Indeed, no real republican will be safe from women coming out of the woodwork claiming they were raped/fondled 200 years ago but just didn't feel like reporting it to anyone until it was politically convenient.

That still pales in comparison to the likelihood of black people being victims of violent crime at the hands of a "person of color." A poignant question would be: Can "people of color" be friends with "people of color"? But you will never hear them ask that, because people would quickly realize that it's not really the white man keeping the black man down anymore.

I was just thinking this morning about how radically different forms of protest are on the left and the right. When conservatives protest they grab lawn chairs and go to the park and listen to public speakers (tea party protests looked more like a nursing home field trip). When liberals protest they set trash cans on fire and block traffic and scream.

I just threw out an example to say that you can live comfortably in the countryside for the same cost of living in the city. I've lived on both sides of the city limits sign. Got out and never looked back. I suppose when you are used to it, the thought of going without the conveniences the city has to offer is a bit frightening. But it all comes at a cost, and the cost only gets higher as the city raises taxes and grows which attracts more liberals who vote to raise taxes and grow the city which attracts more liberals who vote to raise taxes and grow the city which attracts more . . well, you get the point. They can keep their level 1 trauma center. I may die in the back of an ambulance on the way from Backwaterville but at least I'll die having experienced a bit of freedom in my life.

On the bright side, when you do sell that 960 sq. foot home, you'll be able to afford a nice 2,000 sq. foot home on 10 acres of land without fire, police, sewer systems, or medical care (and therefore liberals won't be interested in moving in next door to you, meaning you will have relatively lower taxes for the foreseeable future).

Well, really the constitution only applies between people and the government, not people and other people (perhaps with a few exceptions such as slavery, you might run into problems if you tried to enslave your neighbor, lol). It's why a restaurant can tell you not to bring guns inside, and all you can really do in retaliation is stop doing business with them or abide by their rules. I had a good friend though, who lived in one of those cookie-cutter stick-built subdivisions where the houses are exactly alike and built so close together you can barely fit a fence between the lots. Some crazy bitch living down the street was trying to rally the neighborhood into forming an HOA and he was strongly opposed to it. I'd be curious to know what your rights are in that situation, if you were there long before the covenant came into play. Eventually he got tired of fighting it, said the lady was relentless (didn't like kids apparently, if you wanted a tree house you should go to the park or something). He moved out.

Virginia's problem is its proximity to D.C. Kind of like NH and Mass. It's a great place to live, vote, and within driving distance of all those bureaucratic jobs just over the Potomac. Many conservatives look to Virginia as helplessly as the guy in the movies whose buddy falls into the water and gets eaten by piranhas. They're turning blue all right, but I doubt it's an ideological shift as much as it has to do with migration. Then there's this, which I thought was pretty substantial: https://news.virginia.edu/content/uva-study-one-nine-virginians-foreign-born

There's a deterrence factor as well (which I understand some people don't believe in either). In any case, if you can beat the snot out of a senator and only have to pay $5k and spend a year in jail, they might as well be operating it like a dunking booth. Unless they increase the charges, this whole thing is a joke. Come one come all. Got a ticket? Fantastic! Step right up. Keep throwing 'til you hit the bulls-eye.

The real problem is when people start spending money they don't have. Everyone's gotta have that new I-phone 30, complete with all the features of I-phone 29 but frivolous new feature added! Unfortunately they can't scrounge up $50 to go see a doc when they get sick every now and then. No no, those costs are someone else's problem. As a society we have forgotten the difference between NEEDS and WANTS. It's critical. If you cannot tell what your needs are then you become incapable of caring for yourself.

It doesn't really work when you are all clumped together, unfortunately. In 1861 the differences in ideology were neatly drawn along regional borders, perhaps with the exception of the Mason-Dixon areas. This guy was his friggin neighbor, and I think we both know what neighbors are good for. What is more likely to happen is a "Bleeding Kansas" situation where people are just beating each other in the streets. Hell, it's already starting to look like that, even in the well-to-do communities of doctors. Bring it on, I say. We're just delaying the inevitable.

Bail is probably the most backwards, screwed up thing in our judicial system. They do need to up the charges on this, possibly even to aggravated assault. It takes a lot of force to displace a rib (fracturing is fairly easy but the bone usually stays relatively in-line).

Spot-on analysis. The perception was that Trump was the outsider. He established that from the start. Whether or not that was or is actually the case is irrelevant, because in the eyes of the voters, by process of elimination, anyone who attacked him from that point on was considered establishment. Rand would have done better to hold his fire a bit longer in the race until the field became narrowed so that he might actually have debated Trump on policy (the current state of debates is pretty lousy, though, 'Candidate X, what is your favorite color? Now to candidate B, what is your response to candidate X's reply?'). Even so, watching these candidates line up to attack Trump was watching a fight in a low budget ninja film. I had to close my eyes at times. Politics is more about perception than principles or policy.

I recall noting a pattern during the debates where anyone who attacked Trump had the tables turned on them and it wrecked their campaign. When it came to Rand's turn to speak, I was like, 'okay, all these others attacked Trump right out of the gates, and he's just getting stronger, so don't do it, Rand. Play it smar—- - - No! Rand. No!!!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!!'

Kind of sounds like it fizzled out. In any case, it sounds like Catalonia got a good deal. Catalonia remains part of Spain in exchange for both sides getting to vote over and over until they get the results they want. That's how you do it in a true democracy, you just keep voting until you win, and then you vote some more because the other side wants to win also. If you are Spain, it also helps to have police with batons enter polling places to ensure no one makes any errors when they vote.

I hear that one of the stated reasons for secession is that Catalonians are tired of seeing their wealth redistributed throughout the rest of Spain, and yet the prevailing sentiment in Spain is that this is a leftist separatist movement. But, wouldn't the Spaniards be the leftists if they're taking Catalan wealth and spreading it to other regions? I just find it hard to believe that a bunch of communists created the wealthiest region in Spain, lol.
