Oh it's worse than that. In 2019 US Treasury forced the multi country FATF rules that exchanges share client information on any transaction. Full customer data when exchanges sent to other exchanges. There is a push now (End of 2020) to send all info to authorities for any transfer of fiat, or crypto, over $250 that crosses a US border (Which would be every transaction, I'm sure the feds would do it like they do telecom by forcing things to bounce over a border even if it's not the shortest path so they can tap every call and force a transaction to cross the US border)
bitcoin may have started as semi anonymous but it sure isn't nowadays.
