Biden is very myopic.
The pardon may protect him and his boy from prosecution. Note "may". This blanket immunity thing sits in uncharted legal waters. Being the sort that I am, were I the AG and I had the evidence, I would arrest and charge them both and let the chips fall where they might. Biden is perhaps gambling that nobody would have the nerve to do so. Fine. He remains at risk of being exposed to the world.
There is a rather large loose end flapping in the wind: Zelensky and his merry band of Ukrainian bandits, at least some of whom know the truth. It may prove that Biden doesn't give a cow about his "legacy", though I can't quite imagine it being so when we look back at his fifty years of grift and his huge braggart's mouth. Regardless, I'm confident that he'd probably very much prefer the truth not come to light, especially about his whelp. All Trump need do is tell Zelensky that if he doesn't spill everything in gory detail, he will give Putin a free hand with all of Ukraine and that the EU will have no hand in aiding him. I doubt that Zelensky would offer the least resistance, especially given that he has no presidential pardon in his back pocket.
Given this threat that stands, what would Biden do between now and 1/20, have Zelensky offed? Nothing would surprise me, but this could be a step too far even for Joe.
At least insofar as being exposed to the world as fir the vile that he is, Biden is far from being covered.
