It depends on just what you mean by "can win". If you mean "can win" merely in the sense of "is it possible", then I suppose it is. But if you mean "can win" in the sense of "is it any more likely under ranked-vote schemes than under the current single-vote system", then I am skeptical. The problem occurs if people "backstop" their first choice with the Republican (just as you suggested would happen). This eliminates any "spoiler" effect and insulates the Republicans against reaction, leading them to skew more liberal. But even worse, it also makes Republicans more likely to defeat Libertarians or Conservatives even if the Republican is not able to achieve a first-rank plurality (just as the Democrat defeated the Republican in Maine even though the Democrat failed to win the first-rank plurality). There are only two ways around this under a ranked-vote system: (1) win an absolute majority (with at least 50% + 1 of first-rank votes), or (2) win without "backstopping" votes with the lesser evil (else the backstop is apt to win even without a first-rank plurality). But (1) will be even harder to do under a ranked-vote system than it already is under a single-vote system. And (2) will also be more difficult, since under a single-vote system (where the only votes are "first rank" votes), winning a first-rank plurality is strictly sufficient to win the election, which is not the case under a ranked-vote system (as the OP article clearly illustrates).

Japaj has a weird hybrid insurance / personal pay system. I talking to a guy who lived there when the transition happened, and he said that when people paid out of pocket, the price for a certain procedure was, say, $100. When the insurance system started, the deal was that the insurance would pay, say 80%, while the consumer paid 20%. Of course, the prices immediately rose so the out of pocket to the consumer ends up being the same $100 they originally paid, but now there's a payment to the insurer along with longer wait times. Such a deal.

booyah. "The US will now go after a so-called “Troika of Tyranny”: Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua" National Security Adviser John Bolton just gave a modern-day “Axis of Evil” speech, this one focused on three countries in Latin America. In a 30-minute address at Miami Dade College’s Freedom Tower, Bolton said the Trump administration will take a hard line against Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua by sanctioning the countries and cutting off diplomatic relations with them until they meet US demands. “This Troika of Tyranny, this triangle of terror stretching from Havana to Caracas to Managua, is the cause of immense human suffering, the impetus of enormous regional instability, and the genesis of a sordid cradle of communism in the Western Hemisphere,” Bolton said. “Under President Trump, the United States is taking direct action against all three regimes to defend the rule of law, liberty, and basic human decency in our region.”

Man who sexually assaulted woman on flight while she slept is jailed for nine years A man who sexually assaulted a woman on a plane while she slept in the seat next to him has been jailed in the US. Prabhu Ramamoorthy, 34, was also sitting next to his wife on the overnight flight in January. The Indian man, who moved to the US in 2015, has now been sentenced to nine years in prison. During his trial, the 23-year-old woman said she woke up during the journey and “saw his hands inside” her. Ramamoorthy had molested the victim while unbuttoning her blouse and unzipping her trousers as she slept

Who were the Governors before the Governors were Republicans? Let's see, is Minnesota being mentioned in the mix? No? Then that must mean: IT WAS DEMOCRATS. And was the legislature likewise switched from Dem to Rep when the governorship did? Yes, in most cases that's exactly what happens. And so WAS THERE A LAME DUCK SESSION AT THAT TIME?

Let me break it down. Interpret the graphical doohicks and unlock the mysteries of the symbology. See the little dots? There's two slightly different kinds, circles and triangles, but the Swedish woman who invented this intentionally made them both tiny so they are visually almost identical. Notice how they are scattered throughout the Great Pyramid but smoothly become less and less dense towards the Mighty Base? This is the fundamental basis for the whole theory. She's telling you right there, it's just she elegantly jam-packed too much information into one graphic perhaps for the typical person to catch it all. I didn't know that (it seemed obvious to me), but you missed it, so clearly the vast majority of people will. Fats and sugars are both bad. This is the theory. So you try to focus on scarfing foods with as little of them as possible, meaning, first and foremost, their massive carb group down at the bottom. The theory is bizarre and baseless and always was, and in a rational world, that fact would have been sufficient. I could have said to the nutrExpert back in 1995: "Yo, bro, this theory is bizarre and baseless." He'd be like, "Wat? Back up." I'd lay it down: "There's no reason to believe this. You tell me what data or studies make you believe this and I'll put the smack down on them one by one. But first and foremost, it makes no rational sense because humans have been eating meat and vegetables all along; why would we not just eat meats and vegetables?" Any being capable of reflection would then be like, "Yeah, that's true. What problem is this even fixing?" And then if he was gonna be debatative (which is cool) he might say, "OK, let's go into it then. The problem it's fixing is heart attacks and the such. That one guy in the '50s fed tons of eggs to rabbits and they all got cardiovascular problems and junk. Whatchoo say 'bout that?"

Oh, I have no doubt that the appeals court will issue a stay, and then we'll have to wait to see what SCOTUS does. But it looks like he was saying that the original SCOTUS decision was that the law wasn't permissible under the Interstate Commerce Clause, but it was permissible under the Congressional Tax Power. Since the tax is gone, the law is no longer Constitutional because it violates the ICC. We'll see. I've no faith left in the power of the Constitution to restrain government.

That's what I think too. I believe prices would tend to go down when instead of trying to please the insurance companies, physicians would try to please their clientele.

Libertarianism and "plumbline" conservatism are mutually exclusive. Conservatism has long been opposed to classical liberalism-the precursor to "plumbline" libertarianism.

  7. Oh--by the way, look for it other places than Amazon, you might find it cheaper if you actually intend to buy either one.

Right there is where you find it! It seriously has saved me a lot of money and will pay itself off within a year. I use the washer, then spin "dry," and hang up to finish the drying. It's working great for where we're at right now, my bathroom has turned into the laundry room--much better than spending $$$ on laundromat nastiness. We also have a balcony where I can dry/grow herbs and some tomatoes. I'm making the best of what I've got.

* Enforce Border Security – America should be guarding her own borders and enforcing her own laws instead of policing the world and implementing UN mandates.

* No Amnesty - The Obama Administration’s endorsement of so-called “Comprehensive Immigration Reform,” granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, will only encourage more law-breaking.

* Abolish the Welfare State – Taxpayers cannot continue to pay the high costs to sustain this powerful incentive for illegal immigration. As Milton Friedman famously said, you can’t have open borders and a welfare state.

* End Birthright Citizenship – As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be granted U.S. citizenship, we’ll never be able to control our immigration problem.

She did not graduate from high school, and considers herself a researcher because she watches YouTube videos and reads conspiracy things. She posts these things because she apparently has a deep seated need to feel smarter than the rest of the world...painting herself as some wise sage in a world gone mad. In fact, she is delisional and dangerous.

that hosting a picture in a thread isn't this hard for everybody. But linking straight to it was a disaster in that it was HUGE - filled up the whole page on the laptop. I downloaded it and then tried to insert it from my desktop, but no luck.

So here it is: a picture of a humidifier (maybe) with absolutely no relevant text to go with it. If it's relevant text you want, go here.

Beware the seller giving advice
