Sadly, "need" has nothing to do with it. Lawmakers gonna make laws. That is their raison d'Ítre. Once the (relatively very few) laws that are actually needed have been "made", things can only go downhill from there ... You can't have both liberty and a legislature. They simply do not mix.

I was going to say exactly the same thing. Abolish "victimless" crimes. Apply restitution and other remedies rather than incarceration wherever possible. Otherwise, "attempts to shuffle defendants through the legal system as efficiently as possible" is just a bunch of worthless happy-talk, whether you use "automated tools" or not. Meh. As far as this issue is concerned, I don't really care whether corporations are "people". Nor do I care whether money is "speech". It simply doesn't matter. The fundamental problem with the so-called "reform" of campaign finance is that it treats a symptom while the disease causing the symptom rages on unchecked. As long as the US government and its officials (elected or otherwise) continue to arrogate to themselves such vastly overweening authority over society in general and the economy in particular, cronyism and influence peddling will continue unabated. The only question is, "What are the forms in which this inevitable cronyism and influence peddling will manifest?" At best, campaign finance reform can do nothing except change (some of) those forms. It does not and will not eliminate them. (IOW: Campaign finance reform is little more than an exercise in rearranging deck chairs ...) Pass whatever "reforms" you like. It doesn't matter. You'll just end up advocating for yet more "reforms" after it becomes apparent that the previous ones didn't work and electoral cronyism and influence peddling are still just as rampant as they were before.

Human nature isnt affected by who's president. I believe this is why congress was to be the predominant branch of government. Because human nature craves tyranny - people are easily manipulated, regardless of whether its a "D" or an "R". So, in other words, "New boss is just the same as the old boss"... Same arc, same pendulum., same economic policy, same domestic policy, same foreign policy, same welfare nonsense - the only thing that changes is who is spewing the rhetoric. Hulk Hogan, or Macho Man - they're both the same when you get down to it. The game of politics is no different - people love to pretend, and this is why voters will take a politicians word on issues. Many are waiting for "Crooked Hillary" to be indicted - any day now, right? Or wait, its everyone else working against trump, and it wont happen. There's no chance that trump was talking out his a$$, cause that's not what the republicans do - only democrats talk out of their a$$.

And furthermore, with respect to my characterization of my comment in post #56 as being a "throwaway bit of snark", there's the fact that something being a "throwaway bit of snark" is not incompatible with that thing expressing something that is believed or believable. As I understand and use the term, "snark" is just wisecracking that is often ironic or sarcastic in nature. This does not in any way require that the substance underlying the form of the expression cannot be credible. And as for it being "throwaway", that was just a reference to the fact that my comment was a brief "one-liner" that had been made in passing without much if any elaboration.

*sigh* There is no single "it" here. You are conflating two distinct statements - one of which was made by you, not me ... In response to your criticism of me for "fixing" AF's statement, I characterized the statement I made in post #56 as a "throwaway bit of snark". The statement I said in post #60 that I believed is NOT the one I made in post #56. It is the one YOU composed and asked me about (prior to you presumptuously telling me that I didn't "really" believe it). If that is what you actually think (and unlike you, I will not presume to tell you that it is not), then you are simply wrong. I believe that the "trigger issue" in this story involves much more than just politics. You are free to disagree - but once again, please do not lecture me about what you presume to declare I "really" believe about the matter, despite that I have explicitly said otherwise. I have politely asked this of you twice now. I will not be polite if there is a third time.

You're only a dumb dumb if you dont learn from your mistakes. I had a car with a points type distributor. I got a rebuild kit and was trying to remove the rotor and shaft, but apparently it had a bend to it preventing the easy removal. So I continuously pulled as hard as I could, as fast as I could till it jammed, Then I'd push it down as hard as I could - repeating this cycle... At least until I got my finger underneath the points cam on the way down - I nearly severed the end of my middle finger off, and across the garage went the distributor chased by a string of angry obscenities. My then girlfriend, now wife, quickly left the garage, not even saying a single word... Lessons: 1. Never let a situation get the better of you, to the extent that you are not aware of where your fingers are. 2. Sometimes its worth a few bucks to just buy a new distributor, saving frustration and injury.

Good news, i think. with rick S out of the race, potus just took a stance on same-sex
marriage that could split the electoral college 269 v 269 if mitt now copies him totally.
this is assuming tampa is not even a tempest in a teapot. doug wead had a FB chat.

It is better to live in a corner of the roof Than in a house shared with a contentious woman." Proverbs 25:24.

Yup yup, Man has to be strong in what he believes in and stand up for his beliefs. If a man starts to compromise his beliefs for a woman. He is likely to lose both the woman (eventually) and his beliefs.

Ever try doing supersets? I tried it today, and it was interesting for variety. I'm going to do kempo X again tomorrow. I am like it! Is it okay to repeat a workout disc from the P90x like that-or is effectiveness lost? (that is, doing the same routine twice within 1 or 2 days of each other)
