Eh, the problem is that it sometimes *does* actually affect more than just 'the locals'.
Remember when Texas sued Georgia over the 2020 election shenanigans?
The action (or rather, inaction) of Georgia absolutely did affect Texas, because for the past 3 years Texans have now had a president who they wouldn't (shouldn't) have had, otherwise. (to be fair, it didn't just hinge on Georgia, but other swing states, which Texas also sued)
The SCOTUS, rather bizarrely, decided that Texas did not have standing to bring the lawsuit (as if they don't share the same presidency, I guess?).
I was, as a native Georgia boy, rooting for Texas in that lawsuit (as were several GA state lawmakers). I guess we don't have standing either.
