Robert Gerard Sands (Irish: Roibeárd Gearóid Ó Seachnasaigh; 9 March 1954 – 5 May 1981) was a member (and leader in the Maze prison) of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) who died on hunger strike while imprisoned at HM Prison Maze in Northern Ireland. Sands helped to plan the 1976 Balmoral Furniture Company bombing in Dunmurry, which was followed by a gun battle with the Royal Ulster Constabulary. Sands was arrested while trying to escape and sentenced to 14 years for firearms possession. He was the leader of the 1981 hunger strike in which Irish republican prisoners protested against the removal of Special Category Status. During Sands' strike, he was elected to the British Parliament as an Anti H-Block candidate. His death and those of nine other hunger strikers was followed by a new surge of IRA recruitment and activity. International media coverage brought attention to the hunger strikers, and the republican movement in general, attracting both praise and criticism. ... Oppose Federal ESA Bills — Instead, Get the Feds Completely Out of Education Alert Summary Congress is considering H.R. 571, H.R. 563, S. 105, and H.R. 609, which would further entangle the federal government — unconstitutionally — in education and potentially threaten educational freedom by shackling parents and religious schools to government funding and the various strings attached. House Democrats Attack Messengers in “Politicization of Government” Hearing Ron Paul - March 13, 2023 I often joke that I survived Washington because I had low expectations, but last week’s hearing of the House Weaponization of the Federal Government subcommittee would have tested the lowest of my low expectations. The purpose of the subcommittee is to look into the politicization of US government agencies and its effect on our civil liberties. But last week’s inaugural hearing of the committee was not at all a good look for the Democrats, who brought nothing but insults for the witnesses. Things got off on the wrong foot very quickly, as Democrat committee Members seemed less interested in what witnesses Matt Taibbi and Michael Shellenberger had to say than in attacking the messengers. Ranking Committee Member Stacey E. Plaskett, a Democrat from the Virgin Islands, began by calling Taibbi a “so-called journalist” who poses a “direct threat” to people who disagree with the work he has done on the “Twitter Files.” Taibbi, who to the likely dismay of the Democrats on the subcommittee is hardly a right-wing Republican, corrected Plaskett’s smear, pointing out to her that, “I’m not a so-called journalist. I’ve won the National Magazine Award, the I.F. Stone Award for Independent Journalism, and I’ve written 10 books including four New York Times bestsellers.” In addition, Taibbi pointed out that most of his journalism career was spent at Rolling Stone Magazine, which is hardly a conservative political outlet. The Democrat decision to make this hearing a partisan political issue and attack the journalists who brought us the truth about secret US government censorship-by-proxy of Americans who hold views unacceptable to government elites is extremely unfortunate. The Democrat decision to attack honest liberals like Taibbi for bringing us the truth is baffling. Taibbi and Shellenberger and the other journalists involved in exposing government malfeasance in the Twitter Files have done a great service to all Americans concerned about the collusion between government and corporations to silence speech that the government does not like.

Condemning Foreign Interventions The New American Feb 27, 2023 In Search of Monsters to Destroy: The Folly of American Empire and the Paths to Peace, by Christopher Coyne, Oakland: Independent Institute, 2022, 141 pages, hardcover. On Independence Day in 1821, Secretary of State John Quincy Adams addressed Congress on the issue of whether the United States should get involved in the internal affairs of foreign nations, or in far-flung international conflicts. He disagreed with those who advocated using direct means — such as military force — to export the American experiment in liberty that was then a marvel of the world.

Scientist Exposes Covid Deception The New American Feb. 13, 2023 Lies My Gov’t Told Me and the Better Future Coming, by Robert W. Malone, MD, DS, New York: Skyhorse Publishing, 2022, 645 pages, hardcover. The global response to the Covid pandemic will be remembered as a tragic failure — or, more likely, crime — of planetary proportions. Dr. Robert Malone’s new book, Lies My Gov’t Told Me and the Better Future Coming, serves as a timely account of the past three years of disastrous Covid policies, but it goes much further by placing the events in the context of the much-larger picture of nefarious ideologies and practices of governments and their “healthcare” apparatus and transnational organizations.

The Federal Reserve’s Magic Trick: Big Tech Ron Paul March 6, 2023 Now you see it … maybe soon you won’t. Over the last year, the seeming ability of stock values of many technology companies to keep rising forever met resistance. This was true even for the major technology companies known collectively as “big tech.” During the last 12 months, Meta (parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram), Amazon, and Alphabet (parent company of Google and YouTube) suffered layoffs and big declines in stock prices.

v28vyim Dr. John Littell: Forced Out of Hospital After Endorsing Ivermectin The New American March 3, 2023 On February 23, a board-certified family physician Dr. John Littell testified before the Sarasota County Public Hospital Board about his successful practice of using ivermectin for treating Covid-19. The doctor saw the event as a unique opportunity to share his observations and be the voice of those who were trapped in hospitals and were denied early treatments during the Delta wave. Little did the doctor know that he would end up being escorted by three police officers out of the meeting shortly after delivering his speech.

The Antiwar Movement Roars Back to Life By Ron Paul - February 27, 2023 On February 19th, the National Mall in Washington, DC saw its largest antiwar rally in 20 years. The speakers list included four former US presidential candidates and a broad and diverse collection of antiwar activists from beyond the left and right. The aptly-named “Rage Against War Machine” rally drew thousands of attendees, however many pro-war advocates eagerly pointed out that it did not match in size some of the larger rallies against the Iraq war 20 years ago. To that I say, “who cares”? The US mainstream media engages in war propaganda non-stop, with the only exception being Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. So I think it’s a miracle anyone had the courage to travel to the heart of the war machine in Washington, DC to make their voices heard! We don’t need a majority to fight back — an educated and dedicated minority will do quite nicely. And we certainly had that at the rally! As I sat in the green room waiting to speak, I had the opportunity to visit with former Democrat presidential candidates Tulsi Gabbard and Dennis Kucinich and former Green Party candidate Jill Stein. Political commentators Jimmy Dore and Chris Hedges were there, along with many leading and well-spoken libertarians. Everyone backstage carried the same message: we must put aside our differences to build a new, broad coalition against this war!
