That's their usual strategy to evade any discussion and debate on the controversial items in a bill. It's sinister, and it's pathetic.

Americans could probably figure out how to build computers. Might even get them off of welfare. But, that's not part of the plan. And then they were deemed "clunkers."

I guess if I felt that it was a natural occurrence, I wouldn't be opposed to it. But the rug is being pulled out from under folks. On one side, you have people saying, just apply for welfare. On the other, you have people basically saying, just 'learn to code.' Not everyone is cut out to be an aeronautical engineer. There seems to be this unwritten rule that people just naturally move up into high-tech jobs when the bossman calls them into the break room and tells them the plant is shutting down. And that's just not what happens in the vast majority of cases. If you want to try to reach these people, or at least get them to hear you out, the tone has to be something other than Marie Antionette's 'let them eat cake.' (which, if I'm being honest, is how most 'free market economists' come across)

Economic theory is a hard sell when there are more practical issues that people are faced with. To a blue collar worker, there's nothing more tangible than the factory you've worked at for most of your adult life, packing up operations and moving overseas or simply shuttering in the face of what appears to be, by design, a purposeful effort to make it nearly impossible to operate in the USA while simultaneously welcoming (out-right encouraging) the influx of cheap goods produced overseas in near-slavery conditions. (which has an added benefit of masking the declining value of the US Dollar, so . . . there's the motive, at least as far as the government's concerned). We throw out the word "protectionist" far too liberally. These people are not fat cats with monocles, top-hats, and ridiculous sideburns, rolling tobacco in $100 bills and smoking it up. They're people who actually want to work. They know what they're good at (these dirty, inferior jobs like machining, welding, etc). It's no easy thing to just forget everything you've ever done and pick up an entirely new line of work. To add to it, there's far more people in those situations than there are opportunities to alleviate their conditions. And I swear, it's by design.

Kemp? Georgia's Kemp. That would be rather surprising. Kemp basically played hear-no-evil-see-no-evil during the 2020 steal. Trump kinda pissed Kemp off as well when he basically mocked the governor for being among the first to reopen during COVID.

Are we even in the same pool though? I mean, if you want to talk about Chinese impact on me, I'm more affected by real estate speculation than the automotive industry. Not really concerned about the plight of Big Chinese Auto not being able to sell their cars in the USA, but if you wanna die on that hill, go right ahead.

I had no plans to buy any Chinese knock-off EVs so this will have little to no impact on me. Just being brutally honest.

This is a cold hard truth. It would take an overwhelming number of people in Congress to A) Agree on a plan to significantly reduce the debt and B) Stay in office long enough, with said majority, to see it through to fruition. (or C) One angry Argentinian boi We cannot even get people to agree that basic freedom of speech is a natural right. Arguing over how to spend money happens in any household, but some things are supposed to be fundamental.

They probably thought they didn't need details. They wanted to try this case in the media and thought it would be open-and-shut. I guess it opened up a little too much for Fani's sake.

Article IV section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government The question is: Is it a republican form of government if a county stuffs ballot boxes and flips an election in the dead of night, thus altering the outcome of an election race for the rest of the nation? What if next time, they stuff a few hundred thousand into the ballot boxes? "Oh well", I guess? (the fact that they must obviously think they can't cheat that much is probably why they were trying to remove Trump from the ballot) . It's hard to simply just whisk it off as "it's their right to run their elections how they see fit." That's a remarkably polite and generous way to say that they should be allowed to cheat. Maybe we could come up with some sort of 3/5 rule like they had for the counting of slaves, only instead of using it for the census, we could use it to have weighted-votes. If you vote for anyone other than a democrat, your vote counts as 3/5ths of a vote. That way, no one has to cheat. It'll just be codified into law that some people's votes are worth less than others, in this "republic." Is it to be decided by a handful of corrupt urban areas? That doesn't sound very republican. Sounds more like a kleptocracy than a republic. (even that's not the right word for it)

I didn't just join the forums yesterday, I know well the risks of beseeching the Fed.gov to do anything. (BTW, weren't you just saying a few weeks ago, that people don't really care that Millei is pretty much running his government from the top-down, because he's doing the right thing? Don't get me wrong, I agree, but therein is the point. As long as the outcome is the same, no one really cares how it's done.) (Actually, in Millei's case, it probably wouldn't be the same, if he were trying to approach things from the bottom-up; Without his executive orders, it would take so damned long, his term would be over before any cuts could be made)

Eh, the problem is that it sometimes *does* actually affect more than just 'the locals'. Remember when Texas sued Georgia over the 2020 election shenanigans? The action (or rather, inaction) of Georgia absolutely did affect Texas, because for the past 3 years Texans have now had a president who they wouldn't (shouldn't) have had, otherwise. (to be fair, it didn't just hinge on Georgia, but other swing states, which Texas also sued) The SCOTUS, rather bizarrely, decided that Texas did not have standing to bring the lawsuit (as if they don't share the same presidency, I guess?). I was, as a native Georgia boy, rooting for Texas in that lawsuit (as were several GA state lawmakers). I guess we don't have standing either.

To me, it's kind of like local restrictions on the 2nd Amendment. There's not much point to having RKBA in the Constitution, if the right is ultimately eradicated by governments at lower (higher?) levels than the federal level. The Feds can always throw their hands up and say, "well, it isn't *us* stripping you of your right. So, no foul." Or like they do when they pressure social media companies to carry out their censorship by proxy. It ultimately makes no difference. Sure, it's a "private" media company doing this. Yet, the outcome is the same. So, whether it would be Joe Biden personally ridding himself of his competition, or some pissant election board supervisor, it's just a different path to achieve the same results.

So technically, whether it's the Texas GOP trying to remove libertarians from the ballot or the Democratic party trying to remove RFK,jr, it shouldn't stand, right?

Yeah but I'm thinking a lot of people don't bother to down-vote if they assume it doesn't matter and no one will see it. CNN/MSNBC/ABC used to get pummeled with downvotes on just about anything they posted. In fact, I think that's one of the main reasons Youtube removed the counter.

I wonder what this will mean (if anything) for future candidates. Assuming the ruling is applied equally (har har), future attempts to remove candidates (or keep them off ballots) could be struck down using this precedent.

They proved that when they decided she would be the fallback plan, over DeSantis. A lot of Trump voters would support DeSantis in the general if it had come down to it. (Maybe not Swordsmyth). But they had to go with the worst, least inspiring candidate to play runner-up.
