even define--propaganda.

Typical nonsense we've come to expect from such partisan outlets. h/t Eric Peters Viva Uber! About four months from now, Americans will go through the sickly, depressing ritual of celebrating the liberties they no longer enjoy. This includes, among an almost infinite number of things now malum prohibitum (that is, illegal, a violation of some law or statute, but entailing no harm done) being free to hire someone to give them a ride at a price mutually agreeable and otherwise acceptable to both parties. The government – that is, the busybodies-with-guns who are the government – consider this sort of peaceful, voluntary transaction between consenting adults, neither of them complaining, to be intolerable because it is not done according to the rules laid down by these busybodies-with-guns. Hence, expensive, inefficient – but very legal – taxi service.

Yo. Arrogant moron. He said a diesel generator providing juice to electric axle motors holds up better than a clutch and multi-ratio gearset. Or would you care to link us to the clutch--or even the torque converter--that can handle the output of a 4400 horsepower engine? And your idea of refuting that was to use the term "genset". Quick quiz, Einstein: What is the "gen" in "genset" short for? If you think it's something other than "generator", do amuse us and tell us what you think it's abbreviated from. We're all agog to hear. Or you could shut up and leave people wondering if you're an asshole, rather than removing all doubt.

Representatives Amash (R-MI) and Lofgren (D-CA) have proposed an amendment to one of the mini-omnibus bills to curb NSA domestic data reaping under 702. I can't find the specific bill, but it may be HR 2740. Anyone still interested in activism might keep and eye out for it, and might just call their representative and let them know they're being watched. I now turn this thread over to the shylls to tell us we'd rather be spied on by the NSA than lift one finger to back a California Democrat or a non-Trumpsucking Republican.

It varies by industry. As a rule, there are fees and licensing and taxes to be paid for everything you can imagine and then some. But I have taken small business administration and learned to write/pitch business plans, so I know a little about it. I agree that the average Joe Murican alone will have difficulties with a new startup. They tell you the first day of business class that most new small businesses fail. (3 out of 5, IIRC)

The ones that fight in bloody revolutions do, but they usually get killed off pretty quick. The "intellectuals", not so much.

Was going to say just this^^ Mixed economy =/= socialism. It's a clusterfuck, but not socialist yet. You folks get back to me when the socialists seize the means of production.

Got a bite toady. :D One of the places I applied to wrote back to myself and all the other applicants that made the cut. Just asked a few things like "can you work full time?" "Can you work evenings up until 6:00?" "What is the hourly rate you must make in order to consider this job?", etc. I feel pretty good about this 'un.

She probably wouldn't do anything extraordinary. They normally take our freedoms in little increments. And most of Murica won't suffer the consequences, so we'll just have to suck it up. Such is the life of an Enemy Of The State.

The point of "I, Pencil" applies to any (seemingly) simple manufactured durable good you have and rely on daily. It could be a pocket knife, a screwdriver, whatever.
