I believe what he's asking is relevant in the way groups of people tend to decide what they want scripture to say, rather than what it really says.
As an example, I read a huge book written by a fellow who claimed, Christians have a new and different Passover and that the "Last Supper" was really a Passover meal. Of course we know the Passover was the night Jesus was in the tomb. He went to great lengths to prove that Jesus wasn't the Lamb Of God. He probably never thought about Jesus being the Lamb of the Passover.
Groups of people get together and decide what they think some scripture means and that's why we have so many denominations of Christians.
