You believe that the Bible is 99% worthless poo? Not only is that extremely sad, but it doesn't make sense to me coming from a Christian. Don't get me wrong… I believe that God is revealed in a number of ways, not only through scripture. But what is your foundation for Christianity, if you "mostly agree" with osan's rejection of the Bible? No we don't. That directly contradicts a number of scriptures, including: “But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true–it is not a lie..” 1 John 2:27

Apparently some racist groups believe that certain races are inferior because they're the "cursed offspring of Cain." To give one example, the so-called "Christian identity" group. From Wikipedia: Christian Identity ("CI") is not an organized religion, instead it is adhered to by individuals, churches and some prison gangs with a white supremacist theology that promotes a racial interpretation of Christianity. Christian Identity beliefs were primarily developed and promoted by two authors who considered Europeans to be the chosen people and Jews to be the cursed offspring of Cain, the "serpent hybrid" (or Serpent seed (a belief known as the two-seedline doctrine). An early Christian Identity teacher, Wesley A. Swift, formulated the doctrine that non-Caucasian peoples have no souls and therefore can never earn God's favor or be saved. The theology was promoted by George Lincoln Rockwell, the founder of the American Nazi Party. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Identity I also want to make it clear that I know that not everyone who holds this view is racist or anti-semitic.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to pcosmar again. This doctrine not only directly and clearly contradicts Genesis, but it requires a lot of adding to the scriptures what is not there. If I'm not mistaken, Hitler believed in this view, or something similar to it. I'm not saying that as an argument (that would be a logical fallacy) but just to say that it has been used to justify racist or other unbiblical ideas.

Read it in context. The word translated as evil also refers to disaster, calamity, affliction. It is about judgment. Throughout the Old Testament it is clear that God rewards Israel for obedience and punishes Israel for disobedience. Just as good things come from God, 'bad' does at times too, but it is about judgment (or other purposes), not the creation of moral evil in the first place. "I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things.’" Obviously God doesn't create calamity for no reason... that would be a ridiculous thought. So as always, scripture has to be understood in context and in light of the Bible overall, not cherry picked.

That's pretty much been my position from the start. I hope I'm wrong, but that seems to be the way it works these days. Presidents are more like actors or spokespersons for the PTSB. If they run as a Republican, they pretend to be conservative… But for the most part it's just an act. When I saw how they shut out Ron Paul, I gave up hope on anyone genuine and good actually making it to the presidency.

Many of us agree with you that the serpent seed theory is false. I certainly do. But that is different than the idea that the "sons of God" written about in Genesis 6:4 were fallen angelic beings who mated with human women, creating the Nephilim. There are many very compelling reasons to believe that is true, and it was the predominant view for the first 4 or 5 centuries, until the Sethite view came about. To answer your question, the Bible is clear that angels have, at times, taken physical form. Once again, just because we can't completely wrap our minds around an idea doesn't make that idea false. It's the same with the free will so-called paradox – just because you can't understand it doesn't mean it is false, it just means that your finite mind cannot comprehend it, at this time.

Exactly. And this may be a controversial thing to say, but I believe that sort of hard-core Calvinism is more than a mere misinterpretation of Scripture. It's satanic. Who else but the enemy of God (the devil himself) would want to portray the God in such a horrendous way? A diabolical monster Puppeteer, who causes billions of people to do horrible things, then sends them to a fiery hell for doing precisely what he made them do. A twisted, anti-freedom, tyrannical God who is so insecure that he must micromanage everything and disallow free will. Does that sound like God or another spiritual entity we all know about? I think many of us here know the answer to that question. Amen. The ironic thing is that SF has accused a few people here of being misled by a cult, but his belief system has almost all the characteristics of a cult. It certainly warps minds, because hard-core Calvinists throw logic, common sense and their conscience out the window to instead believe horribly twisted ideas, based on cherry-picked scripture.

I'm not distressed, it's not about me. It’s that unbelievers or people who are on the fence are continually being misled by this religion section. There's a lot more to be said about that, but the last thing I feel like doing right now is getting into an argument with you. Thank you for sharing your testimony. And thank you for speaking out on these threads. You're absolutely right that God is not a capricious, monster control freak puppetmaster, as Calvinists portray him. The funny thing is, they sound exactly like Christian hating hard-core atheists. Exactly.

I'm thinking NC was right and that we should throw out the whole religion section. It likely does more harm than it does good. And things never change around here.

I have been to Africa a couple of times. . . it is a big and varied place. . . there are several places where the punishment for murder is the same as for robbery. . . so no witnesses is usually the result. . .panga style. . . pretty gruesome way to go. But many beautiful places and peoples as well, would like to go back again one day

I hate to say this, but the whole thing seems a bit contrived to me. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up hearing that the parents are Christians or anything else that the PTSB want to demonize.

^ This is exactly what I was going to say. There are a number of things that we (humans) simply can't wrap our finite little minds around. Unfortunately, you have people who are too prideful to realize or admit that, so they come up with ridiculous/wrong ideas in order to try to explain something that none of us were meant to fully comprehend in the first place. Calvinism is a perfect example of that. I'm not going to get into this again though, I'm surprised that anyone is still taking the bait, after the first 50 trillion times. :)

I don't think I've seen those shows. :) But I have seen the indoctrination that cops can be above the law and not always by the book, because the ends justify the means.

Yeah, I was just going to say that I bet TV has a lot to do with it. I never watch TV (don't even own one) but I've been visiting my mom in Northern California and the TV is always on here. There are so many cop shows these days, one after the other. And of course the cops are portrayed as good guys, who have an exciting, manly job. If this survey is true it's no wonder that "police" has gone up on the list of "dream jobs" for boys.

You're not claiming it is entirely genetic, are you? Because diet absolutely plays a part in cholesterol levels. I don't know about Trump, but someone who is predisposed to it should actually watch their diet even more than the average person. If they don't want to have a heart attack, that is. But to each his own. *Shrug*
