By Brian4Liberty - March 26, 2020 (RPF) - Who remembers TARP 2008 and the related bailouts and stimulus? You might not remember, but the government remembers. Politicians remember. And they learned from that experience. The outrage was nearly universal. The common people of the left and the right were vocally opposed. The phone lines at Congress were flooded. A new movement was started called Occupy Wall Street, which in the beginning included people from across the political spectrum, opposed to crony corporatism, Oligarchy and Plutocracy. “Too big to fail” and “socialism for the rich, rugged capitalism for the masses” were popular war cries. Fast forward to 2020. It’s time again for bailouts. But this time, there is a bipartisan twist. Democrat and Republican leaders alike support payments to every American. Some find this strange. Many people don't want or need it. Not everyone is one check away from the streets. Why is the establishment pushing this, and in such a bipartisan manner? McConnell and Pelosi agree, this is the most important and urgent action they can take. The answer is simple. They learned from the past. Call it stimulus. Call it relief to people who have lost income. Call it redistribution of wealth. Call it a step towards Universal Basic Income. Call it the benevolence of McConnell, Schumer, Pelosi, Trump and Mnuchin.

You changed the goalposts. First it was medical care would somehow stop, now it’s about people paying rent. People will get medical care. This bill will have no affect one way or another. People will not get evicted right now. This bill will have no affect on that.

Exactly. History will judge. Passing it without a recorded vote in hindsight will be viewed as panicked, foolish and deceptive. Like creating the Federal Reserve. And who has read this bill? Are we supposed to find out what’s in it after they pass it? That’s classic Nancy Pelosi style legislating.

All of the shelter in place orders came long after community spread had started. The horse was already out of the barn. And despite hot air from officials, they were never screening people at airports. And they refused to test for a long time. Even today they are still “rationing” tests.

It won’t delay any real medical care. This is a financial bill to bail out banks, airlines and other crony corporatists.

The establishment in Congress plays games all day long, every day. Yet when one Congressperson chooses to follow long established rules, the snowflakes break out in hysteria. History will judge them.

US cases: 85,798. US deaths: 1,295. Current death rate based upon those stats: 1.5% https://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019–20_coronavirus_pandemic_by_country_and_territory And the US skyrockets past Italy and China to become the country with the most confirmed cases in the world. With all of the additional testing, the death rate stubbornly stays about the same, even increasing. Not sure what to make out of that. Perhaps we are still only testing critically ill patients.

This eventuality occurred to me already, and it would be a much better situation for an independent Congressperson to spearhead this effort. No partisanship. Anyway, go Massie! Lets face it, the establishment, the socialists, and the communists hate libertarians and fiscal conservatives more than anything. Many of the other partisan “battles” are Kabuki Theater. That hate will always be there. This stand will not change that one way or another.

Price fixing... The Fed purchasing commercial paper and debt instruments to provide “liquidity” are really engaging in price fixing. There is a lack of buyers at full face value, thus the Fed purchases at full face value, preventing prices from falling. It is a method of price fixing, in addition to be a moral hazard.

Exactly. Bonds trade like a stock. There are always asks and bids. Just as you would know what a stock is currently trading at, you can find out what a bond is trading at. Everything evens out when a bond is traded. The buyer may have to throw in some extra money to the seller that has not yet been paid, to make up for differences in yield. How much longer the bond has to maturity, and the payment schedule are all taken into account. Example: you buy a $10k bond at auction, and it pays 5%. After a while, rates go down to 4%. If you sell, the buyer will chip in extra cash, which pays you off for your better rate, and lowers the interest the seller gets (net) down to 4%. The value of your bond went up, because interest rates went down.

Which part of Rand’s position are you against? Unemployment Insurance is a State level insurance program, with your premiums paid out of your paycheck. If it is properly managed, there should be no additional costs. Only if a State can not pay out it’s obligations should the Federal government help out, preferably with a loan. If the Federal government demands that States pay out more than usual, then it is on the Federal government to chip in. And Rand would want to make cuts to make up for any new costs.

This Land Is Our Land

by Brian4Liberty on 10-02-2017 at 01:27 PM
Some people have questioned the connection between the recent NFL player protests and communism. They have referred to comments about cultural Marxism as nothing more than a "modern right-populist bogeyman", thus inferring there is no connection at all.

To reach this conclusion, one would have to view the NFL protest in a vacuum, intentionally ignoring statements and positions that have been taken by some individuals involved in these NFL protests, and further, to ignore

Hillary Clinton claims that Libya is now a successful Democracy
By Brian F. Liberty - April 15th, 2016

(RPF) - During last night's Democrat Debate, Hillary Clinton blamed Libya on President Obama, yet at the same time bragged that Libya has had free and fair elections since the overthrow of Muammar Qaddafi. Apparently Clinton was responsible for that so-called "success".

It does leave out any concerns for the current condition of Libya, but apparently

The Establishment Compromise: Cruz/Ryan 2016
By Brian F. Liberty - March 23, 2016

(RPF) - This is a prediction, but the writing is on the wall for all to see. The establishment has gone all in on defeating Donald Trump, and that means putting their weight behind Ted Cruz. The endorsements are coming fast and furious. Jeb Bush and Lindsey Graham have buried the hatchet along with their pride and have backed Cruz. Endorsements are likely to come any day now from Marco Rubio and

Like clockwork, we have the inevitable discussion of supposed causes, of hasty and dogmatic solutions, and the inevitable flood of special interests and charlatans who will seize the
