Property is a critical part, but you're right that Murray failed in "Ethics". Actual justice seeks to make the victim whole as best as possible. Going beyond that isn't "justice".

No it's not. Ask our friend AF. The point of the "justice" system is to fill the jails and extort money. An actual "justice" system would have nothing to do with preventing or deterring crime. It would be entirely about providing justice to victims of crimes.

Natch. Indeed, I would say that it is wrong for a Christian to go the State for welfare. He should be able to look to his Church community for needs he can't take care of with family help. The Gospels and epistles both say that we're to take care of each other-not to get on medicare/medicaid/etc.

"Welfare" being that offered from fellow Christians in the sense our Lord commanded? I don't mind that too much. That's more charity than welfare, though. State welfare though, ideally not. However, I don't *always* judge people who get stuck on it because the regime's Welfare State so overwhelms everything else now. :(

This thread reminds me of my godmother. She pays cash and negotiates prices with doctors and so on. Hasn't carried insurance for years. God bless her. <3

Loved that program. :( R.I.P. One of the reasons I'm a grammar nerd, and part time translator/teacher/tutor toady. h/t angela for giving me the story via FB Go ahead, Generation X and Millennials, pour one out for Bob Dorough. The musician and composer, 94, died Monday of natural causes at his home in Mount Bethel, Pa., his son told the Associated Press. You may not know Dorough's name but if you were parked in front of your TV on Saturday mornings growing up in the 1970s or '80s (or your teachers did), you can probably still recite the lyrics he wrote for Schoolhouse Rock. And the lessons he imparted may have helped you pass a grammar or math test along the way. He wrote all of the music and lyrics for the Multiplication Rock math series and two of the best-known Grammar Rock numbers, Conjunction Junction and Lolly, Lolly Lolly, Get Your Adverbs Here. Dorough also wrote the song Devil May Care, which jazz great Miles Davis recorded as an instrumental version. Dorough was born in Arkansas and raised in Texas. After arranging music and playing multiple instruments for army bands during World War II, he studied composition and piano at the University of North Texas, graduating in 1949.

SMFH. If they were to be consistent, they would also have to ban Torah (at least the Pentateuch), and IIRC Talmud and Koran. #Thoughtcrimes

"Seem" being the key word. They may well offer the value to the company they get paid for all you know. What people earn in the private sector is none of your damn business.

This^^ People buy from Amazon for the brand and convenience. Plenty of times I've bought from ebay, etc because the item in question was cheaper.

There's this thing called the Division of Labor, bro. Amazon isn't going to magically suck people up into jobs they don't want just to destroy the community. *dramatic Michael Moore-esque scene here* Amazon jobs are low-skill and even in small communities would only draw people who are interested in such work anyway. And since value is subjective, we know plenty of people value working locally over working for national brands.

My poor heart bleeds. Amazon is not a welfare operation. It is a for-profit business. They compensate employees for their labor. If Amazon employees want more money they can do what everyone else does in this situation-get a second job. My sister works for Amazon at a warehouse. She has more than enough time for a second job-she's just too lazy to go find one. Watching TV is more her thing. :p

I thought that was withheld from employees' checks as a tax everywhere... But I've only employed myself so far. Hopefully in the not too distant future I'll have a chance to employ people. :o:toady:

That's interesting. Calling this "Universal Basic Income" seems like kind of a misnomer. Everyone on the webbernets who's described such a thing in my experience has explained to me that it wouldn't have a work requirement in practice.

Yes, things have been going well for me. I just needed to take a sabbatical of sorts from the forum to regather my thoughts and refresh my mind into other things. It's good to be back, nonetheless.
